View Full Version : How can I put on weight?

placidfemme
7th September 2005, 07:25
Well, Over the last few weeks I've dropped off a few more kg's.

And I was wondering if anyone had any tips to putting on weight. Like what foods are fatty but not totally unhealthy.

The most I've ever weighed is 48kg's and now I'm down to a pityful 41kg's which is the lowest I've been in about 6 years...

I'm much like my father in the sense that we're both skinny critters, and I've always had a problem putting on weight and then keeping it on...

Any tips or suggestions?

How tall are you?

Do you stress easily?

Do you smoke?

There are a lot of factors to it, potentially; if this is something you've been having difficulty with for a while, it might be worth getting proper medical advice. It sounds as if you are one of Nature's natural skinnies (low appetite) but you may want to rule out the possibility that (for example) you are not getting all the nutrients from what food you do eat. (Eg, if someone had IBS and tried to eat heaps of bread to put on weight, they'd probably get quite sick!)
It might be worth trying to up your intake of proteins, perhaps having a bag of nuts for browsing throughout the day, and adding natural yoghurt into your meals.

Obviously you want to avoid unneccesary expense, but a good iridologist can be excellent at giving you an overall picture of what is happening with your health; hereditary factors and/or other potential factors. They usually give sound nutritional advice based upon their findings, and upon your own specific needs. I'm not being a yoghurt-weaving hippy, here- I had a very real medical condition discovered by an iridologist a few years back.

Anyway, good luck!

ok... being a big fat Yank.. i can say that i think i have a handle on this...

Donuts and beer

seriously though.. tons of Carbo (Breads, Pasta, Potatoes, etc) back that up with a good dose of Protien from red meat.

i used to play Gridiron and wrestle.. during the football season.. i would pack on the carbo and avoid it during the wrestling season.. went from 270 pounds in one part of the year to 240 in the other ( not fat either.. i was in the gym 3 days a week and running 5 miles a day)

for those of you who are metric-centric...
( 270 pounds = 123 kg.. 240 = 108 kg [what i weigh now]) 5 miles = 8 km

If I were you I would be talking to my GP in the first instance. They will probably do some blood tests to make sure there isn't a medical cause for your weight loss. If it is your diet that's at fault then I would recommend seeing a dietitian to work out the most appropriate foods for you to eat to gain weight and be healthy. It might also be worthwhile having allergy tests. I used to have a bit of trouble with my weight (I was a bit heftier then) - had allergy tests done and discovered that I have an allergy to wheat. When I cut down my bread intake the weight fell off me.

If all that fails then become a supermodel!!

Okay, it does sound like you need to put on a bit of weight! I'd consider taking some calcium and zinc and stuff- you don't want your bones getting weak, which can happen if your body starts 'stripping' them for nutrients it's missing. Osteoporosis when you are old is no fun at all.

Iridology (http://iridologynow.sandycarter.com/) is a technique where the practitioner takes an extreme close up photo of your eye, noting the texture of the iris, patterns and mapping it. There may be breaks or holes which could indicate weaknesses, for example. It is considered contraversial by some conventional doctors, but the one I saw was a fully qualified Russian doctor, where they use it as part of their diagnostic kit. As I say, in my experience, it is highly effective- and I got a diagnosis for something that conventional medicine had been unable to find at all.

Um. Costs- I don't actually know what they would be in New Zealand. Have a look in the Yellow Pages..? (http://yellowpages.co.nz/Pages/SearchResults/0,2284,a1229_b1954_c0_i0_v1,00.html?fpQuery=iridol ogist&fpLocation=north%20island)

Stay away from high fats - it's not the kind of weight you're after.
Start hoeing into chicken / muesli - the high protein / fibre.

Another thing is that a 10min sprint round the block 2 or 3 times a week will more than likely trigger your body to go 'holy fuck i'm hungry now...'

Agree that you need to see a GP. You need to eliminate the possibility of some sort of medical reason for your weight loss.

With all due respect to those above that say 'eat more' it may not be that simple. It's a strange thing in this world of Weight Watchers etc, but some of us have to battle just to maintain a healthy weight.

