I've always used the economy option from the US, which usually takes just over a week to Auckland. How much quicker is standard delivery?

It's the Auckland airport to your house in Auckland that takes the most time.

From experience, only a couple of days less. Given the price difference, I almost never bother with the faster service.

it's one service which has gotten so much more $$ and slow that i'm reluctant to use it unless its the only option left.... a shame really

The Youshop service can be great, but my enthusiasm waned when they started charging a customs clearance fee.

if they could steamline paying GST on imports so it doesnt get held up like any other package in the country it would be worth while, but it seems to suffer the exact same delays so is pretty shit!

Thanks. I may not bother then. it seems to me that the delay is at the US end - they just take longer to send it. NZ Post usually deliver quickly at this end, but it can take days after a parcel arrives at Portland before I am notified that it's been received.

I've found MyUS.com to be quick, but it's expensive unless you can spread the shipping charge over 3 or 4 items.

I use YouShop a lot, particularly for casual clothing and shoes. The US suppliers often send delivery updates to me regarding their shipping to Portland and I agree with you, the biggest delays seem to be in the US warehouse. I can normally live with that by buying well in advance of need, although we always want to play with our purchases asap! I quite often accumulate several orders at the Portland end to get them shipped at the same time. Interestingly, when I get the YouShop message that the goods have cleared customs in NZ, they normally get delivered to our rural address just outside Coromandel Town the next day. The courier service up this way is really good, despite living in the wops.

Yes, those extra fees and they charged me GST on a much less than $400 (or whatever it is) item.

Ordered something that came from a gun shop. But was not a firearm part. You Shop threw a hissy and refused to post it to NZ.
They offered to destroy it... Or ( at a cost) send it to a US address, or with lots of red tape have supplier send prepaid return parcel...
Can't be bothered with them anymore

the last item I bought was a private deal from a guy who lived in Portland and he was prepared to deliver to the Youshop facility, but no private access is permitted. He had to courier it just a short distance. He must have told the courier the story because it was a record cheap courier price.

On the bright side, Youshop are looking after your stuff.

Not keen on using them now.

I had ordered two parcels through one company which arrived at Youshop several days apart. Paid for them as they arrived, but they consolidated the parcels and then tried to scalp me for GST etc.

As it turned out, one order was split into three parcels (backordered), so I ended up with another two arriving at Youshop. One of those parcels arrived at my door and was the big ticket item, so I knew all NZ Post had were some oil filters, fork seals and possibly a brake light switch.

Still a never ending drama to supply invoices and bank statements to show the error to customs. Finally said I've done all I'm going to do, so if you're not satisfied, send the stuff back to the supplier in the US. To my surprise, customs had NZ Post release my packages, which they did.

Then NZ Post asked me to supply them with invoices.

I thought maybe with the standard service it would be sent from Portland faster, but it's been 2 days now.

Once things leave Portland, it's a good service. But the delays there are annoying. MyUS sometimes have a parcel on its way in 24 hours, never longer than 2 days.

Just for general interest, I bought 2 Columbia travelling shirts from different US suppliers via eBay. Total was US$86 freight free to Portland. I've just paid a consolidated shipping price of NZ$32 to have them shipped home at the slower speed of up to 9 days. The total cost comes to about 60% of what I would have paid here.

It'll likely get to Auckland then, but if it's expensive enough to attract GST you can safely add another week to 10 days.

Recently bought a new jacket from a European retailer who charged me NZ$35 to ship it here. Checked the box dimensions and weight in the YouShop shipping estimation guide, they'd have charged me NZ$47 for the same job.

Can't comment on how much faster YouShop might be, but the DHL/NZPost delivery was 18 days from door-to-door. If you've had purchases from Europe, how does that compare to YouShop from Europe?

Same for the race bike, EBC-HH for the rear from Aussy.
I ordered them on the 14th they arrived today.

Brembo race for the front much cheaper from Italy $121NZD+ $21-00NZD freight. Thats for two sets (one per side).
Also got quoted a tinted screen at $242-00 from a manufacturer here, I can get delivered for about $85NZD from Aussy.
And none of the above is from China or the likes.

Personally if there was 30% or more in it I'd still buy Kiwi!
But its generally huge difference.

The more I read about youshop the more glad I am that I use shipito.
I get a choice of sending goods to the California warehouse or to the Oregon one, there are advantages either way.
I can have packages consolidated and sent by UPS or DHL or FedEx, usually FedEx Economy is the cheapest.
Once I have asked them to consolidate packages and send to me, they typically get the package sent within a day or two.
When stuff arrives at their warehouse it seems to be entered into the system on the same day.

