to go on an R1 ('08 if that matters). Mostly used only for the occasional trackday, or the odd hoon on windy country roads in the middle of nowhere. not commuting etc.

what are the benefits on going to a 200 vs a 190? havent had a 200 on before, but they seem to be all the rage on alot of overseas forums.

aside from sizing, anyone got a suggestion on a nice tyre for the above use? dont quite have the coin for the most expensive stuff, but cycletreads look to have some good pricing at the moment.

If your Valentino rossi you might appreciate the extra traction or even notice it. For average joe you'd prefer the slightly quicker turn in of 190.

My GSXR was supposed to have 190 rear, after the OEM wore out I stuck with 180 as that was cheaper and more tyre choices....

5.5 inch rim go 180 or 190
6 inch rim 190 or 200

I like 200/55/17 on the Agusta. It tips in fine on its 6inch rim.
I liked 180 on my old fzr race bike because it gave me faster lap times. 5.5inch rim.

190 it is then i guess.

any recommendations? cant remember whats on it now, but they were an impulse buy from cycletreads over a year ago cos they were cheap. Id like something thats reasonable grippy with reasonable mileage. Im not super fast but i like to push myself at the track again.

This is more complicated than a yes or no answer.

The slightly taller tire helps turn in, think of it like adding more ride height or dropping the forks through the yokes a little. Minute, but a difference.

The 200 also has a slightly different profile. This normally translates to a little more lean angle, but indirectly (think of the radius and the width of the tire as it rolls and the resultant change in the bike as a whole).

I prefer a thousand with a soft compound 200, assuming it's recent, it's on a 6 inch rim. Clearly, a 5.5 inch rim and a 200 is a different proposition, and I'm leaving that alone because I don't think it works. I really like Metzler Raceteks. They're sticky-ish, but the 200 means that you get a more uniform breakaway character - I reckon it makes it easier to turn the bike by using the throttle; I like the feedback on the limit of adhesion, you get more warning of the slide and when it happens the breakaway is slower and more consistent.

My street bike here is running Pirelli Grand tourers, 190/55's. It's like fucking wearing four condoms. The logic was I needed more than 500 k's of life out of a rear. If anyone has any cast off Raceteks, please let me know... Keeping the GSXR1300 in tyres is like living with an ex wife and a bitch mistress.

Too many variables at play there I reckon. Like Mossy commented, a 6" rim will handle both 190 and 200 so that part isn't an issue. Personally I'd run 190/55 as you'd need to be riding rather hard to get the benefit of the 200 section.

As for brands you can take your pick, for the use you've described I'd be thinking Metzeler M7RR, Michelin PP3 or maybe Bridgestone S21?

Look at Boyds (Hamilton) as they've got sharp pricing on rubber.

Cheap, grippy, or long lasting. Choose one.

Don't be afraid of the 200, it's a small difference. I've run 200's on a six inch rim on a GSXR600 and it worked - G O O D.

not a matter of fear, simply have never used one. looks like the '08 r1 does have a 6 inch rim, so shouldnt be an issue anyway.

i will have a look at boyds to compare, but it looks like cycletreads have some good pricing on a 200 section michelin power supersport evo, which i could pair with a powercup evo for the front.

Or a matching set of powercup evo (200/55 rear again) is another good option.

I am not up with the play on what tyres are ideal for what purpose, and I struggle to beleive the advertising blurbs, so im hoping some on here will suggest tyres theyve had good experiences with on similar bikes.

I just bough a set of super corsa sp for my Agusta and they would be perfect for track days.
I only ride on the road on that bike but I still get 5tho km but they are expensive.
Apparently R10 Bridgestones are good also.
Conti Race attacks are another option.
My new track only bike has m7rr on it and ill just use them since they are new and put up with a slight speed loss(were already on bike). Then ill likely swap to conti because super corsa is a bit expensive

Not ideal