Do you eat a lot of fatty food? Like fried stuff etc? When I used to eat that sort of thing I LOST huge amounts of weight- my body couldn't digest it and I was expending more energy trying to process it than what I was getting out of it. Strange but true. When I switched to healthy food and joined a gym I put on 8kg of muscle in 8 weeks and was accused of taking steroids! The weight gain leveled off after that, as I had merely achieved a 'normal' weight.

*Gets a bit icky now* It's also possible that you have lost the lining in your bowel. This means you can't digest your food properly. Symptoms are smelly farts and lots of them (undigested nutrients fermenting) and dioreah (sp?) or constipation. It can be caused by an allergy to a food , such as wheat, or a type of protien or enzyme, such as the lactose in milk etc. Just because you have always eaten a type of food without problems is no guarantee that it's OK to eat it now. I used to drink litres of milk a day- I used to keep a house cow 'in milk'. When I left home even 2 pigs couldn't keep up and the house cow went dry! Now I can't drink the stuff, and eating a food with even a small amount of milk products in it is risky. There are tests that can be done to test for things like crones and wheat allergies etc, but for lactose the only method I'm aware of is 'elimination'. You cut out all dairy products for a couple of months, monitor how you go, and then reintroduce them.

If you suspect that you may have lost your bowel lining, then get thee to thy chemist and buy some Reuteri (Roy-too-rie). These are capsules that contain millions of the good bacteria that you need to absorb nutrients. It's the same sort of stuff that is found in acidif... acedof... that fancy yoghurt. But it's much more effective as most of the good stuff in the yoghurt is killed off by the acids in your stomach, whereas the capsules are designed to dissolve after the stomach. Plus IF you are lactose intolerant you can't eat yoghurt in the first place (god I miss it- and cheese!!! :oi-grr:)

Hope that helps.

Donuts and beer... I like donuts... but no offense to NZ, I havn't found a "real" donut in the 5 years I've been here :( As for beer... Sam will like that... I've heard that one beer a day is healthy for you... plus the stuff in beer (is it yeast?) can help you put on weight... thats why most men have big guts lol

Yeah my gran's been hassling me to see a Dr, just for a check up. But I don't wanna go pay $50 or whatever for him to say "you need to eat more" (which is whats happened in the past). But I'll look into that option.

As for the supermodel... lol I dunno... they wear too much make up (see pic below of ugly supermodels... and no I'm not that bad lol)

Yeah my Gran and one Aunt have Osteoporosis, I should start looking after myself better

Yeah theres this lady at my work who keeps saying she is going to make me some taro and put some weight on me... does it taste yummy?

hehe thats so cool :)

mmmm chicken :) muesli sucks though... Sam eats that...

As for the run lol... I used to run cross country back home in school, and played A team hockey and volleyball.. but I'm a lazy smoker now... Sam and I tired to join soccer... lasted 3 weeks then couldn't be bothered... but we play hackey often... does that count?

She might need a bit of outside help with that one, I suspect.

In all seriousness, though, PF, see a doc and get basic bloods done to make sure everything's ticking over OK.

Then stop smoking. I can't give diet and training advice in good conscience without saying this. Getting off the cancer sticks will do wonders to help you gain (good) weight, too. Your call, of course.

Then go see a nutritionist and a personal trainer, and get a proper eating plan and lifting programme at the gym going. The difficulty with asking on KB for specific advice is that, well, none of us are qualified to give it.

Your basic problem appears to be that you're just not taking care of your health.

Do the above, and in 12 months time you won't know yourself.

I know I should quit smoking... I stopped last year for over 3 months... and seriously EVERYONE was telling me to start smoking again because I turned into the moodiest little bitch ever... and I didn't gain any weight those 3+ months I wasn't smoking...

I refuse to join a gym... waste of money.. would rather spend that $20 a week on my bike and run around the block than pay $20 a week to be a room full of sweaty people going "my arms are bigger than your Rambo" lol

But your right I'm not looking after myself properly :(

It's difficult to gain good (ie, lean mass) weight without resistance training. Lifting. Weights. That sorta thing. And it's very difficult to get that outside of a gym without splashing out bigtime on personal equipment.