I've used shipito to buy some stuff that is way cheaper than buying it here, but often I use if for things that just are not sold here. Some things are too niche and then there are the cottage industries that only sell direct with no distributors anywhere. If I can buy something in NZ for a price that isn't too much more (30% dearer is acceptable) then I'll buy locally for better protection/easier warranty. The majority of my camping set up is not sold here and nor is there any similar equivalent products that I've ever seen. Many of the farkles on my bike have no NZ distributor, so I've bought from Aussie, USA or Bulgaria (Bumot Panniers & rack). When I have to pay GST I don't mind the GST but dislike the extra fees that customs charge, but generally I put up with paying what I have to because I just can't get the particular item here in NZ. According to shipito I've had 53 packages sent to me with 48 of them being consolidated packages, this is over quite a few years.

So far so good - Planet Express receipted the package less than an hour after it was delivered. It's something I don't need quickly, so have sent it to NZ using their budget option at $US 5. It will be interesting to see how long it takes - I suspect it's surface mail, but it can't take that long from Long Beach to Auckland by ship.

At least it hasn't sat in a warehouse for nearly 2 weeks.

It is a budget service, so you pay $2 per shipment and consolidation costs extra. But I'm never that organised, so not a problem for me. And instead of paying for each shipment, you have to top up your account. However, you can request the shipment, then top up to meet the cost as long as you deposit at least $5.

If the packages are fairly small, it's doubtful if they go by sea nowadays, just a slower form of land/air. Thanks for the tip about Planet Express, I'll bear it in mind. I have a YouShop consolidated package on its way from Portland at present. I'll post the dates, costs and intermediate stages from initial purchase when it arrives.

You have to do your own sums. Most of what I bought was freight free to any of the 48 states.

Not Youshop related, but I bought a Db killer for the Triumph from the manufacturer of the Italian exhaust system. The part was very simple, very light, and cost the equivalent of $35.00. The freight though was nearer $120. Most detailed tracking system I've ever seen - but that price.

The last item that arrived here just a couple of weeks ago was still shown as being in Auckland while the courier driver was pulling up my drive.

In general I wouldn't bother for just one package, but if there were other things you wanted and could consolidate several packages then the savings can be quite a bit of money.
One time I wanted some components that cost around US$10, but they wanted US$40 for shipping - totally not worth paying that much. But then I signed up with shipito and got some stuff sent from Amazon and a couple of other places and I got the US$10 components too, I got 5 or 6 packages into shipito and consolidated into one package to send to NZ. When you want something cheap, but the shipping costs more than the item, the easiest way is to make it part of a package worth over US$200 which brings the relative cost of freight down.

As promised in my previous post, here’s some delivery and cost data on my latest purchases ex-USA via YouShop. The purchases were via eBay and both suppliers were in states outside Oregon but with free delivery to the Portland warehouse.

Columbia travel shirt 1. Purchased 2nd Feb, NZ $50.91. Delivered Portland Feb 4 2019.

Columbia travel shirt 2. Purchased 2nd Feb, NZ$42.25. Delivered Portland Feb 7 2019.

Receipt of goods notified by Portland, consolidated parcel, 9-14 day delivery rate NZ $32 paid Feb 11th 2019.

Notification of shipment to NZ 20th Feb, cleared customs 25 Feb, delivered to Coromandel by rural mail 26 Feb.

I wasn’t worried about shipment speed but it was a bit slower than the normal cheaper rate.

Just for additional info, the shirts I bought are approximately NZ$90 each locally at Rebel Sport or Outside Sports so even with postage, it’s a decent saving.

Maybe! It wasn't long after Christmas that I received a parcel at the cheap rate in much the same time as the express rate.

I've just ordered a bunch of accessories from around the world for the Duke 790 that I pick up next week so it will be interesting to see how long they take. One of the parcels is free delivery from Hong Kong. They quote "up to a month" so we'll see how long in actuality.

I was going to order an Ermax flyscreen from France. The cost was pretty much spot on 100 Euros which was ok but the bastards wanted to charge me 70 Euros for shipping! The Italians wanted to charge me a similar amount when I bought a flyscreen for my old Street Triple but a mate in the UK got hold of one and sent it for just over 20 quid.

Yep, the stuff I buy from the UK is normally fast and relatively inexpensive - haven't even bothered to check out YouShop's UK service. I've bought a shedload of accessories for the Duke 790 over the last month, most of it through eBay from European sources. In most instances, the postage was competitive with with YouShop and took around a week to deliver. The only bit of postage which proved that extortion wasn't the sole province of the Mafia was my French Ermax flyscreen. The screen is about 31 cm long and the whole package was well under 1kg. They wanted just over NZ$100 to ship it. There was probably a way round it but you know how it is when you want something badly  so I bit the bullet. It took 6 days from time of order to receipt and the quality is great so I don't feel too bad.

The real win was as per the attached photo. This is an expandable tail pack ex-Hong Kong. Its delivered price was approx NZ$60 and for that price, I didn't have particularly high expectations. However, it's beautifully made with waterproof zips, an over-cover and padded straps to convert it to a back pack. A great deal there! It took around 3 weeks to arrive by the standard economy mail that the supplier uses but I wasn't in any particular hurry.
