Camellia court is the place I've negotiated with
They are in Tonga st taupo which is just off spa road -The road to the track The place is really nice and the people are both bikers.
I Have prebooked 4 motel units -2 have been taken by other KBers
The deal is a warm bed for the night, hot showers and tea/coffee/cooking facilities supplied - as well as the civilised way to do things methinks.
also I've booked one cabin for 4 people
Cabins -you supply your own bedding no cooking facilities and the loos are across the yard -4 per cabin
Im getting a special rate of $40 per person per night in the motel units and
$20 per person per night in the cabin.
If you want a bed pay/contact me Ill keep a log of names who have booked/paid for beds.
Ok as at Today 6.11.05 This it how it stacks up.
Large motel unit.-5 beds
MTrousers
Macd
Maddduck
Speedmedic
Small unit -full
Cabin --
Ranzor
Eric
slashwylde
Strat
Cabins -you supply bedding $20 per person per nite -4 per cabin
PH-073784346
If you want your own private unit call the place yourself but tell them you are booking an extra room under my name that way you get the discount rate
Folks a question was raised about this price structure.
This price is indeed a special price for us.
Keeping in mind we are booking in during PEAK times which are usually a lot more expensive than off peak.

ALL ATTENDING TRACK DAY PLEASE READ
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Im sorry to sound like a right mr Hitler here but please read through this carefully.
I want one and all to have a bloody good time so there are some points that are NON negotiable.
1) Bike setup/gear setup.
ANY BIKE going on the track will be scrutineered.
basicly bike needs to be able to pass a WOF but below are some specifics.
No sharp/edges/loose parts
Tyres must be road legal for road bikes.
ball ends on all levers to be in place.
.Mirrors removed or taped up.
No leaking fluids.
headlights will be checked and GLASS headlights to be taped up.
Pack rack uppers to be removed -L arms to be taped over-preferably plugged.
No open tube ends on handlebars.
Brakes to work prpperly front and rear.
Its preferable to have you tape over your speeedo. .
Riding gear-A full face helmet good fitting with no damage into the shell.
WE HAVE COVERED THE HELMET THING OFF BEFORE--SCRATCHES ARE OK DAMAGE TO THE HELMET STRUCTURE ARENT--IF IN DOUBT SHOW A MORE EXPERIENCED kbER
gloves,bike boots,cudura 2 piece,leather one piece or two piece.
Pillions will have a gear check on the line before going out. Please note pillions also need to sighn in
THE ONUS IS ON YOU TO MAKE SURE YOUR BIKE/GEAR IS UP TO SCRATCH
-Blown fork seals (oil not running down the fork leg) ,worn swing arm bearings and similar may not stop you getting on the track -BUT as a couple of members have discovered it really mucks up your handling and spoils your enjoyment of the day.Its a great excuse to get those niggly little issues sorted.
-2 Rules for the day
1 Show concideration for everybody else out there
2 Stick to your line -Dont try to get out of anybodys way or deliberately block.
3 when overtaking make sure you can do so safely. If in doubt -DON'T
4 should the front or back wheel come off the ground by "accident" make sure noones around you when you're doing it.
5 slow group riders are only to pass on the back straight before the braking cones
6 Touring group riders -no passing between hairpin and the right hander.-cones will be out to mark these points.
7 Fast group ref rule 3 also first session overtaking on the outside except on the straight --for first session.
8 if you see a flag waving anywhere on the track pull into the pits straight away -the clock will be stopped on your session so ya aint gonna miss out on laps. ANYONE trying to sneak an extra lap will miss out on the rest of that session.
9 If a slower rider is holding you up either rule 3 or ride slowly through the pits and let em get ahead. -again--it aint a race.
10 when leaving the track hold your left hand up to let other riders know.
11 if you are unlucky enough to run off the track raise your hand in the air to let us know you're ok.
12)dont look back
13) if you are unfortunate enough to crash (it wont happen but just in case)
Your bike and gear needs to be rescrutineered before you can go back on the track.
14--HAVE FUN-- LOTS N LOTS OF FUN
If you disobey these rules for first offence you may miss your next session and be a flag marshal at lunch time.
Second offence and potentially thats ya day finished.
Blatantly dangerous riding or riding under the influence of Alchohol or non medicinal drugs will not be allowed. Zero tolerance. You will be sitting out the rest of the day.
Again guys N gals I really want one and all to have a good time so these rules are to protect us all.
Photographers/spectators.-nobody will be trackside unless cleared by marshalls and they MUST wear a fluro vest (except during the braking session) and there will be some areas that are out of bounds -this is strictly in the interest of safety
Track day timetable

5th October 2005, 10:44
marshalling at a KB trackday is a simplified version of the "real thing" at a race meeting
marshalling--very very simple--
1)do NOT ever put yourself in danger--ya can't help other people if you are hurt.So STAY PUT
2)if you see someone crash you call on the RT --Rider Down Rider down then wave your flag from your marshall point.there will only be one flag
3)Only once the track is clear do you even think of going out to help the downed rider. At this point your discression is needed--if he's still laying there dont try to help him-call for the amulance---hes on the RT link listening in.
If the bikes pumping oil etc --get it off the track by the quickest route
Really easy innit