Girls-only gyms are your best bet; Mrs Random goes to Contours in Henderson and finds the environment far superior to the average co-ed gym. No strutting, gawking yobbos. Just hot chicks in crop tops. ;)

Yeah one of my ex-flatmates is a qualified personal trainer... she told me I had "long limbs" and so it would be harder to build muscle mass, and before I even think about trying to do weights and stuff that I need to put on weight otherwise my body will be eating away at the muscle I've got, to try to biuld more muscle...

I used to be a member of Les Mills in Auck Central... and thats why I'm anti gyms...

Have you looked at this thread for this Saturday?: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=16467

It's a bit more closer to home if that helps.

Racing is just as expensive as it is fun. It doesn't always have to be though, cause you can always get a bucket (small 100cc home built racer) and have just as much fun as racing in the bigger classes. If you are thinking about it, definetly give it a go!

Some people are naturally skinny and always will be, you just gotta learn to love that body. There are people who can eat and eat and eat, but still not really gain any weight. I've been told I'm small but damn girl your tiny!!!!!

Do take into account though that your bones may not be very dense which could result in the lack of body weight all up. *is fairly big boned* so thats where I make up for most of my body weight.

I think more than a few people are right though when they tell you to visit your GP asap. Mum weighed about 45-46kg at one stage, dad just about shit himself so I can only imagine how your feeling weighing in at that much.

seeing a GP, and having this looked into further would do you the world of good. You could be perfectly healthy but its best to find out if anything else could be going on.

I have heard something about people with a metabolism that is too fast, which can cause a constant decrease in weight. This can be controlled by medication? I'm not sure where I read it but someone please correct me if I'm wrong..

Borrow some body parts from someone who's trying to lose weight. Between the two of you, you should be able to achieve a happy balance.

start taking steroids,
inject shitloads of it.
good for ya.

seriously though you need 2 gms of protein per kg of boby weight just to maintain muscle mass.
the easy foods you say you eat are so rdfined that they wont do jack ass to your weight issue,
go see the doc for tests.
carbohydrates will put on weight but the carbs you dont use are converted to fat for future energy use.
protein is the building blocks for muscle eat plenty of protein rich foods and make sure your amino acids levels are all good. because if they arent you may put on weight but it will be in the form of fatty tissue not muscle which is far more dense and weighs lot more.

Go to your local chemist or supermarket... they have human worming tablets..
Follow the instructions on the packet.

Are you ummm scratching your butt alot... they tend to ummmm cum out at night when you are sleeping... so umm ask Sam if you are. Or get Sam to take a wee peek....lol you can see them.. popping their wee heads out...lol.
When some have worms they can loose a lot of weight.... or eat a lot and not gain anything as the worms are getting it all.

Wash all your bed linen etc..... and both of you take the tablets...
you can pass them on. Always wash your hands thoroughly.

Also if you have animals at home worm them as well with the animal worm stuff.

Im probably gonna get some peoples backs up here. However I will say my peice anyway. A few months ago I lost 20 kilos and weighed 45 kilos for awhile, I was no ton any diet and had actually given up smoking during the time I lost weight apparently it was stress which had done it as well as my metabolism kicking in. Everyones bodies are different though. With the help of my trainer (I do kickboxing) and sticking to a strict weight sessions and eating specific high protein foods as well as certaiin carbs etc helped me put on 10 kilo's now I seem to stay at this weight no matter what I eat.

Definately go to the doctor and make sure your health is a-ok, if not maybe you could "pretend" to go join a gym, they normally give free first sessions and if you tell a trainer at the gym that you are wanting to gain weight and if they could maybe help you plan a basic diet . . . Then you say that you'll call them back to join - but don't.

Just reading that, you've gotta wonder if it's stress. Some people get stressed, so they eat and gain weight. Some people get stressed and they basically burn up muscle and body fat. A well known Chch bodybuilder told me once that the stress of arranging his wedding had caused him to drop several kilos. He got pissed off about loosing so much muscle, which made him even more stressed....

