How the fuck did someone like this make their way to the top of the police system?

Quite apart from any moral considerations he's obviously thick. Kiddie porn and bestiality on work devices? That's stupid. There is also another ongoing criminal matter? The Police really do need to take a serious look at their systems. Instead they will likely just circle the wagons.

Completely different but here's another one who should never have been where he was.

I wonder whether the fact that they've chosen to call it child exploitation material, as opposed to child porn, is to avoid having to charge him with a criminal offence.

The way most people end up at the top of those type of organisations, self promotion and willingness to put morals (if they have any) to one side to play the necessary games to make their way upwards.

Not really surprising that you might find they're sometimes not of great character.

You have to remember all that's needed is to create the impression of competence to those equally incompetent above, and enthusiastically support the latest 'strategy' and 'initiatives', no need to be clever or good at anything just unquestioning and enthusiastic about whatever rubbish they promote to appease their current masters.

I think they've already established that it's far to easy to connect what should be their secure internal systems to the outside world

Probably because they like using big words in legislation, sounds better when they read it out in court.

Yep Jordan Peterson did a good break down once that many people at CEO type level have sociopathic tendencies and certain lack of empathy almost as a necessity to rise to that level.
What’s refreshing is commissioner owning how bad it is and not offering up any excuses like say the Green Party might if it was one of them.
It did say he managed police IT system at one career stage…
Like any addiction drugs/porn/alcohol there is no sector of society unaffected.
Whoever was the whistleblower really should be on queens honour list or something, take some balls to call out someone that high up in any heirachy from what we assume must be a low level it nerd or subcontractor. At least it shows the police are transparen t and not into cover up

Interesting. There was a huge scandal some years back when, rather than buy existing software, the police tried to create their own. The plan was that they could then sell this brilliant product to the world. Entrepeneuring with tax payer money. It was a very expensive and very public failure.

Might be his style?

Oh, that sociopaths can do well in business has been known for a long time. Jordan Petersen can't claim credit for that.

Integrated National Crime Information System. IBM had a big involvement in that. And lost a bundle terms of both money and good personnel.

A woman from Wellington visited the office one day and said her previous job had been with the Police working on INCIS. Ever tactful I told her that if it was me I wouldn't have mentioned that.
