November 15th and 16th :scooter::scooter::scooter:

A 2 day 650 km ADV ride around both sides of the Kaipara harbour.

Accomodation for both Friday and Saturday nights is at the Wellsford Inn, Hotel. Clean and cheap fully made up rooms, and we get to ride without carrying luggage on Saturday.Single Rooms from $35.00 - Twin share rooms from $25.00 per person - Double rooms from $70.00 and ensuite rooms from $90.00
Contact them on 09 423 8046

An early morning 8.00am start on Saturday as we head through some tight and twisty gravel roads on the way to Dargaville.
From there down to Pouto Point and onto the beach. A visit up to NZ`s oldest wooden light house at the top of the sand dunes ( for the adventurous ) and then carry on up the beach for 55 kms ( having a play on the way ) to Baylys beach.

Lunch and refuel in Dargaville then we wind our way up towards Whangarei and then down to Maungatoroto via some awesome gravel roads that some unlawful riders have been known to hit speeds of 140 km/h on ( not me officer ) :Police:

Back to Wellsford for a well earned beer or 3 :drinkup:
The pub does a pretty good `Pub type` meal, or there are plenty of takeaway bars and cafes within staggering distance.

Saturday Ride Distance around 400 kms

Sunday Morning, a more leisurely start at 9.00 am

Leave Wellsford and head down to Hellinsville via some more tight and twisty gravel roads and head up to the top of south head.
A knarly little sand track takes us onto Murawai beach for a 30 odd km ride down the beach into the village of Murawai itself.
Lunch at the cafe and we should be all done and dusted by 2.00 pm to allow us all time to get home before dark.
Sunday Distance 200 kms.

Suitable for both big and small Adv Bikes ( though if you want to try the optional challenge of the sand dunes up to the lighthouse you will need knobblies )

Maximum Fuel distances between Petrol stations of no more than 200 kms.

The date of the 15th & 16th of November is the only weekend date before Xmas that the tides are right for the 2 beach sections.

This ride is on the KB calender now for you to confirm your attendance.

I'm a definate maybe, need authorisation from high command and probably something other than road tyres on the fat pig unless you lot want to push 250kgs of Bavarian sludge for 50 odd kms.

Yep, keen. Incentive to make one of the beasts ready. Baverian or Japanese? Austrian or Italian? :)
Lighter the better I reckon based on previous excursions through these domains...
The tide is a long way out hopefully on these dates....

Hey Mark, how far is the gnarly sand track at South Head. And is it 2 up Beemerable ?
Not sure if Dawn will have time to get away, she usually gets really busy that time of year.

Hi Phil, there is one sand hill leading onto the beach which depending on your tyres, Dawn may have to walk up
Only about 75-100 metres long from memory.

Rest of it would be no problem for a man of your skills

Right, we seem to have 7 or 8 people interested so far, so working off the normal KB law of averages that means there should be at least 4 of us turn up on the day.

Good enough for me.:2thumbsup

I have posted the ride up on the calendar for you to confirm attendance.

I wont put in a link to the calendar though, as when i do that it always automatically registers everyone

Spoken the the Wellsford Inn and they have about 9 rooms available as of today.See the 1st post for prices and contact details.

I have stayed there twice before ( while following the WRC international rally ) and it is clean and cheap and they do reasonable pub meals.

Now all we have to hope for is some of that Famous `Winterless North` weather. :sunny::sunny::sunny:

Hi Wade, I have done a couple of 300 km single day rides over the last 2 weekends and shoulder is all good so far.:calm:

Will be doing the cape to cape ride of 1000 kms before the northland ride so the shoulder should be well up to it by then.

Hi Daniel, I will see you at the Wellsford Inn Tonight, I will be getting there about the same time.
As Crisis says I dont use a GPS / Devil box :devil2: but prefer the old school approach with maps ( my GPS lives in the boat ). There wont be too many of us so the corner man system should work fine.

Clint was nice enough to deliver Rosies bike to the top of the dunes, his parking style is unusual to say the least.

Managed a jump in the back of the dunes, nothing huge might be a 3ft drop into soft sand.