When you talk to your GP, mention the anger thing. It's probably really important.

Ways to gain weight
1. CHOCOLATE Chocolate & more chocolate.
2. Stop smoking & eat more chocolate
honestly I always ate chocolate, no problems, but when I stopped smoking 5yrs (?) ago (& became the bitch from hell for awhile) I started to grow & sadly just kept on growing.
Try the above and the rest off your diet can be normal & well balanced but the above will get you in the end along with throwing in a few beers or bourbon / midori..... in to help accelerate the weight gain.:devil2:
One important factor I have to mention. AGE! yup get to ya mid 30's you won't even need to try it'll just happen :oi-grr:

Seriously get your tests done and if alls well just eat a well balanced diet & know you can splurge on Choc... anything you like. Nutritionlist advice is a good thing to help you do it right.
Good luck.

I find I put weight ON if I eat processed food ...... so I don't. I wouldn't recommend it for weight gain, however, because it's full of all sortsa crapola you wouldn't want in your system anyway?

Sounds too simple but, if there's no medical reason for the low weight, you could do worse than eat three or four extra slices of bread and butter a day -- slow but effective [and less harmful provided you are sensible about the type of bread you choose] .... also, a couple of spoonsful of mixed crushed nuts over your brekky cereal.

There are two really simple ways of doing it. 1) turn 35, 2) eat natural foods (not processed stuff), 3) 2000+ calories per day.

Number 2 is the hardest because just about everything here is rubbish mass produced food.

This is what you want to do: deadlifts = mass, increase your complex carbs, eat as much steak as you can.

Squats or deadlifts are good. Machine exercises are for homos and girls who are weak.

Yes, and are better. Hits your whole body, strengthens your lower back. Best to get somone to show you. Without correct form you could fuck your back.

To gain weight I normally just eat more food than normal, say 25% more of what I normally eat, but keeping it healthy all the same. Over the weeks the weight creeps up. Then I do the reverse to lose weight.

I'm currently towards the bottom of my weight loss cycle. Have dropped 10kg in the past 2-3 months. Goal nearly reached.

Your weight loss sounds quite heavy especially considering the weight you started at. I'd see a Doctor and have a full blood test done and have them check for mineral levels too.

Have you and family always been this skinny? Could be in the genes but still, you need a few more kg. Look at healthy foods, supplements and milk products. Slightly increase your intake of takeaway food.

Have you been under heaps of stress recently, no not regarding the loss of Nemo #10.

Been sick recently for an extended period or got sore teeth or upset stomach?

Stop smoking.

Relax more and be lazier.

Only way I've found to gain lots of weight is to be really lazy and drink lots of beer. 5-7kg in 4 months (I'm now 75kg). However the way to lose it for me is either eat less cereal (carbs) for breakfast (I always have a massive bowl of muesli in the morning) or go for a 5 day hike (always come out with no fat and a bulging stomach).

I had a friend at school who was your weight and went to a doctor who told her she was unhealthily thin, and put her on a weight gain programme. She put on over 20kg and kept it on, I think it was things like protein shakes and the right type of exercise.

I am very bad at putting on muscle mass, partly because I exercise a lot (normally) and partly because I have a fast metabolism (I think - JRandom could tell you the type that I am in fitness-type vocabulary). For that reason I would not go to a gym for anything other than using their weights.

I think you have the same mis-conception about gyms that I had (and perhaps still do), that they are pointless and you ought to just go for a run around the block.

However, if you dont want to lose weight, but want to put it on, they are the one place that you can do it properly, by using either free weights (dumbells) or machines to increase muscle mass. THAT is what a gym is good for IMHO, and I would never go to one to sit on a treadmill or bike for aerobic fitness.

