View Full Version : Returning biker, saying hello

Hi all!! :wavey:
I've been lurking around here for a while and decided to finally register and say hello! I'm about a month back on two wheels, after almost 10 years of fear after my last accident. Needless to say, having an L plate on is fine by me if it makes other road users stay far away for a bit!
So, I've registered for the Pro Rider Bronze course - is there any other safety and handling training you folk would recommend? Professional training preferred, of course. From the sounds of it, there's a lot of monkeys that'll give me suicide instructions out there! While a Pro trainer may not necessarily give the "best" advice, at least their advice is more likely to keep the skin on my body... Right?
Anyway, look forward to chatting with you all!

When do we get the cookies?
She has my attention too.
Are they freshly baked?
Oh... and welcome to the forum.
Well done on the driving courses. You need to be decisive and confident to be safe on our roads. Good luck :)

When do we get the cookies?
Chocolate fudge chip cookies - soft on the inside, crunchy at the edge?
...
Nah, I hate baking. I just love eating cookies.
Thanks for the warm welcome folks.

Hi and welcome to the nuthouse :wavey:
Although if you've been hanging around here for a bit already, you must know by now what you're getting into, which means you're either very brave or very crazy, and will fit right in. :D
The Pro Rider people know what they are doing and I've heard good things about NASS and SASS.
It's awesome that you're getting back into riding after your accident. How do you like your little Inazuma? It was on my list when I was looking for a bike a while ago.

Well, I certainly learned a few tricks from taking a day course - pretty good confidence booster right before I booked my restricted test!
As for the little Inazuma, for me it's not so little size wise. Still gotta shift a cheek over a little to touch down comfortably but I can tiptoe balance it because it's quite nicely weighted. Much more than that... Well, we'll see once I've put more than 300k's on it!

Bit of training will help your riding progress in leaps and bounds. Not sure what course you'd need to navigate a safe course thru the weird and wonderful members on KB though.
Have fun playing on your current bike

I'm a bit weird too so I'm sure I'll Be able to navigate a course right into the middle of the weirdest members and settle myself in quite nicely!

I've done a couple ProRider/Ride Forever courses and I'd 100% recommend them. Doing the CBTA for the transition from Learner to Restricted and Restricted to Full would be good too.
And as others have said, check out NASS or SASS depending on what is closest to you.
Welcome to KB, and ride safe!

In in the middle so I'll try both NASS and SASS now that I've figured out what those acronyms mean!
I've booked in to do the test on my birthday so we'll see how that goes - maybe the testing instructor will be nicer to me?

Hi there, and welcome to the forum and back to riding!
From one returning rider to another, two thumbs up for taking baby steps to your return and not having the "I've done this before and it'll be a piece of cake" mentality. I might get gunned down for saying that but stats don't favour returning riders after a prolonged period, so putting your newbie boots back on is two steps in the right direction in my book.
As far as courses go, you're on the right track. I too will be looking into the Prorider courses after my vacation. Also, the SASS and NASS groups as nzspokes suggested. More than that all I can say is ride at the level that you're comfortable with, and don't be afraid to ask around the forum. We're all here to learn and to help wherever we can.
Anyway, stay safe out there and enjoy!

You were correct, it use to be very much like that, there a couple on here that have so much to offer, yet they perform mostly like children and are all to quick to bag members on any level and on any topic. Very rarely do you see them offering their 'motorcycle knowledge' to those who ask.

Glad to see that mentality has met with approval, along with my preference to ride a bike I'm comfortable with, not the biggest my licence will let me. I've had a little bit of a "yeah right, typical woman" attitude from a couple of dealers around, trying to up sell me to a bigger bike, but on the forums here and from having other bikers come say hello around town/in parking areas it's been very positive.
And if anyone ever does see the chick on a bright red Inazuma, hanging out in the Auckland CBD or Tauranga please come say hello instead of just staring creepily. It's really weird.

I have seen a lot of "heated debate" whenever someone raises their opinion on a technique. In my totally noobish state I'm not sure if they're just trolling, or mentally retarded..

I'd plumb for a combination of both, It appears some of the most opinionated trolls on kb only make out they have bikes.......

Insanity is fun. The voices in my head always make for great conversation.
Anyway, my dad decided to book me in for my restricted test in an area I am totally unfamiliar with, and have never even been to anymore.
So, does anyone feel like showing me around Penrose sometime this month? Lol.
