It's a sad state of affairs when people are considering that CHEAP. Isn't it generally accepted that the 350 was utter shite? Of course anything that says "Honda CB" is now, for some reason, worth about 3x what any sane person would pay.

I bid on it but did the math and withdrew.
It is "cheap" if you are prepared to punt on it AND it runs.
Its in pretty average cosmetic condition and the motor is a complete unknown quantity.
At the very least it is a a complete stripdown and rebuild: Even if you did it all yourself including the painting I reckon you would kiss five or six k goodbye.
great basis for a wee project but often cheap is not cheap.

The old man has one, I used to ride it 20 years ago revy for the 70's machine but kind of sewing machine like in its inspirational quantises.
Sounded ok with a 400/4 4 into 1.
The 400/4 was a different beast amazing what a difference a few mm in the bore makes...........

I remember the CB350/4 had a couple of mentions in a best/worst bike list in a magazine I've still got somewhere, they went vaguely like 'riding this bike was like wading through deep water, or one of those terrible dreams where you are trying to run away from something and making no progress whatsoever' and 'what a shitbox'

The first bike I ever rode on. A school mate gave me a pillion on it after school one day. I was terrified! Still hate being a pillion and haven't done it for about 35 years.

that ones's a bit of a hybrid - paint is 400/4 colour, no idea what the pipe is but the big difference between 350 and 400 is the 4 pipes on the 350....
amusingly, because every man and his dog wants a mint - and stock - 400/4, there's quite a bit of hot up stuff appearing on ebay and going cheap as there's no demand...
The one on the bench at the moment is going to be quick - and not too expensive either.

According to Wiki ... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_CB350F ( yes I know they're not totally accurate) tell us production was between '72 and '74. The early models were (and still are) collectable ... and as with most motorcycle models ... the later models (of ANY bike) were seldom were collectable.
The CB350 twins were faster ...

Slightly off topic, mate had a CBX250, single with the four valve head, remember at the time it seemed such an impressive beast of a bike lol

And the CB360 would have to rate as one of the most 'Vanilla' bikes of all time, the CB350/4 wouldn't be far behind.
Collectable ? .... not in my book
Let's not talk about the CB200 with the pad on top of the green tank ...

Let's not talk about the CB200 with the pad on top of the green tank ...Making less power than the 175 to boot.
But if you know of one, a mate wants another to build a scrambler from.

Naff off mate - my first bike as a red CB200 $600 a zillion years back - nice set of cocktail shaker mufflers. Fark I was cool. Loads of fun as a first bike, learnt heaps doing oil/filter changes, adjusting valve clearance thru that wee hole, camchain adjustment, brake replacement and adjustment.
Fond memories. Couple been on TM this year for reasonable coin in tidy condition.
You need to reference them to the period not the current day.

C'mon mate they were crap when they were new, now they're just older crap. I wouldn't take one if it was free in perfect condition, take me too long to dig that big a hole in the paddock to dispose of it.

YUP I put the CB175 as one of the all time best learner bikes, quick for a 4T 175, almost unbreakable (the amount of abuse learners threw at them) and very forgiving to ride....
Now if a really nice earlier CB160 came up for sale?? THAT'S the collectable one in my book!

...and why they were built and for what market...do the knockers of certain models or brands think that their personal opinion makes one fucking iota of difference...the sales numbers of these little beauties and the twins surely is the testament to the truth...fucking hell, was every model ever rolled of a line built for going balls out or for being sporty...I dont think so...the reliability and commuter aspect of motorcycles is far more important to probably more riders than those who have, 'the need for speed'...

...Battle of the 350's at Methven, Pre '72 ... CB350 F, Kwaka 350 Triple, CB350 and an SL350...we were not going to catch the two Bonnies but no other bikes could catch us either...not a lot of engine work done on any of the 350's, my F only breathes easier and drinks a little more than a standard one...whatever floats yer boat really, innit...

No need for the hair shirt and self flagellation Neil - the cutoff date is Oct 30 1972 and the 350/4 was in production and selling prior to that...and examples produced post that date are covered by the continuation clause 25 - 1 -(c).
But yes, CAMS do duck about a bit with eligibility to even things up and make a better and safer show. And a very good thing too...

or a CB350F

that looks roool tidy to me and an easy little project.
Dyna electronic ignition for both, new battery, piss about with carb kits and whatnot, maybe some stuff from David Silver, bada boom, bada bing, away we go.

The 400/4 says 'running fine last time I rode it' yeah 20 years ago as he states above. I quite like the 400/4 and 350 twin though, but wouldn't spend a lot to own one, the 350 is the better bet

So long as they are manufactured in 1972 they are eligible, they don't have to have been sold
We had an S1, S2 and S3 at home at one stage in the mid eighties, rode them till they were fucked then threw them away, don't think we paid more than $300-500 for any of them

71-74, they don't have to have been in the country in that period to be eligible

You got those figure straight from Wiki didn't you? The S2 (along with S1, H1B and H2) was actually built in 1972. If you look at some other Wiki pages they contradict themselves......quite regularly too. (good to now know the rules as I thought bikes had to be pre January 1, 1972 for pre 72)