The advantage of using free weights rather than machines is that they work all the supporting muscles as well as the one you are concentrating on e.g. on a bench press you also work your biceps, triceps etc, and thus are better for real-world usability. A machine is better for focussing on one muscle, say pecs, and getting the 'locker room pride'. There are however, fewer ways of getting it wrong on machines, so if you are doing free weights, get someone who knows what they are doing to show you the correct technique (you ought to for machines anyway, but with free weights it is more important - you can damage yourself, sometimes, badly, by doing it wrong).

If I were you I'd see a doctor, but if they tell you to eat more, go somewhere else. My recipe would be carbs, eg muesli, pasta, potato, rice, plus a good dose of protein. Eat regularly and well, and do some free weights (or machines if you arent confident in technique) in the gym.

I'm half Cook Islander and I know that when the Island boys wanna bulk up for sports, they start taking alot of Milo as it's as good as any wieght gainer.
Four to Five teaspoons per cup of milk.

Also, For mass muscle gain.
You nees to pump some weights - Low reps/heavy weight. Most importantly be sure to have a big Milo shake within 20 minutes after the workout.
That way the muscle repair will not eat away your body tissue rather the meal instead. Trust me, this works a treat.

Yep, and don't forget to rest for at least a couple of days between work-outs, or you're re-ripping the muscle fibres rather than letting them heal and bulk up properly.
She definately needs to see a doc or similar before she starts lifting heavy weights, though. Good tip about the Milo- a lot of these protein thingies are expensive and can't be any good for you. Used to flat with a guy who lived on them, and jeeeeeeeeeessuuuuuuuuussssssss- not good for the bowels, I can tell you!

Teflon
8th September 2005, 17:04
Yeah one of my ex-flatmates is a qualified personal trainer... she told me I had "long limbs" and so it would be harder to build muscle mass, and before I even think about trying to do weights and stuff that I need to put on weight otherwise my body will be eating away at the muscle I've got, to try to biuld more muscle

I think your flatmate doesn't know shit.

If your diet is right you wont lose muscle. You need protein to build and maintain muscle. A low carb diet will mean your body burns protein = loss of muscle.

Eat heaps of potatoes and steak, you'll get fuckin huge.

Hi there Placidfemme

Can't comment too much as I have been through the rough and still find it hard at times. :violin: But Crashe and them are right and you need to see a GP, gets some blood tests done and also maybe get a referral to an endocrinologist (this is a specialist that specialises in hormone balance and what is happening with all your glands). Get them to check your thyroid and also blood sugars as believe it or not you could be Type 1 Diabetic. Good carbs are the best - spuds (mashed but with a little butter and quite a bit of milk), pasta but not too rich sauce and wholemeal bread with peanut butter but also don't forget about low grade exercise too, not heavy stuff as this can ruin your new forming muscles. Cashew nuts are now a bit of a weakness for me but I can't do chocolate as it makes me want to :puke:

Take care and I hope all comes right for you.

PS. By the way the photos you posted - I couldn't believe these women were still standing and no one seemed to be worried about them, let alone not in a psych. hospital strapped to a bed with a feeding tube through their nose and drips in their arms as well!!!

As for putting on weight, i didn't read all the posts, but i was 84kg then i crashed and spent two months at home with 2 broken hands, the only physcial thing i did was trying to pull my bike apart and fix it again (hard with two busted hands) did a bit of KBing, downloaded shit loads of stunt videos and played battlefeild (again hard with bung hands), i didn't go outside for weeks.
Somehow in the midst i ended up at 101kg in that time, fuckknows how that happened but i tell ya it was more expensive than crashing the damn bike as i didn't fit any of me clothes, er let alone my leathers. A fair few pies may have accounted for some of this gain, but am unsure.

Any tips or suggestions?
This may have been mentioned, but in order to gain weight you must have a calorie surplus at the end of the day. The inverse of this, to lose weight, is to have a calorie deficiet (SP).

Don't do what my ex flat mate did to put on weight and simply increase your intake of junk food. All that will do is up your colesterol, and possibly bad fats, shortening your life span and making you feel like crap.

