View Full Version : Kids think we're cool

How many of you have been riding around maybe in town, on the motorway or in the country and have little kids wave at you??

I feel great when the little buggers wave and smile. It's as though the chaps know how happy we are to be on two wheels; it's so similar to the kind of the big grin and wave you get when passing riders out in the country on weekends

It's as if when we are young and innocent we instinctively know what is great.

Especially in the morning it's quite nice to see a sincere smile and wave during the crazy rush hour frenzy as we get to work busy thinking about our epic problems.

haha it's so true and i usually give them a little show, ya know pop a wheelie past there soccer mum mobile or something, just so they hopefully get it engrained that 2 wheels are infact better than 4

I always give a smile and a wave to anyone who does so to me. Be they kids, adults, a bunch of very hot chicks all trying desperately to get my attention. (shame they were all just too young) Makes them feel good and certainly makes yourself feel alot better. Even if I'm having a really crap day it just takes on person to smile and wave like that and all is right again.

Had a little dude in Foodtown the other day while I was loading up with gorceries...barely in to his second year, being pulled by his Mum on a trike thingy...stared at me for about 10 seconds until it was too far for his neck to turn...Mum didn't look too happy at his total affixation with my bike...so I refrained from twisiting the throttle :D

Cute little fulla but...and a certain future biker :niceone:

I always wave at anyone who stares....had to stop at a pedestrian crossing today for a young mum with three wee nesties and they all stared at me. :gob: Gave them a wave and they all smiled and carried on, as did I, with a contented warm fuzzy feeling. The joys of motorcycling. :innocent:

Kids think my bike is soooo cool - I guess it's all the black and the cool sounding exhaust. They rave about it in modern cool lingo stuff that I haven't a hope of understanding, but their expressions make me go all warm and fuzzy towards my bike.

Usually get a bit of this on the way to work in the morning... I tend to just wave, then give it a bit of throttle and take off...

I used to really like bikes and bikers before I even got one, so if only 1 in 10 of the people we interact with get bikes, then we'll be better off for it.

It always brings a smile to my face when a kid gives you a wave. You wouldn't get a kid waving and smiling at a pimped out WRX.

Coming from a 'kid', that's pretty much the most awesome thing you could do.

However, there's this guy down the street on a completely black RGV250 who wears black leathers and a black helmet with black visor, ghost rider styles.

He's my idol.

You reckon I'd look cool with leathers and a helmet done up in Kawasaki Lime Green? :headbang:

Masterton. One thing it does well (some may say the only thing) is it has kids who get excited by bikes. I got in the habit of riding the Zrex through town in second gear for maximum effect.

I usually put on a bit of a show too for kids in the back seats of cars I catch up. But only when their folks aren't watching...

I don't think it's a good idea - little kids look at me,and their mother says....''See,if you ride a bike, you'll end up looking like that!''....poor kids, that fixes them, for life maybe....

Heh heh, guaranteed every time I pull up next to a bimbo box with kids in the back I'll see them mouth "hey muuum/dad, look at the cool bike!". Actually pretty much anywhere really...

It's so funny...our biggest fans are sub 10-year olds

Strangely, from what I've seen so far most girls 18 and upwards don't seem much interested in bikes, but a turbo charged 1989 Mazda 323 with cut springs get's their panties wet. :weird:

I gotta tell ya, these chicks don't know what they're missing. OK sure you can go real fast in a straight line in the ol 323, but you can go even faster on a bike, then when you start cornering, that's when the fun really begins.

*Shrug* I guess it's hard though to TXT on your phone all night with a helmet and gloves on whilst you're being a pillion passenger.

I had a bus load of 6-8 year old girls all trying to wave out the back window. Man they went nuts when I waved with both hands...

The warm fuzzies lasted all day:)

If only they are like that when they are 10 years older :weep:

Yes kids waving is so cool and I always wave back. Being a pillion for 9 years I get the job of majoring waving, especially the Child Cancer Run from Cambridge to Hamilton. My wavers were waved off!!!

The fact kids do love bikes is a pain in the arse when your a teacher, when I'm teaching I tend to spend half my day answering questions about my bike. It's fine at first, but once you've been asked "how fast does it go?" thirty times (and had to lie everytime ;) ) it gets kinda of annoying :)

I thaught I was your idol... rgv's are for wannabes who cant afford another 2 strokes added to the engine and another 2 cylinders to make a true real cooler engine etc.

Yeah it is pretty cool when kids wave or stare etc.. I usually wave back and sometimes give it a little twist or lanesplit ahead... just to give the best impression possible of bikers :pinch:
I find the islander kids through glen innes where I ride every day just stare... never wave. Little white kids do usually though. Dunno why.

Some of them are really neat to talk to - they have quite salty stories to tell about "a boyfriend I once had..... he rode a bike....." "dreamy expression"

and I tell you guys and gals,

We think we are so modern and so cool and so baaad,

but

you wanna hear the stories some of our Grandparents generation tell :devil2:

Maybe they tell complete strangers ...... cos it's safe ?.......... lol

one of the best things about biking i feel is not just the viewers, but the other bikers on the road. just about every time i pass a motorbiker going the other way, waves and gestures are always exchanged, yould never get that from a cage

Only glanced at you as I was looking for road names trying to find out where my turn off was. You looked really slim so didn't think you had any bike gear on your upper body. Just the vest. Also it seemed as though you had some of your gear "un packed" on the grass.

Keep up the good work :Police:

yeah, Martin (BC) is a great guy, came to the Papatoetoe Wheels Day, highlight was when one little kid asks if BC knows his brother... BC replies: "Why, should I?"

Back to waving to kids, I first fell in love with bikes being the kid in the window, except I don't think I waved, sorta scared of them, and too busy drooling and taking in everything about the bike.

Now I'm the biker, except that I have to remember that with a full breath guard and sunnies, smiling or winking does absolutely nothing. Best is when one kid in a car is staring and you give a little wave. Suddenly all the kids swarm to the windows looking at you...

very fuzzy wuzzy...
