View Full Version : Timing retard eliminators?

Just bought my 2nd sv650s, 2012 model only 1800 kms.
Suzuki put a yoshi pipe on it for free when i bought it, so it sounds good.
But im told the sv (and many otherbikes) have timing retard in the first
3 gears... i assume the factories have good reason for this but when the
brochure says a bike has a certain horsepower, you would expect that
horsepower in everygear...
My old sv650 pulled wheelstands easy enough but i thought with my new
one id treat it to a T.R.E..... timing retard eliminator. Sounds like
its a fairly common mod. Whos put one on their bike?
Anyone know where to buy them and who in chch is recommended
for fitting such things, possibly a power commander in the near future too...
cheers

Ebay or simply make one for around $10.Theres probably some on our Trademe but they will cost far more and take far longer to arrive than if you buy one os.Timing is affected in 4 or 5th depending on model from memory, theres 2 types get the so called "smart TRE" and your idle is uneffected.Just as cheap ie bang for buck is a 1/5th throttle insert...have fun, awesome bikes.Edit..you dont need anyone to fit it mate you simply plug it in.

jump on an sv forum. TRE's are easy to make, theres be a relevant thread on an SV forum for how to do it to your bike for a couple bucks. My gsxr was easy as to do it to. cost under $10 and took about 15 minutes.

or buy something off ebay for $75+

If you really wanna spend money you can get a GiPro +ATRE which is a gear indicator and advanced TRE in one. About $200 tho. Plug and play AFAIK

That's what I have on mine, although I'm pretty sure it wasn't that expensive.

You'd be better off getting a dyno tune and a TEKA re-map with BMC air filter and desnorkel. Those mod gave me the best gains. IMO TRE is not worth it.

We really just need a retard eliminator although that would probably drop site membership by at least 60%

How about you just kick off a survey so I can work out which side of the fence I'd end up on? :sweatdrop:sweatdrop

Fuck its not my money so why not get serious and bin the stock rims/full system and the stuff you suggested.Fwiw binning the oem rims made the most difference to any motorcycle ive ever owned.

I've got a problem with my gipro atre ( http://www.healtech-electronics.com/products/atre/ )

It has power but the gear indicator stopped working, it always shows neutral.

I think the TRE kicks in based on what it gear it thinks it's in, so I suspect the TRE is not working either.

This was working fine previously, and I've reset it but still no good.

Any ideas?

when the brochure says a bike has a certain horsepower, you would expect that horsepower in everygear. It does, use full throttle, the timing retard isn't active when you do.
