Hi first time poster but here goes...
I have started a restoration for a 1980 CR80. Its not in good nick at all so its not the best first project but its a neat wee bike so what the heck!
Anyway im not sure where to start so thought its best to see if I can actually get it going.
But...'
I need a workshop manual, any ideas where I could get one?
Its had water sitting in the crank case, will it be rooted?
I have pulled the exhaust and carby off, the piston seems to twist a bit if I stick my finger in and wiggle it, is this really bad?
I will need parts, lots of parts, where could I get 2nd hand parts for a bike this age? (I live in Lincoln, Canterbury) like plastic, possibly a carby, electrics, I could go on but lets just say lots
It has no spark, looks simple enough but still nothing obvious.
Any way thanks for looking and looks like a winter project that's for sure

Kewl. Pull the barrel and get it measured, your 'test' isn't conclusive. Parts will be hard breakers won't stock old MX gear but you could try some of the more rural ones. EBay will be expensive to ship big parts but OK for pistons etc.

No spark will likely not be the CDI despite what your mate sez. More likely the pulser or charge coil. There should be 3 or 4 wires from the sidecover stator. Borrow or better buy a $20 multimeter. Switch it to ohms and measure between the wires and tell us what you get with colours, perhaps black green brown in a 3 way rubber connector. Maybe 17 between black and green and 220 between black and brown. Except one will read open I'd bet.

But also check the black with yellow strip goes from cdi to the coil on the frame and disconnect the kill switch to start with till you get spark.

Water in cases? Yes def crank rooted. Maybe with a new rod kit could be saved but do this to see if project viable.
