So I like naked bikes & upright seating etc. Just sold my Street Triple, and looking for the next thing.

Speed Triple and CB1000R are top contenders, but will consider others. Anybody out there thinking of selling up their pride and joy?

Looking to spend 8-9k, maybe up to 10.

See if you can score one of the B Kings on TM with an offer.

Don't overlook the ZRX1200R, if you can find one. Probably the best big UJM naked ever.

Aye, the brother sold his just recently. For a reproduction of a reproduction they've got no right to be as good as they are. Lovely engine too.

Lovely engine too.

Built specially for the ZRX and never seen anywhere else and never injected. An absolute peach of an engine.

and never injected.

Yes, he bought it while still owning a GS1200A which had just cost him several thousand dollars due to failed ECU and ABS units.

Took him a good year to get over it.

He's into more of a hogget thing though.
I always had a wet jizz patch in my jeans for one of these,( i know) but you could buy a pair and still have money left for AA membership

Cheers for all of the responses. I'm attempting to narrow options down, but still bringing up new possibilities (Tuono, R1150/1200R). Unfortunately Being out in the provinces brings fewer test riding opportunities for comparisons. Went the other direction and took a ZX10R for a ride on the weekend, that just re-affirmed I don't want a sport bike.

I'm looking for big naked not giant naked! It's a possibility - although I find the B King looks quite challenging. I think Busas are prettier.

Yeah double entendre for sure - can't live without them (both double entendres and big nakeds)

Don't overlook the ZRX1200R, if you can find one. Probably the best big UJM naked ever.

I've heard of them, and I don't mind stuff that is a bit different (until you have to find parts) - although I've had the convenience of EFI for a bikes now.

Another giant naked. Tempting, though I think I still want somthing that rewards redling it - they seem to be a massive mid range machine? Also trying to keep weight realistic for around town.

1n or 1s? I looked into those a little bit, and wouldn't rule it out. Can you you send me more details on it please?

they may be BIG bikes physically but any of the XJR11/12/1300's, GS1400, zrx11/1200 or the CB1300. I bought the 'bol d'or' version 'red/white with the bikini fairing' CB13 and it really is a bloody good UJM, I have a friend with the GS1400, and the roll on power etc is very similar, the honda handles a wee bit better, the ZRX is supposed to be the 'fastest' of the four, the yammy is based on the old FJ11/1200 motor, and that was always a 'peach' of a motor...
None of them have 'blistering' top end performances by today standards {240-250kph} or will cut up tight stuff like a sprotbike or lightweight, but for everyday purely usable power, comfort, performznce they are truly excellent bikes and worth serious consideration.

Why don't you go ahead and point me in the direction of a new superduke for under $10k.

It's a good deposit, and the bike is worth it.

There's not much wrong with the 990 SD.

Although if I was going there I'd probably get an SMT...

1200 Dorsoduro keeps up just fine with better midrange punch and 10k cheaper.

I commute on a 1200 Bandit. Not as heavy as the CBs etc but up there. Stupid easy to ride in traffic. What ever gear you are in it will pull away. Only time I notice the weight is when moving it round the garage.

I've had a CB1300S for the past year - really happy with it, plenty quick enough for an old fart like me ;)

I find the cb1300 really add nimble as some much smaller bikes touch the extra width slows you down as fraction lane filtering. The extra couple of inches over say a Dr make s lot more difference than you'd think. Possibly psychological.
The only time I notice the weight difference over a dr350 or similar is putting it on a pit stand.

Mind you I have never had to pick it up.

I used to notice the difference when I first got it bit don't any more. Not even pushing it up the drive into the garage.

I do have a soft spot for CBs, more so the zero fairing models, so I should probably try one of the big 'uns. 240kmh is plenty fast enough for me.

Looks like it came out of the HSV styling department.

CB1300s are cool

Agreed. I do like analogue gauges too.

admenk: Whereabouts in Taranaki are you? I wouldn't mind seeing/sitting on/pushing around the driveway your cb13 if possible

I have a 2010 CB1000R with renthal motocross bars, crash bars, and lxil style exhaust.
Just seen 24kms, but I'm considering switching it up. $10k would probably be the very least I'd accept though.

I was a mug to swap mine for something else. In pic one you can just make out the tiny screen I fitted, just to keep the wind off the helmet area.
Second pic was taken a few months after I bought it, tank bag/double pack and two, up the bike is made for it. Tons of fun solo.
The XJR/CB and GSX1400 can all be picked up reasonably cheaply, my CB was $12995 brand new in 08'.
