He will be busy till after March 2006... (due to building race bikes and racing them/kicking arse at the nationals)

Deaths Garage!!!!!!! He'll soon have a turbo bolted on for a bigger hp increase than what any other engine tuning will go, reliable????????? maybe not the YZF has seen better days.
Look at up rating your clutch as well, and watch 2nd gear on them.

I know this is going to sound strange ,,,but its you you are one of the best ways to get HP from your bike ... ,,,The cheapest most reliable way to get HP ..it make sure the bike is working properly ....as in carbs/injectors balanced ..jetted to suit carb/pipe ...AIRBOX is working properly ..( didnt frosty discover that ,,,no torque off the line due to jetting??)

THEN chain sprockets/wheel bearing etc ...( I know that sounds boring ,,,but a binding caliper can lose as much HP as a Yoshimura exhaust will gain )

Is the suspension working .....spring rates correct sags etc....
THEN after THAT ...go on a diet ...its an good lightening program) soodding difficult if you like beer!!!)
And AFTER all the above is in order PLAN the improvements ..the cost of HP is an expotential curve ...Talk with Ray clees....... internet ..read ....Form a plan ..

Then after that go to Ray with your plan AND the ( actual..not what you think..) riding syle you will be doing . Then let him use his experience ,,,

I know the above may sound patronising and possibly as clear as daylight( obvios...... 16th attempt at spelling that so gave up ) ...but I have seen so many people turn up wanting the top mechanic to make the bike dyno at 150 hp ...when the airbox is missing and the chain is shagged ,,,and discs are warped .....

Cams are a point ...I have an enfield ,,and the New owners seem to think that the original cams are crap ,,,they are in fact great ,,( if ground correctly ) they just need retiming and a compression increase to overcome cranking losses ,,,instant HP from errr..... 12,5 hp :hbd: to a whopping 25 HP

So good luck with the search for HP ...but please take your time before reaching into your wallet ....( it was one of these should I or shouldnt I post ..but maybe someone will save some money so I posted )

Sorry to be a killjoy

Kind regards Stephen

Stephen, he is asking where to go to get a good tune up???

Yeah but I think Ray Clee is a bit overkill. Someone like him has top racers banging at his door with blank cheques at the ready so a basic tune up is probably not his scene.

I think AMPS is a good start. Go for the tried and proven airfilter, jetting, exhaust, dynotune combo and that will satisfy most.

Stephen, he is asking where to go to get a good tune up???

I know thats why I ummed and ahhhed before posting ,,,,Ive seen many same type of questions pop up here ,,and with a little digging you find its got say pod filters on ...then when you look at said dyno graph afterwards theres a big hole in both owners wallet and torque curve ...

So ,,,I thought maybe I would just ramble on a bit ,,,,and if it ,made anyone think abit more before making a decision on whom and where and what to do ...then thats cool ,,,so i hit sent button ....

and boy I can ramble cant I :doctor:

nope this man has a MAJOR horsepower issue not just a simple tune up--He rode my YZF and couldn't beleive the difference -He needs an expert in jap import deristriction -and I strongly suspect its much more than simply adjusting the needles -

If it's derestriction then just throw on a good pipe,a set of nz carbs and a nz ignitor and maybe powervalve control unit.
Speaking of which, have you checked it works? They do stick and kill mucho HP.
But the turbo thing isn't impossible...... :devil2:

Thanks for the replies. I reckon on this bike there may be a restricted issue but the more that i think about the more I think that is unlikely, but I also feel that a run on dyno, tune etc may liberate a few welcome hp. It is producing low 90's at the back and I reckon that in a reaosnable state of tune a derestricted bike would be putting out about 100-105 rwhp, so really I am not too far off.

Yes I rode Frosty's bike, and I was surpised at how much quicker it felt, but it had flat sides on it and the power kicks in a lot more aggressively (fun!) than regular CV carbs.

This bike had flat sides originaly and they were swapped out (confirmed by a yzf fan mechanic at Red BAron). The CDI box is the original SP one and non-restriced (checked). So why would the original SP bike be restricted? Don't make sense. I reckon this bike needs a good tune up and that it just the way yzf750's are with regular carbs. I am coming from a 2004 R1 so it is bound to feel kinda slow.
The rest of the bike is sweet, brakes handling etc etc very nice bike infact.

Ray Clee is the MAN when it comes to HP and suspension. 90Hp from a YZF750sp is a sure sign there is a significant problem. It needs more that a tune. There must be a major fault with it. When was the last time it had the valve clearances checked? how many Ks has it done? Whats the compression like? Does it have the speed indicator light still connected? From memory it is the blue/white wire from the back of the speedo. If it has been unpluged thats your problem. The trick was to pull the unit from out of the speedo and plug it into the ignitor units blue/white wire. This tricks the ignitor into thinking the bike has not exceeded 100kph. If you just unplug it or remove the bulb it retards the ignition badly. A well tuned one with a motor in reasonable condition should see about 110 to 115 hp. If you put a FZR1000EXUp head on it you will see a bit more (bigger ports etc) a common mod back then. Find the flat slides and put them back on if ya can. Otherwise its dyno hours to set up the CVs.
We saw 135 to 145 hp on the old OWO1 depending on the tune so a bit o work and you should be away.
