Hello all!
Yet again, my good friends the parking enforcers after 3 months of no issue, gave me a $40 parking fine. Been parking on the same spot for 4 months now and for some odd reason out of all the days I have been parking there, they gave me a fine. When checking the infringement for the reason of the violation... It says that I have parked in a paid parking spot. But that is a bit weird... I don't see my bike occupying a car spot space... At best, I park my bike so that cars can easily leave and park... So i decided to give them a call, to get a better understanding... I asked them, if I did purchase a parking ticket to park at that spot (which in this case I may or may not have) what would stop someone from taking that off my bike or even securing that parking ticket on my bike or worse, the parking warden would take it off my bike and still issue the fine. However the grunt from auckland transport couldn't give me an answer and told me the same thing over and over again " Put a band around your bike with the parking ticket"... I wanted to speak to a manager since I wanted to avoid getting fines in the future. When asking the manager the exact same question about how would I secure the parking ticket on my bike, she couldn't give me a clear answer and repeated the same answer as the stupid grunt. The manager replied saying "Even if you did buy the parking ticket, it isn't our problem if the ticket get stolen". I even went as far as to ask her what if your parking wardens took the ticket off the bike and gave me a fine. She couldn't answer me.... She told me that the best thing to do is the take a photo of the parking ticket and when you do get a fine, just submit the evidence to get that ticket remove. So I asked her, so you want me to do that everyday? Get a fine everyday and submit it to auckland transport everyday? and she couldn't reply. In the end of the day the manager was just as useless as the grunt who advice me to either superglue the parking ticket to the bike or take public transport to work.
My question is I park on the main street all day everyday, and I have no issue with parking nor fines. So why today, would I receive a parking fine? And I thought motorist doesn't have to pay for parking? Wouldn't it be easier to have a system, when you park your vehicle and pay for the ticket, you can add your number plate onto the ticket so that it would make people avoid stealing the ticket since it would be useless on another vehicle. This would accommodate for all type of vehicle parking on a "Pay parking spot". That system is currently being used in AUT manukau, where students would need to enter their number plates and choose the time to park in AUT. Or alternative, add more spots in auckland city for more ROOM for parking motorcycle as there is an increase in motorist in auckland.

I'd suggest you have a look at this:
https://at.govt.nz/driving-parking/
and, in particular, this section:
https://at.govt.nz/driving-parking/motorcycles-and-scooters/motorcycle-and-scooter-parking/
I'm a little mysterfied: had you left your bike in a "parking space", even the end of it? And was that a pay for parking space? If it's a pay for parking space and you've parked in it then you need to pay for it.
The suggestion of taking a photo of the parking receipt is actually a very good one...
I hope you didn't call the call centre people "grunt" to their face...

The joys of parking motorcyclists on/in/near paid on street parking. There is no point getting yourself worked up (and wasting more time). If necessary, provide proof when receiving the ticket, but this has been an issue for over a decade.
Look at it this way, they have electronic machines quite capable of looking up when a vehicles registration is current or not, but still enjoy ticketing for failure to display...
You need to remember they receive revenue from this, most people shut up and pay, so they keep doing it. If every ticket was questioned, they'd be swamped...

Well I would never suggest inciting violence. I'm just saying that US postal workers have addressed this sort of issue before I believe.

So.. I think what you are saying is.. you parked in a place where you were not ina car park, didnt pay for parking, and got a ticket for not paying for your parking, and you are wondering why you got a ticket for not paying for parking in a pay for parking area?
If you parked in one of the free motorcycle parks, you should tell them you got a ticket for parking in a free park for motorcycles.
Otherwise.. i have NFI what you are on about.

Attach your licence plate with a clip on mount.
Take the plate, your rego, and your ticket with you when you leave the bike.
Tell them to take a photo of your plate every day.

I didn't say I didn't pay for it... I said I may or may not have payed for the ticket. Lets say I did pay for the ticket and it got removed from my bike AND I got a fine... How would I prove my innocence? When I paid for the ticket with coins instead of a card. Do I just tell them oh I did have it on my bike and hope for the best?

3 (or is it 4?) months of parking for $40. Sounds like a pretty good deal to me.

I have been in this situation myself.Fact is they say that you must display your ticket (when you buy it) or be able to prove you paid for a ticket and if you cant, you obviously will get a ticket. So take a pic or pay with CC, or get a ticket.

Forget displaying the ticket on a bike. You have two choices.
You can either park and walk off or park, buy a ticket and walk off. If you do the former and get a ticket then tough shit, if you do the latter and get a ticket you send the ticket in and get off.
Dunedin shitty council don't expect a bike to display a ticket as they get nicked/blown off etc etc. Don't know why other places don't so the same. Mind you, what is the point of having a motorbike if you are going to go and pay for parking anyway?