Also, you may be one of those people who stores fat internally, visceral fat, which basically attaches itself to internal organs in your body. This is the most dangerous type of fat. So you may be storing fat, but not visibily. Typically I recall that this isn't usually a problem for women, as most store fat on the butt/thighs. Subcutaneous fat is that which is just below the skin, what would be removed with liposuction.

It would be hyprocritical of me to say just be happy with the body you have, so here is a link to a good source of information on weight gain.

http://forums.1fast400.com/?showtopic=5695

An extract:

Carb sources:

Oatmeal(not instant)
Yams
Sweet potatoes
Brown rice
Whole grain bread/wraps
Steamed/grilled vegetables
"Healthy" Fibrous cereals ( Fiber One, granola(low sugar) Smart Start, Uncle Sams)

Fat sources:

Nuts( preferably Raw almonds, walnuts, cashews etc…)
Flax seeds/ Flax seed oil
Fish oil caps
Natural peanut butter(Don’t make it a staple fat though)
Olive Oil
Fats from animals(again not as a staple
-

To find out how many calories you should be getting...

Take your current body weight or a realistic body weight goal (Up or Down), and multiply it by your desired factor (either 12, 15, or 18). If you want to lose weight or have a slower metabolism, multiply your weight by 12. For maintaining your current weight, multiply your weight by 15. And for hardgainers or those looking to gain weight, multiply your weight or desired weight by 18. This is a starting point for figuring out your daily caloric needs. (Example: Male who is 200lbs x 15 = 3000 calories per day, Female wh is 130 lbs x 15 = 1950 calories per day). You may need to adjust your caloric need by 50 - 100 calories per day should you stagnate and not be achieving your desired goals. This formula also works as a nice starting point for a bodybuilder looking to figure out the different caloric needs over the course of a year.

Also, the time of day you eat carbs will affect weight gain. Eating carbs < 1 hour before you goto sleep will gaurantee weight gain. Your metabolism slows when you're asleep, so those carbs won't be processed in the same way if if you're awake and doing stuff, they'll just about all get stored as fat.

Also, alcohol blocks the processing of fat until it's all been removed from your system. So it's a double hitter, the high amount of sugars and the fact it stops fat being burned mean you'll have no trouble putting on weight while having a good time :drinknsin:

However be wary, as you get older your metabolism slows, making weight gain easier, and making weight loss inversely harder...

I'll leave you with that thought.

Aaron.

I dunno... at the moment I'd say it's muscle mass I'm loosing...
I'm sure I've posted on this before- can't be arsed looking tho. My findings- please note that while I am naturally thin I am not super skinny. My doctor also believes I'm not entirely human...

If I eat loads of fat I LOOSE weight. Something to do with it being too hard to digest- more energy is expended digesting than what you gain.

If I eat dairy I end up in all sorts of trouble, mind you thats just me I guess- you know how they used to 'draw and quarter' criminals? Well I've been drawn:pinch: So while this has left me insides in a bit of a tangled mess, the thing that dairy products starts off could well be happening to you. It's possible to have a mild form of lactose intolerance- what happens is the surface area of your digestive system becomes greatly reduced. So you can't absorb as much nutrients. A classic sign of this is mysterious weight loss and SMELLY farts:pinch:

Eat more protien. Kind of tricky if you can't have a traditional fried brekky cause of the fat, and when nearly all protien supplements are dairy based. Bren-chch put me on to a soy based protein supplement- Soy Protein Isolate by Metaphysics. For the last two months I've been having some with my brekky. The results have been quite amazing- it would appear that my body was crying out for usable protein. Maybe yours is too?

Eat regular meals, it balances your insulin levels, and allows the body's metabolism to function as it was meant to.

Dont wait to eat, have small regular meals, and try to get the frequency up to 3 a day minimum. Your real danger is going too far the other way, which is why I would steer clear of the fatty foods, they will just clog up ya liver, and make you feel poos.

Still excercise, its all part of the process.

Ok an update... well... still skinny, been averaging 44kg's for the last 4 or so months... really nagging my goat (no comments). I'm on Horleys Max Gain shakes, having two real meals a day, and snaking on crap for the rest of the time on top of the shakes... cut down my V consumption from like 4 bottles a day-ish to 2 tins of V. Cut down my smoking heaps... still skinny... eating chocolates more (and I hate chocolate)... still skinny...

