I aren't really tired just yet and Riff Raff's gotta work early tomorrow, so rather than chase her around the bedroom all night, I thought she'd better get some sleep.

Right, it's time to do some much needed prep on the MiniMoto before the 19th, got some humble pie that needs regurgitating. So I put the bike up on the nifty, clamping work bench and get stuck in.

Three bolts later and the (broken) factory pipe's off and thrown in the nearest rubbish bin. Wont be needing that bit again. Pop off the fuel line, 5 bolts at the the bottom of the motor and the whole thing is sitting on the other bench, out of the bike. Hmmmm, 5 minutes down. Two allen screws, the carbs off and I find the source of last weekends shenanigans. When I bought the bike of Greg at Xtreme Machines, the first thing he said to me was "Fit a fuel filter!" Twelve months later and I still haven't got one. The fuel tap had so much crap in it, it just couldn't flow enough fuel.

Sorry MotoRacer, that's sheer negligence on my part and I owe you a decent ride.

So now the carb's off the motor, might as well pull the clutch off and have a look. No wear to speak of which is nice but I hear them new adjustable two shoe critters are the go so there's not much point in putting the old one back on, let's dig a little deeper.

4 more allen screws, the barrel/head assembly (they're one piece as stock on a chinker) is sitting there, thumb sized piston waving around on the end of the rod. I think I'll be putting an ignition advance flywheel key in at some stage so I'd better remove that too. Center bolt, quick pry with a SnapOn screwdriver (tool lovers the world over will love the irony) and the flywheel's off.

Well would you look at that, the cases are held together by 4 allen screws. 30 seconds later and the cases are held together by a not too stuborn gasket and a couple of crank seals. Then, whoopsee, that came to bits easy! And the whole thing's stripped. I've run out of bits to pull off. Check of the watch, 26 minutes. Bugger.

Anyway, the moral of my story is this, the main bearings are fucked. They feel like someone's packed them with sand. What a shame.

If the camera batteries weren't dead I'd show you a really cool pic of my motor in a million (12) bits.

Oh yeah and Aff-man? Remember how I said I'd keep it stock for one more meeting? *Puts on best Arnie in Commando voice* "I lied!" :motu: :wari: :motu:

Whats all this pulling apart with out me there you skinny bastard. How am I supposed to know how the friken thing goes together.
Dunno why I didnt think of the fuel tap on Saturday. Knew it was a fuelling problem but had tunnel vision with the carb needle thing... blardy late night previous too.
Oh well.. so the 19th you say, see you there.

What's funny, is it's quicker to remove the engine, then the carb from it rather than all the fucking around we did.

Educate us WT, what modifications do you intend to make to the motor.
And what rules exist to limit modifying within your racing class......must get out to watch you guys soon , sounds like a lot of fun!

Well that's just it. In the production class, it's for stock air cooled chinkers. You can gear it, and that's it basically. Problem is, the bikes are fuckin slow and I'm bored with it already.

I plan on jumping a couple of classes by throwing in a new crank, big port barell and piston, monster carb, adjustable clutch the fancy pipe I've got pictured in another thread and last but not least, a fuel filter. I'm also going to throw some top quality slicks on it to stop me landing on my head all the time.

Yeah easy as to strip, I've done it aswel, and me and dad built up that 'monster engine' that Jimmy's talking about. Our technical adviser ( :niceone: ) has said not to bother with the advance timing key because it won't really do much difference.

Jimmy, also check in the float bowl for plastic and shit that may have got in there, and raise the needle in the carb for more speeeeeeeed :headbang:

Two shoe adjustable clutches are awesome! Just have to set it in right...

WT - I bet it's all sitting in the lounge in pieces....

But did you remember to put paper down under the ummm workbench?
Cos if there is oil and petrol all over the carpet, someone we all know won't be a happy wee gal....

So if it took you 26 minutes to demolish the mini-moto bike....
About how long do you reckon it will take you to put it all back together again... and not have that one screw/bolt/nut/allen-screw etc left over.

Looking forward to the next meeting to see you ride the bike...
I think most of us missed it.... as it was kinda all over in a flash. (pt)
Mind you we did see more of Motoracer carrying the bike than riding it.

Maybe try a bit of Sunlight liquid dishwashing liquid.....
Sard's wonder soap is great as well.
Or ring around a drycleaners to see what they could recommend....

Take and hide all workshop tools away from him....

It's all in the name of performance..... the lighter it is, the quicker it is....... and if it still goes aleight they were obviously just excess weight! :msn-wink:

In all seriousness A-man, pull the thing down anyway because you'll find the main bearings aren't too shit hot. You'll get better power and the bike will be a hell of alot smoother for it. Bearings will be cheap as chips and it's something to do on a Thursday night.

aff-man
3rd November 2005, 20:22
Put it this way you can have an extremely competative open class minimoto for under $1000. And it will be fekkin fast..

WT Yip will do. Oh yeh and as for the pegs you should do the same it'll help you corner better on the right handers if you shift it back so your foot is behind the pull start apparently.... getting some nylon so we should have some flash pegs at the next meet. Will be replacing most of the bearings if they are as shagged as you say......

Bike $599 Xtreme Machines
Wheel bearings $ 39 Saeco
Stupidly fast
engine kit $460 Xtreme Machines
Sticky as chewing
gum slicks $266 Xtreme machines

And that's it. Believe me, you'll hurt yourself plenty on one of these once it's tricked up a bit.

Team Xtreme standard that is.

Hope you will come down for a raceday one day, I can see how my years improvement is paying off and see if I can atleast semi keep up...

I'm actually getting beaten in our points by another rider on a standard bike (decided I'd take a break for a round when the track was puddled and it was pissing down), but not for long :headbang:
