my GS1000L has a set of mikunis on that look much the same as the originals, except the choke is a lever on the side rather than via a cable. i ordered a set of carb rebuild kits and went to fit them, first thing is the float bowl gaskets are striaght sided whereas mine are slightly kinked out before going straight, the second is the pilot needle is very different being shorter and have cross drilled holes in it, and the main jet holder is ten mm instead of nine. anyone familiar with what these may be from?
suspect a type of VM29, but which bike so i can get some kits?

VM29ss carbs were used on the first gen GSXR750's, post up a picture of the complete carbs please, also do the carbs have 27A00 stamp on the side in very small type set?

Just email Sudco with the carb ID
or the Guy .....Allen in the UK
There was a Mikuni agent in Aussie as well can't remember who.
or just search the id number with Google.

That's what they were called then.

At one stage I think Saunders were the official Mikuni NZ, but I guess they went out of business years ago?
I can't remember the last time I heard them ever mentioned?
The id should be diecast in or stamped on?

Sudco also have a very good catalogue
its bloody big so I can't post it.

Again, post up a pic of the set please Spyda. The bore size on the engine side will also help ID the buggers.
That air screw is a first for me...

Google lead me to this Spyda
here is the same airscrew

unique to the VM29 Smoothbore

Looking at the gasket maybe it was did like that as an expedient to fitting two types of carb bowls.
Or it is just unigue to the 1978-79 GS1000
Here is the same rebuild kit offered by Z1 for the GS1000 78-79

Doubt if they're VM29 smoothbores. Mine don't have that airscrew - and have straight sided float bowls.
They can however, depending on age and application have a lever choke or a pull knob - or a cable setup...
Normal Gs1000 VM26's again have straight sided bowls - but a cable choke.

Jay at TSS Lower Hutt was very happy to supply classic Suzuki carburettor parts for me. Im sure if the carbs are actually off a Suzuki he will be able to ID them & get the correct parts.

29mm smoothbores you lucky, lucky man...The big nut on the underside of the float bowls gives it away.
On the outside of the carb bodies - LHS of the LH pair, RHS of the RH pair - just above the bottom of the body casting, there should be a hollow square cast in - about 10mm square. Doesn't do anything but it's an ID mark for the 29's.
Are the bodies painted in some kind of crackle finish ?

Mine are I think earlier ones or maybe just optional jetting as they don't have that odd airscrew.

Do you need to treat yourself to a chocolate fish?
It seems that you'd be entitled.