No havn't been to the Dr... can't stand those people... but also need to take into consideration I've been under a heap of stress recently for work and personal reasons... so that may have something to do with it... dunno...

Thanks for the PM's on tips and ideas and for all the help...

PF :)

Maybe you have a really fast metabolism, sounds like you will struggle to put weight on unless you really make some significant changes to your eating habits and to what you are eating.

There are a number of suppliments on the market which help putting on weight such as creatine monohydrate which helps you retain water (it works great - I use it often) and there are also a lot of high calorie meal replacement formulas around too which are also good but can be costly.

I suggest a high carbohydrate diet for a good 8 weeks, don't try all the chocolate and pies and crap people have mentioned as you will just make yourself more and more unhealthy. Try having high carbo breakfasts with fruit and lunch again try eating loads of carbo's and protein (spuds/pasta with some type of meat) and again eat loads of carbs and red meat for dinner. In between these 3 main meals I suggest snacking on fruit and taking high calorie protein shakes with milk (or bars) and taking 5gms of creatine up to 5 times a day and drinking lots of water right throughout the day.

This should be a good place to start but you will need to stick to it strictly for about 8 weeks.

If you want info on any of the suppliments feel free to PM me.

Also I don't think the heat and sweating thing has much to do with it, I don't sweat much... the most I ever sweat is when I'm wearing my kevlar gear... and that hasn't been since before Dec...

Eat more... move less... haha Sam thinks I'm lazy enough :)

Yeah fishslayer has it with Creatine monohydrate stuff... I tried everything while at gym and still didn't gain much weight wise (10kg over 2/3rds a year or something) compared to what I should have. Creatine really helped eh, give it a go. It is usually availiable at sports shops and possibly pharmacies. Try foodtown they may have it (from memory).

I was in a situation like yours for a while.. just impossible to grow lol.

Good luck (long time no see!)

Hey PF,

Seeing you are Auckland I recommend you go and see Andrew at Endorphin Systems in Onehunga - 337 Onehunga Mall, Ph (09) 636 5999. He is the ower of the place being a sports suppliment store. He is extremely knowlegable and very helpful.

You can pick up Leppin twin packs of 300gm containers of creatine for about $35 which is bloody cheap and will last you for a while.

Or

Health 2000 - Albany

Try EAS Phosphagen Hp ELITE - has more calories in it.

Have you tried weight lifting to build up your muscle mass? That is where you really can gain weight, make sure you eat properly though. In time, if you build up enough (nothing drastic) it should increase your BMI to a healthy level. From what you mentioned about your height and current weight, I worked out your BMI to be around 15 which is fucken low.

If you are too lazy, screw healthy food, just go and live at KFC for a while, as previously mentioned.

placidfemme
13th February 2006, 06:48
yeah my BMI is 15 and should be about 20 (according to the scale thingy at our local chemist)...

I had a look at the supermarket for that creatine stuff... and they only sell it as a shake with that Musasi (sp) weight lifting product...

On Saturday night I went to an engagement party and a professional body builder was there, and I asked her about it, and she didn't advise using it, she said if anything it would cause me to loose more weight... she said it pretty much just gives you a boost, and so you would have to be doing weights, but with nothing much to work with I'd run a high risk of burning off what little fat I do have...

anywho... I'll keep trying :)

You have to be careful with creatine as the extra weight may be just water plus it is realy designed for increasing ADT levels for weight training and short twitch stuff....plus the jury is still out about longterm effects....liver etc

5gs 5 times a day is too much as you have to take creatine based on your weight.........

I would avoid High Carb diet....problem is that unused carbs turn to fat wich will increase your body at %.....protein is better as it can be stored in muscle and any excess comes out as urine....again don't over do it as it overloads the liver.
You may have just lost weight because you are stressed, it has been very hot so you wll sweat more so may just be a case of increasing water to keep hydrated.......and the loss may just be because of this....
