View Full Version : 7 years and I am still uneven, ACC

Who the fek is responsible for this and YES I will be kicking up a major storm about it with ACC.

I have known for a long time ( So Yes I am a moron) That my left leg is 11mm shorter than my right leg, my gp, surgeons, physio people, Acc case managers all knew, and no one reffered me to get inserts made to be semy normall ( Me haha) I had not thought about inserts, I had just focused and learned how to compensate as much as poss and was proud of that achievement. Acc even had me in gyms on running machines 12-18 months after my crash like this.

I have been refered to surgeons over the last 8 months, and all of them refused to operate as they believed they could either fix me permanently of leave me in a wheel chair for ever, FUCKIN WANKERS, all that has been needed for the last 7 years is for me to walk with a correct posture which would have eliminated all the pain I have lived with for these years and all the dam bullshit pain killer drugs I have had to live on, and not to mention the major job lost opportunities I have found myself due to the limp walk I had, the pain level and lifting restrictions on my body.

I have been back on ACC since November last year after a hard 12 months of oil rig work which blew my back out big time, massive hours worked and now we know why FFS. I was to be doing off shore mechanic work until my back blew out due to this, so man Have I lost a shit load of money, and the POOR COUNTRY has lost a fortune also due to what I see as piss poor management by ACC

If your talking about shoe raisers then Col's Cobble shop is your man. After my girls crash he does all her shoes for a 14mm difference. Good guy and cheap.:niceone:

We were told ACC are only interested for a 15mm or greater difference.

Couldn't you get Robert Taylor to make you some kind of fancy ( hidden ) Ohlins type modifications to one of your shoes?

Not sure if you are saying nobody told you it (the shoes) was an option (which doesn't seem likely) or that no one babied you though it. If no one told you and you never heard about it, that sucks, if you were expecting them to cross your t's and dot your i's for you, that was a bit silly...

My dad had that problem years ago. He went and bought his own boots to sort it out. Problem solved.

I am sure that ACC case managers are regular readers of Kiwi Biker forums, and even have a cheat sheet so they know the real names of members. Well, if they don't, I'm sure they could borrow a copy from the GCSB.

A more efficient means of whingeing could be to make direct contact with ACC, but I guess I'm a bit old-fashioned on those sort of things.

All the best surgeons in the world couldn't "fix" you!!

Going by your posts recently, the arrogance, and the "Me I Me Me Me I Me Me" attitude, I would say the above has sweet fark all to do with why you are unemployable.

You really are a muppet..

I don't have any personal issues with you Shaun, irrespective of whether or not I'm wearing my Moderator's hat.

My earlier point was that I believe that if people have issues with ACC or any other government organisation, they are best to seek resolution with that organisation, rather than making oblique attacks in other unrelated places.

If that doesn't work, you could always make an appointment with your local member of Parliament and see if they can ask some questions on your behalf.

Good luck.

Nice, but I do not actually want any metal pins in my bones though, in fact I go into hospital on sep 5th to remove all the metal and in both my legs and now have appointment on October 15 to look at inserts and balancing me so will settle on the inserts

Nonsurgical Treatment

For minor limb length discrepancy in patients with no deformity, treatment may not be necessary. Because the risks may outweigh the benefits, surgical treatment to equalize leg lengths is usually not recommended if the difference is less than 1 inch. For these small differences, the physician may recommend a shoe lift. A lift fitted to the shoe can often improve walking and running, as well as relieve any back pain that may be caused by the limb length discrepancy. Shoe lifts are inexpensive and can be removed if they are not effective.

ACC pay for two shoes per year to be raised. If I want the other 22 shoes :o done I pay for them myself. Rob is correct, the coble Balmoral is only about $30 or so for my 12mm raise. For compensation for leg length discrepancy it has to be 15mm or more.

You need to get your doctor to request to ACC that you need shoes raised, if the leg discrepancy is from the accident they have to fund two a year.

Inserts may not give you the same stride. A raised sole on the other shoe is like walking with two same leg length legs.

Cheers for the info Sharry. I got given an insert to try the other day by someone from a hospital wow what a totally amazing difference.

It is such a shame that acc is run like the welfare system though ie if you do not ask you do not get.

I also believe I am owed 236 weeks of CORRECT income from them also and my lawyer will awnser that after the 6th of this month when back from his holiday

The only trouble with inserts is that they can make the shoe tighter due to the insert taking up room. Plus you can get summer sandles raied that cannot take inserts.

It makes such a difference walking with equel leg lengths :niceone:

Yeah, so that is why Shaun is unbalanced..

I suspect that a large portion of the population have legs of unequal length, either due to the legs or hips. When I had my hip replaced, the surgeon stated that 1/2 an inch variation was perfectly acceptable and the body would naturally compensate (ie: hips accommodate the variation).

Shaun's pain may more be related to the chip on his shoulder than any leg length variation?

As for going back and racing again? not sure if he would gain anything from that. Would he achieve anymore than what he has already done?

Shaun, you have raced at the Isle of Man and won, far more than most of us could ever achieve. perhaps looking for other goals can give another sense of accomplishment.

Thanks awa355 but it a job I just want to finish off, I do not care if I come last. There is always 2 sides to every story and there is the other half of this one to come out with the Documentary on the TT races, filming of which started last Friday at the Taranaki base hospital and also more in depth stuff in the book as yet. Yea do not worry, some one will be gramhar and spell checking it haha

It is so funny reading comments on here by the experts who Know me so well and know the whole story about my back issue and nerve damage etc that like to throw abuse my way to make them selves feel so superior and strong by being NAMELESS keyboard hero;s hahaha Fukin ha @ ya's. This site has given me hours and hours and days and days of entertainment from dicks like the dude below this post of mine with his great but totally wank post about me and my physical situation.

How the fuck is that an achievment?
over 30% of the population have LLD up to 20mm? It's so fucking common and not considered a problem at all, and you'rs is only 11?
I work - mines 32mm out, I've had a partial knee rebuild and still play tennis, gym, squash (not well though)

I have been back on ACC ......... now we know why FFS.

You hurt your back - shit happens
half the population who have done hard labour jobs have the same issue - I doubt it has anything to do with your leg length .....????
