But I'm not a meteorologist. Not once this week has any short term forecast been correct. Is it just Auckland that suffers from this with twin coasts, are other areas fortunate enough to have better luck??
Sat at home now radar sites show clear skies. All my weather apps etc show part cloud but dry. Yet is hosing down heavily.

Fair enough. Fair weather weekend only bikers don't often need to ride everyday and get in their cages. But it's impossible to drink latte on a bike and I never have to sit in traffic.
Weather doesn't bother me, I ride everyday no matter what. Just wouldn't mind a decent heads up from forecasters.

Not hard to learn a little bit about the weather and it's localized patterns. That way you have a much better chance of figuring it out for yourself. I only listen to the long range mountain forecasts, and from that I can pretty much tell what it is likely to throw my way. And it is interesting, IMO.:2thumbsup

Get used to it, we only have two weather forecasts most of the year: fine with occasional showers or showery with occasional fine spells.

What weather forecast are you using???
I use metservice http://www.metservice.com/maps-radar/rain-forecast/rain-forecast-3-day as rough guide and also http://www.metvuw.com/forecast/forecast.php?type=rain®ion=nzni&noofdays=7
and http://earth.nullschool.net/#current/wind/surface/level/orthographic=-189.92,-37.75,1471
Really Auckland is so big it can be pissing down in one suburb and fine the next, lived there for 3 years and found it an easy place to ride/drive around the weather if you had the time...

I'd it still hard to find reliable work down there?
Ps, when I lived down there I wore my wets every day. It rained at least ten minutes 300 days my first year there. Sunny most days too but boy it changes quick.

Cyclone Lusi - A bit of wind and that was it.
This latest storm? Worst in 25yrs (apparently)? Where were all of the warnings about that?
There are two jobs that you cannot get fired from for being useless, weather forecasters and economic forecasters.
Shows what a few years at University will get ya, eh?

Who’d have thought engineering would be so fickle. Let me tell you there’s absolutely nothing more obsolete than a successful development engineer. :third:
Luckily the ratio of developments to engineers has skyrocketed in directly inverse proportion to the western world’s demand for developments and it's production of engineers. :niceone:

Hundred grand a year plus, for doing sweet fuck all. Sounds ok to me. Imagine if we paid the dole bludgers a hundred G a year for doing sweet fuck all. There would be executions in the streets.
Or maybe not, we as a society seem to accept the politicians getting huge pay packets for doing nowt, maybe we could learn to tolerate doleies getting the same.

I have a bit of seaweed by the front door.
If it's moving it's windy. If it's wet it's raining. If it's dry, the sun is out. If it's damp the weather is changing.
I don't pay it a cent.

I dunno. Little River had a forecast rock that worked in very much the same way. However, it also featured a tornado setting (it was gone). I don't think your seaweed would work in that scenario (it'd be gone in a wind rated slightly higher than "puff").
Actually, the last time (probably a few years back) I went through Little River, it was gone (the Rock, the town... ok, shops, are still there). Was there a Tornado?

Weather forcasting is part science (bloody lot of science actually) and partly an art... The closer the foecast is the more accurate it is. A four day forcast is more art than science, a one day ahead forcast is more science than art.
Observing your local weather is important. You pick up the cloud formations, wind directions and the changes and that allows you are fair chance of knowing whats going to happen over the next 12 hours.

I find it curious that yahoo and google weather apps are more accurate than met service.
When I used to pick a route to ride home by based on weather (cycling, footpath under the sea if I'm wrong etc) met service was wrong lots, close to as often as right. Google never, yahoo only wrong when it disagreed with google. So a couple of times.
But then that is looking at hour by hour breakdowns.
I'd check them the night before to plan a route. Then check for changes as I was leaving. Looking at the sky is not accurate enough when spending an hour riding across Auckland. Weather in CBD can be opposite to Waitakere.

Hmmm. All the Apollo engineers wore ties. With short sleeved shirts as well!
I seem to remember doing the same some years back to annoy a boss. Perhaps it was the shorts that had the "added effect"?

Sorry you have just typed 2...no 3 complete sentences, all of which made sense.
Too qualified I am afraid.
Now if you could expand the above into 50 or more words and try to use words that send the fear of god/terrorists/Muslims/Asians/dark people and unemployment into the common man
you may have a chance
