Down size and drop an XR750 into it - Harley's stupid head set up means they can't breath too good, get a real intake system.

Order a Storz parts catalogue. Then you can browse it on the plane.

In order of cost effectiveness;
Exhaust/Air cleaner. A new ign module as well will give a better advance curve and raise the rpm limit.
Carb
Cams (Not cheap there's 4)
Headwork.

S&S do an 89 ci motor for the sporty, that'll make the fucker fly. Yours being the "S" already, there's probably very little you can do to it to make it go better than it does.

You've done the filter, pipes? Later model "S"s had cams and heads different as standard.

Set of fournales shocks, ohlins fork springs and race tech cartridge emulators.

On bikes like yours, good set up is not about how much power you've got coming out of corners - it's how much speed you can carry in.

Prefer a Superglide Sports IF I ever went bigger...

Bigdave's suggeston is probally the best sofar...how far would you go in modding it?

HD run fairly low CR as standard....what about a small sprintex supercharger...running low pressure.....superchargers are more suited to long stoke engines than turbo's....couple of thou should see the job sorted...maybe alittle more if you take into account you might need to pay a knowit all to re-jet your carb?

Yeah, the old Horsepower vs Cost graph might be taking a vertical climb when you get into THAT kind of 'improvement', still, I'd love to have my Sporty 'sporting' that kind of displacement - and looking stock.

Hi Qiuckest way upgrade you ignition, cam, exhaust, carb tuneing kit, then decide where you want your speed, and change your pullys /sprockets. much more than that put it in the shop and watch the dollars grow to a new high. or test ride a buell buy it and customise it that would be cheaper.

Hmm, the extra 10k to close the price gap between the two bikes would go a long way to making my Sporty go a bit quicker - and I like the little red bleeder!

This wont make the bike faster but it makes life easier in the US. Take a heap of NZ 10c pieces. Not only do they work as quarters in toll bridges, washing machines etc but they also make great gifts to people if you make up some tale about the tiki head being good luck.

Forgot to add, off to the land of septics in a wee while, going to take a copy of BRM and KiwiRider to show the Yanks (and for Waylander, the southe'n boys) what riding is like in NZ.
Hope to access a 'puter from time to time to keep up with WINJAS ravings and to let you know what I'm up to.
Plan is: land at L.A., cruise up the I-5 to Canada, drive back over to Sturgis in South Dakota then weave our way through Idaho, Kansas and other various states then a 2nd honeymoon in Las Vegas (discreet veil drawn over the preceeding there) then cruise around through Utah, Texas, New Mexico ,Arizona etc and back to L.A. and home.

Hope to return with some good bits for the Sporty and a '66 Thunderbird.

Then catch up with the Ch-ch crew at Magpie rally two weekends after we get back. :niceone:

Thanks for the wishes Malcolm, we're away for THIRTY-THREE days, yee-haa!

I guess we won't see you at the Magpie as you'll be away riding up North - or have I got my wires crossed?

Will catch ya sometime anyway (got 10-11-12-13 Dec off, may inflict ourselves on you - maybe other Otago KBers could also ride up, what do you think?).

Yes, we will be up north when you get back, but I am off for the weekend of 10 - 11 December. The evening of the 10th is also the Chatto Creek Club's Xmas dinner (at the Chatto Creek Tavern of course). I'm sure I can arrange the roster to get another day or two off as well, so you would be most welcome to join in.

Does that mean an invitation to the Chatto Creek do or is it a 'members only' event?
And what about the idea of other KBers heading up to El Rancho Jantar for that weekend? Or is it a bit of an imposition?

Visitors to the Chatto Creek Xmas do are most welcome. It might just pay to ring the tavern in advance and let the publican know how many extra to cater for.

As for KBers heading for our ranch. No problem at all. Plenty of tent space, and of course one spare room with double bed for the first to claim it.