Yep, I was planning on heading down Saturday afternoon too.
I was thinking about taking the route from Ngaruawhahia to Pirongia, then between Te Awamutu/Kihikihi and Whakamaru that Quasi used on the National Park trip, and then cutting across to Taupo.

sorry messrs --you are right but wrong -
There are GOING to be 4 tracks
1) old track--as per picture
2) new track -about the same ish size as old track -sitting to the right of old track -TOTALLY seperate.
3) drag strip --uses the back straight of the old track then the join between the two tracks then finishing on the new tracks "Back" straight
4) full "gp" size track--making use of the old and the new track--im not sure of the configuration -it might have a pukie sized straight or it might have a right hander 100 (ish) m furthur down the back straight. Either way It will definitely join back onto the old track at the hairpin -but it wont be a hairpin itll be a simple left hand uphill corner

But, I AM intrested in the organisation though. As this is an event that might be quite exciting for some of us, and its a week away. perhaps a new thread started by someone who has been at the track a bit to start a thread about 'good idea's' for preparation for a trackday.
for example.
# make sure you know how to remove your mirrors without looking like a jackarse.
I dont know if thats something I should look into? I'm a track newbie.

You know how it is when you go to a event like this, and when it's all over, you realize, You didn't actually meet half the people you wanted too.
I thought for those that wanted a way to meet a few extra KB'ers, they could print off a list of all attending from post #2. Then through the day they can tick off the names that they have meet.
If you wanted to get crazy, we could have some prize for anyone who had everybodys signture at the end of the day. But that might be a bit over the top!
Just a thought to help everyone mix it up a bit.

Aww that would be an unfair comp--pillion would have won that at about 10 am (given all riders/marshalls have to sighn in)
Good point though.
I had the idea of having name tags for everyone but I thought that would be a bit naff
Im hoping that with half an hour between sessions that ther'll be plenty of time to mix n mingle.
Lunch break will be another half Hour of yakkin too.

I'll still be there Frosty but will be unable to do the kiddy minding thing. I broke my left foot and wrenched my right knee last week and am now reduced to doing a painfully slow hobble- and no I didn't bin my bike-I fell off a step all of 1" high (25mm to our younger folk). to add insult to injury I was stone cold sober!

Ok, well I don't know about pre-race prep but I did read this in a recent Superbike magazine and thought it had some good tips in it.
"When you start overtaking people on track then you're not just dealing with yourself, you have other people's safety to consider so the most important thing to do is use lots of common sense. At the trackday briefing you'll be told to do all of your overtaking down the straights, and this is where getting past someone is easiest. Never slipstream someone, but use your skill and knowledge of a circuit to start the overtaking procedure on the exit of a corner and then get cleanly past down a straight. If you're on a 600 and matey boy is on his new GSX-R1000 then this could be a bit tricky, so if you are coming up on people going into a turn and can't get past them then you've got two options. The first is to follow him (or her) for a couple of laps and see where they brake so you're looking and learning at opportunities. Then, when the time comes you need to be 100 percent sure that you will get past cleanly and make your move. The second option, and by far the easiest and safest choice is to just shut off and find some clean space. It's no fun being stuck up someone's chuff for a session so just back off and then concentrate on your own riding."
In my somewhat limited experience on the track, the scariest moments can be when being overtaken, particularly if it is your first time. So, when you guys and gals are going to be overtaking - think about it. Think about the person you are going past. And if you are the one being overtaken, hold your line, and I guess what I do because I am often overtaken, is always assume that I will be overtaken out of a corner, that way I don't get taken by surprise.

That's good advice. I normally follow a slower rider for a bit until I can sort out a safe place to pass. There aint no prize money so it aint worth being a wanker about passing. Unless of course WT is in front then its all on.

Keystone--all looks good advise--itll be covered off in riders brief
2 rules---stick to ya line/dont look back
The onus is strictly on the overtaking rider to complete the manouver safely
The track will be watched by AJ -all the marshalls and me/doogal--if we see dumb stuff we'll be "talking" to the people concerned

Can't say I've ever been to a trackday un-hungover. What's it like? Best one was Puke, April last year. Turned up after having got home at 5am that morning (thanks Grunta), never seen the track, the sun was hurting my eyes. Lynda Blair grabs a hold of me and screeches to everything in earshot (the whole Franklin area) "EVERYBODY, THIS IS WHITE TRASH!" Followed some handy pilot on a Gixxer 1K (KiwiStorm?) for a few laps to find out which way the corners go then gave them all a thorough dusting for the rest of the day on the 600. Then rode home.

Just don't go in the group Whitetrash is in as those guys are all slightly crazy. And the next group down are people trying to be crazy enough to get in the group Whitetrash is in so its actually safer to be in the other group as at least you know what to expect and I wont be in it.
No. Those guys are the ones who don't know they are crazy (but are). The safest group is the one standing trackside, bullshitting each other about how good they were/will be, lamenting be unable to prove it, if they only had a bike.

counter-clockwise...
follow a couple of riders that have been there before on the slow...""babybikies show and tell lap" you see the lines pretty easy...the only corner thats a bit trick to learn is the sweeper...but you'll be fine skel...

The sweeper is the one running into the back-straight?...looks like it tightens on the exit..guess thats the tricky bit :).
