Mate she has to sit her FULL license on a 250cc.
So either stay with the same bike or go buy another 250cc.
Congratulations CaN2 on passing your restricted. Well done.

But you try and tell her that she has to stay on a 250 for another 18 months.

Insurance policy - Now someone can correct me here BUT......
She wont be able to insure the new bike as she doesnt have her FULL.
CaN, you could insure it under your name, BUT if she is riding it and she crashes the bike........ the insurance company won't pay out on it at all.
CaN2 is better off, staying with the bike until she passes her FULL license.
If she crashes the bike, then that is money down the drain.
Is it worth geting a $400 fine and 25 demerits points when the police stop her. Is she willing risk it?
bugjuice
9th September 2005, 18:18
you cannot insure something that is outside the conditions of your license. It's also not just the risk of a fine, or if you crash the bike, but it could be what you hit. Those Mercs are quite pricey you know..

Yeah I will put that to her.
Problem is she works in auto insurance.
(small plug)
She works for a company which specialise in insuring the uninsurables.
That, as you would expect costs, but they are often pretty competitive for the rest of us too
She doesn't think insurance will be a problem, but I will get her to look at it again.

Damn I just knew someone would ask the price.
I don't know.
Would like to invite suggestions as to price.
Let me qualify that, sensible suggestions.
I think they are $6,995.00 new
It is 12 months old in the 18th of sept 05
It has done about 8,000 km had a couple of minor drops, none at speed though and has scraped footpegs.
It has had all services as per manual, assuming the dealers did it right, so still has 12 months of warranty.
I think that is the pertinent info.

Well done Christine, you must be stoked indeed.
CaN is she looking at going to a bigger bike or a more sports orientated bike thats still a 250cc, for whats it's worth i was most impressed with her riding she was doing very well and i dont think that a slightly bigger cc bike will hinder her too much, but i think she'll be stoked even on the likes of a ZXR250 and the likes, if she wants to take my one (the ZXR that is) out for a blat to see what its like, let me know, the ZXR will have a lot more poke than the Virago and be a good introduction to sports bikes as she already got the basics down pat. A good step to take before going to bigger cc's.
Again on ya Christine for passing, now do Defensive driving course and knock some time off till ya get ya full.

Congrats on the pass. I myself have had to re-buy a 250 after just missing out on the old law a few years back, where all you had to do was pay your dosh for the full license. Sigh.
Ive been riding bigger bikes for ages on my restricted and thought I should finally take the plunge and do it legal... So I figured a trailee was more intersting on the road as a 250. Glad I went that way... what a hoot.
Hang onto the 250 I say. The national licensing lady told me there was a huge influx of people now getting their licenses as a result of the petrol prices. She said she was even looking at getting hers! Whether that good or not is debatable... But general awareness cant be bad. It should also mean that your 250 may be worth more in a few months time...
