Somebody must be.
I'm selling my bike on it and people keep making "cash offers". WTF?

Seems to be standard these days, if you advertise something for $1000 the first response is 'Give u $500 csh 2nyt bro'

As opposed (I can only assume), to payment in potatoes or other such produce, or a ps4 + 2 games + broken iphone 5

I find it much easier to just ignore these people.

I have offered to before.
My finance company was keen to reward me for forwarding them a new client and I was keen to make 10k a less onerous purchase.
No risk to me.
I don't have to pay early settlement on my finance contract.
I get paid cash monies of about half the commission an mta would get when the buyer makes their first payment.

Seemed pretty win win to me.

Circumstance changes meant I withdrew the bike from sale for another four years then offered finance again but buyer paid 6k cash.

I got a couple of silly "cash" offers when selling a car recently. I just ignored them.

For some reason there's a certain section of society that believes the folding stuff is somehow way better than a bank transfer. I can't understand the logic.

I chucked my bike up at an over inflated price, so when someone low balls me I'll say yes. They think they score a bargain and I get the price I want.

Because that section of society always has more money in their wallet ... than they do in their bank account.

To me - the phrase Cash in hand includes a bank transfer, but symbolizes that they don't need to fuck around to raise funds. If I was going to be a big ticket item on Trademe, sure I would make sure I could get the cash when needed, but most likely I would need to take a couple of days either transferring from a savings fund or arranging a loan etc.

If someone is after a quick sale (to turn assets into cash) then being offered a slightly lower price but with the guarantee of Cash that day maybe appealing. Certainly some people take the piss in their Low-Balling, but can't fault them for asking.

On a more serious note; some people's "pay cash" means simply no hassle. No bank transfer "clearance" waiting time, no "pay half now, rest next month" no bullshit, simply "pay today, ride away".

I have PayNow so they can use their credit cards but thinking of a way to surcharge for that as they steal as much as TM does....

Two things for sure, people who make dumb offers or ask stupid questions will never actually buy your item or even bid on it. I routinely block/blacklist traders soon as they ask something dumb.
I love to send out Fixed price offers about 10-20% above what the buynow or start equals reserve price was hehe....

It has definitely been my observation that people who ask the most questions in the Q&A of an auction never bid. These people shouldn't be given minimal time and attention.

Normally bank transfer or cash innit?
I got offered $6-7K as a trade in once, they advised me to put the bike on TM if I wanted more, which I did and got $9K cash for it.

"cash" refers to paper money, its quite handy for not declaring to your accountant.

as others have said it generally means they have the cash ready to give you or transfer. When was trying to sell my old car i kept getting offers to pay it off etc. First one that said they had the cash i accepted there offer for it.

I always list more then what i will accept - most people do apart from the perfect trolls on the optimistic sellers thread.....

I once saw an ad for a bike I seriously wanted, I had about $5500 to play with, could have gone higher, but didn't want to borrow money. The bike advertised for $6000ono, so I emailed the guy "Would you consider $5000? I have the cash now". His reply was along the lines of fuck off, stop wasting my time blahblah... So no I didn't buy his bike, if he replied that was too low, I would have counter offered $5500. Just because someone low balls you, doesn't mean you need to block them, tell them to fuck off or something stupid. They're just trying to save a couple hundred bucks. They've made an offer with money they have, if you are nice enough back, you could counter offer them, they could get more cash and pay what you want for it. If someone can afford $5000, they can afford $6000.

Sometimes asking a few questions allows to to determine whether youre actually keen on something. better to ask a question and deide against it, tan travel 200km to make the same call

conversely, you might have missed out on a minter just because you thought the guy was a cunt -goes both ways I guess. I try to look at the goods and the price - I dont care if the seller is a fuckwit, Im not buying their friendship!

I dont care if the seller is a fuckwit, Im not buying their friendship!Valid point, however I try to avoid interacting with fuckwits wherever possible, it just leads to pain afterwards.

An example of this was selling my son's motorbike which was functioning perfectly when it left our property, fuckwit who purchased it I can only assume managed to flood the thing trying to start it with the choke on (doesn't fucking work that way, told him when he bought it), who then proceeded to send me 30+ text messages while I was on holiday in Australia the cost of which ended up on my phone bill.

Avoid the fuckwits, much less pain later.
