View Full Version : The little Ninja is no more. GPZ250R Vs COW

Well. Interesting morning this morning. I was off on my way to work which is a 14km bike ride on the open road. Took the little Ninja out and was happily cruising at 100km/hr until I saw a cow in the middle of the road. Well I didn't actually see it until my headlight was on the other side of it. T-boned it and was busting my arse not to drop the damn bike. The bike disintergrated under me as I tried all I could to not go for a slide down the road.

I have extensive bruising on both my legs and sprained both thumbs but generally ok. Even got the day off work too..

The thing that pisses me off the most is I really liked my little Ninja. It was in great condition and now it is a pile of metal.

Police are still looking into the accident but I am very keen for some farmer who can't keep his cows on the green stuff to be either buying me a new bike or buying my piece of junk off me for $3000.

Died at the scene. Better her than me. Another thing that pisses me off is I actually have 6 weeks left till I get my full licence and am *legally* allowed to ride the GSX. I was trying to be a good boy and stay on the 250 till I get my full licence. Have to get to work somehow now. Actually, now I also need to look into hiring a 250 to do my licence on.

Well I really didn't want to hear that!

I am not letting this go by the way. If the cop isnt going to do anything then I will be very very disappointed.

hopefully you're bike is insured.
Make a claim, then one of those angry insurance fockers will track down the farmer and rape him until he coughs.

The owner of the cow is legally bound to pay your costs if the cow was on a public road

you got insurance? let them handle it. they will buy you a new bik to the value of the old one and because it was not your fault, the no-claims bonus and deductible will not be you rproblem

cowboyz

No insurance on that bike. For 2 reasons really.

1. i am really cocky and never in a million years thought I would ever ever drop it.
2. My insurance co want $600 /year to insure the bike for $2.5k

3. I only intended to keep the bike till I got my full licence so I could do everything legal like and never even thought I would crash it.

4. I have been on bikes for 20 odd years and the thought of crashing it never seemed concievable.

5. The cost of insurance Vs risk didn't seem worth it at the time.

Did I mention I never planned on crashing it?

The gsx is getting insured though. Lesson learned.

Apart from my no insurance I think this point is totally beside the point. Not my fault. Not my cow. The farmer can payout on this one. I was farming for 16 years and always had a comprehensive public libability insurance if stock got on the road or wrecked something that wasn;t mine. It was always a concern of mine. I am not anti insurance just at the time being as I have been on bikes all my life without a licence and brought the 250 so I could do everything legally and only got 6 weeks till my full licence the cost of insurance for the bike didn't stack up. Even now I dont think it was a good idea to insure a $2500 bike for $600/year. I would still be in the red if they replaced the bike with teh insurance premiums.

Mr farmer is going to find a very angry man on his doorstep if he dodges his responsiblity to put this right.

Good to see you are ok.

Does anyhone find Coyboyz username slightly ironic (unless youve registered since incident) and that he 't-boned' the cow.

I find it ironic that I spent 16 years milking cows. 9 of that Sharemilking. June05 I sold up and moved to town cause I am sick of cows. I hate cows. Now I hate them more.

You dont need to have insurance. Find the owner of the cow an make them pay for all of it

my thoughts exactly. A couple of years ago I accidently backed into a car in a parking lot. My fault. I was actually lighting a ciggy while backing out with no throttle and my foot off the clutch. Made a minor mess of both cars. My car is insured and my insurance had to pay for both vechiles. It was my fault. I pay. This case, it was/is the farmers fault. he pays. I will wait till the police get back to me tonight and then go headhunting in the morning.

Sorry about your accident with the cow.
I trust you remembered the tag id numbers and cut pattern shape in the cow ear.
You'll then be able to find the owner very quickly.

You dont need to have insurance.

Very clever statement, also you dont need a lifejacket when taking part in water sport and its not essential to have a working parachute when jumping from a perfectly good plane.

I shall allow this slight modification and burning of my words as I could have phrased it better. But snuffles, they know what I meant, now do not nit pick! :nono:

Are you prepare to go to Claims Court? Are You able to prove that the cow is definitely from a particular farm? If not, hope that the Farmer is an honnorible person and takes responcibility for the damage to your bike, otherwise you will have to right it off as bad luck.

Sorry to hear about your accident and do think the farmer needs to pay damages, but I just don't like your chances of getting compensation (specially if his insurers want to weasle out of paying).

Out of a ACC report:

Mr Millar said stock owners need to realise they are responsible for their animals and could be liable for any damage they cause. "What we are trying to get through to people is to secure their stock. In all cases stock security and fencing is discussed with owners, pointing out potential dangers and liability," he said.

Yes. I am prepared to pay $5000 to get some a dork who is trying to weasle his way out of paying $3000 just to teach him a lesson. Hopefully it doesn't come to that. I consider myself a reasonable man and am willing to talk reasonably about how he is going to pay. There is no excuse for stock on roads. I farmed for long enough to know what stock are like. I know it is not difficult to maintain boundary fences even if stock is running a muck inside the boundaries. I just hope that the cow came from a dairy farm with money and they will write it off as a bad accident and payup rather than a lifesytle block with some poor guy with a 90% mortgage. Massive generalization here but you can't get blood out of a stone.

Time will tell.

Once I get over myself, there may be some salvageable parts on it. The motor still runs. The brakes still work and the drive chain still makes the wheel go round. However, the front is twisted to hell. The fairings are smashed to a million pieces. Radator has bits of cow in it. generally one big mess.

I put the auction back up for one day with an explnation on it because since I listed it I have been non stop on the phone answering questions about it. I have an almost (I did say almost) unhealthy attachment to the little ninja. I love that bike. This is the first scratch I put on it.

Some farmers have insurance to cover just this sort of thing.. The farmer has lost a bunch of money too, dairy cows are expensive.

sounds like the damage is all cosmetic dude. there will be heaps of GPX bits around to fix it.

Found out a few things today. The police believe the cow came from a small lifesytle block. The owner admits that he is missing a cow but is not admitting liability because in the past he has had cattle stolen from his property and the one he has missing may have been stolen and the one I hit could be someone elses. Does anyone see this as grasping at straws or is it just me?

Anyway. The council picked the animal up off the side of the road and took it somewhere to bury but because the police called them to do it they have taken photos of the animal and taken the animals eartags to put on file.

I can't see the file under Monday morning.

This is just stupid. But then there were some on hear that warned me.

I did get a little bit in the paper although they called it a calf. It didn't *feel* like a calf! Maybe it was. I didn't actually see the animal at all, well very very briefly. I was too busy lying on the ground in pain after the accident to go look at the animal so I will be interested to see the photos and report to see how calf-like this thing was. The ambo and police referred to it as a cow when I was being taken care of and that made sense.

I will be stunned if I find out it is like a 40kg calf or something.
