View Full Version : Tire gone bad?

I bought a set of Perreli sports demons for my TZR a few weeks back (maybe one month ago).

Last Sunday, my front sproket came off and most of the gearbox oil pissed on my rear tire. The whole tire was well smothered with oil. After I brought the bike home, I washed the tire with elf bike shampoo and some degreaser. The tire, when it dried off looked fine and it felt as sticky as before when I rubbed it with my hand.

I took it out yesterday around my area for the first time after that incident and the rear gave up about about 3 or 4 times quite a bit. Should I be concerned or am I just being paranoid? Did that oil really stuff up my tire for ever or did I kill my tire with the degreaser?

To support the paranoid theory, it is also possible that I was going a bit faster than I have gone before on it, so I am not really sure what to think of it.

I'd love to hear any thoughts. Thanx, MR

If the degreaser is solvent based then it is likely that it has affected the tyre compound. Graham Allardice wrote an article about this in the latest BRM.

Sorry :(

I'll have to find out what type of degreaser it was then and I'll also have read of the BRM.

Thanx for the reply Jim

Sorry :(

Those Allardice articles were bloody excellent (IMHO)...

Coupled with Lynda's piece, what more could we want in a bike mag??
