I have contacted Motorad and they have quoted me $42 to repair my rear tyre. Its still inflated but has a staple in it.

I would go ahead with it but they are booked out.

Any ideas for a cheap/good place to get it done? I want a propper job done as I value my saftey.

On the new toy: :crybaby:

This was what motorad said:

"Yes we are open on saturdays but unfortunately we have a fully booked day. The next available time would be the following Saturday, 5th of November.

Cost would be $33.75 plus $8.50 for a patch if tubeless"

What sort of a patch is this? Where do they put it and is it safe?

I dont think I want to have a tube.

Does Motorad fix tyres only on a Saturday??????

Do they not fix them on a Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday and Friday?

Surely there must be other places around Wellington or just out of Wellington that can fix the tyre without having to wait a week and half to get it fixed.

I've never had a tyre repaired by them, but every time I have been to Boyle Bros on Adelaide Rd I have had no issue with the bill or the service. They look a little untidy, but they are always friendly and helpful. And I've never had to wait long for an appointment to get work done.

Jim, is that a skirt on you wheel?

Bonez

Just a point. The staple may not have pentatrated further than a millimetre or so.

Hey crashe: this week saturday is the only day I can take it to them and I will really want to be riding saturday and sunday on my new bike!

limbimtimwim: I dont mind what end of town I go to, I just want my tyre to get fixed properly so it stays inflated :niceone: they just seem like good guys there I have had a few dealings with them.

Colapop: well sort of :devil2: damb hard to get those girls off my new bike... nah its the edge of my bike cover.

Bonez: I hope your right but I guess it would pay to go somewhere and have them pull it out and check if it needs repairing or not... I would prefer to ride it to the tyre shop :)

You could be forcing the staple in further by riding on it, causing more damage to the casing.

jimdaworm
26th October 2005, 19:39
You reakon pull it out?

Bonez
26th October 2005, 19:46
You reakon pull it out?Yes. If you have the means to get the tire/wheel/bike to a fixit shop should the tire go flat. Remember to highlight the spot just in case. Also check the rest of tire if you haven't already done so. If you look at the left of the tread you'll notice a wee hole, probably the other part of the staple poked in. Have a poke in there with a pair of needle nose pliers, flatterned braising rod or similer just in case a peice of staple is in there as well.

Will do, I could always push the bike to the shop... it would take a while though

So I pulled this out of it. Now my tyre is going down... every so slowly but its going down.

I put a bit of syliva on the hole and it takes a few seconds but a little buble forms and then pops. :spudguita

Who wants to help me push it tomorrow??

Best place?

Anywhere that doesn't start with "Well" and end in "ington Motorcycles" would be a safe bet.

I had the same thing at Motorad last week - they said I had to wait a couple of weeks pretty much. But then they said that if I brought only the wheel in they could do it that day so you could try that. Seems a bit odd to me seeing as it only takes 5 mins to take a wheel off and they said it was because they were busy but oh well.
I went to Motomart in the end though - they could do it on the same day and were cheaper than the price that you were quoted. That was with the wheel off though.

He used to work for them, so he's either taking the piss or giving you the inside word.

TSS are great. I broke a side mirror and they gave me a new one for free. Good on ya Fergus.
(I did buy my bike from there though).

Take it to Boyles, they are the best

Unless you bought it from another shop in which case tell them you don't expect to get a flat x days after buying the week, so they should put a new tyre on it for you NOW! ... and by the way, the bike can be collected from...

Another option for saving a push is to remove the wheel, and take it on the bus or in a taxi.

I didnt buy the bike off them. Thanks for all your opinons and info you people are great... I think its one of the the really cool things about having a bike.

No bitterness here mate, I left, wasn't pushed. Just saying in a round about sort of way that if you want to pay the highest price in Wgtn, take it there, if you don't, take it somewhere else.

Fair call - better to get it from someone in the know.

I ended up getting it done at TSS as they were able to do it Saturday morning.

They were very helpful and seemed to know what they were talking about, they also noticed that my chain was VERY tight and loosend it off for me (It was serviced last week at Motorad?)

Very happy, they seemded like good guys.
