So I picked up a cheap as ag100.
Have got it running as best as it can be I guess in its stock form. I've taken all the carrier stuff off of it, to help lighten it a bit. Freed up the airbox, cleaned out the carb and fuel tank. Fresh gas etc. Sorted clutch cable and tightened everything up.

I've now just come to realize how slow and basically useless it is on the trails we have.
I'm not wanting better speed or power but was thinking since I know now how limited it is could I make it at least look and ride better?

I'm thinking strip it to the bones and just add different bike parts?

Or does anyone have any easy diy tips to get some more go out of this pig?

Can't sell it and buy another bike.
A. I live in Blenheim so there is no other bikes.
B. Don't have the funds right now.

Though there is a cr85 for 1k I could possibly get if I sold this. But its a small wheel? I'm only 5' something so might still be to big?

Do what you can with suspension, brakes and weight.

It will never, ever, be fast, but still capable of going to silly places.

Suspension and power do not necessarily make a better rider.

I cut my teeth on under powered over weight bikes and had a ball.

Lateral thinking. If you have to plod, ride somewhere challenging to plod.

Just my 2c, I like bikes that some sneer at.

Road bikes were my thing.

Ive actually just been offered a cr250 copy. Has a brand new engine in it, and a full set of new plastics. So I'm really thinking of selling my bike and grabbing that instead.

Put the carrier back on. It didn't alter the performance in any way. But it is good for carrying fuel / gear on day trips. I had on in my youth (and it was old then) and went to places all the "Flash" trail bikes went ... but slower and had a lot fewer issues (like assing off) in the process. And riding it will teach you some lessons too ... if only in patience.

In short ... if thats your ride ... DO IT ..!!! There are plenty of good rides in your area ... go do them.

ps. Carry spare spark plugs. And take a camera ... just to prove you DID go to the places you can say you did.

So going to sell the ag100. Should I put it all back to stock? And is $500 a fair price? Or $400 more realistic

Just put "Comes with" in the add .. !!!

Find somebody that wants it first ... then the "Make me an offer" ...

There has been plenty of similar threads before try and find some Yamaha MX100 or DT100 parts.
I have posted the ways previously to get these faster but the gear ratios on the AG100 are shit.

https://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php/180353-Making-an-ag100-keep-up-with-an-xr250?p=1130983825#post1130983825

find a RD250 reed valve and carb or any other 28mm carb make up a decent pipe and it will go way faster than the suspension and frame layout can contain.
But unless you are able to do all the work yourself it will be way cheaper to buy a better bike.
Pete Sales at total motorcycles was selling off some MX100 or DT100 stuff a while back.

Thanks for all that info mate I really appreciate it. I've sold the bike now though. Which made me happy, I've ended up buying a cr250 copy. A zongshen 2500 4 stroke.

I think it will be way better suited to my needs then the age for sure.
But I know zero about these bikes other then it has a new engine.

Am I missing something here?

Not much in common with a CR. Should have kept the AG bike.;)
