Coromandel loop ride
Well with the silly season upon us, I've only got time for one more decent ride before BBQs and working do's take up the rest of the weekends between now and then. After weighing up all the possibilities, it's going to have to be the Coro loop. tentative details are:
Meet: 9am at Papakura Autobahn
Leave: 9:30am
Proposed route: Ab-> Drury-> Quarry Rd-> Hotel Du Vin-> Miranda-> Kopu-> Coromandel-> Whitianga for lunch (and possible Orca watching)-> Tairua (with a stop to check out Gareths tree  )-> either down to Waihi then through gorge or just back to Kopu, depending on time then home via Hunuas.
Speed: Up to medium pace, as this is also going to be a sightseeing trip for a work colleague from Amerika.

Yeah I might be keen...provided that I'm not too knackered (or binned) after the Puke open day on Friday.
Prefer a med-fast pace on that road though...so any company with as few brains as me would be appreciated...?

Medium = ~110-120ish on the straights (not that I condone any kind of law breaking, but my speedo is waaaay out officer, I swear!), so you probably wouldn't get out of second :bleh:
Main reason being that my colleague has never ridden on NZ roads b4, only them flat concrete things the Yanks build, so I don't want him caning it and coming a cropper.

these rides tend to be split up wtih peole going at all paces and waiting for each other so everyone should be fine except for perhaps new new newbies...
I should be in for this weather dependant.. ie unless it is hosing down i'll be there.
My tyres are getting chicken strips on them..to much communting. :)

Fairly long aye...can be done in about 4 hrs (I think, haven't done it that often lately), but with stops and stuff probably more like 7 hrs.

Good to hear you're on the mend. As to gears, I'll be in 5th (top on the VTR) for most of the way myself. Problem is, I can't stop myself from yanking the clutch and trying to go up 1 more cog while I'm riding, as if it will just magically appear

You done the coro loop before?? I'd imagine you'd be going up and down 4 gears from corner to corner - on quite a few corners. 110-120 on the straights will probably be the slowest speeds... but there will always be someone waiting at turnoffs.
Will do my best to get my bike in shape and turn up.

actually, Coromandel has NOTHING to do with auckland, and never will have. you can visit, but leave it as you found it, you big city, power hungry, waikato river water drinking louts....
if you kill at least 1 possum on your trip though, you get a day's free membership to the Greens.

Think there may be a few new people coming down that way so if anyones unsure of the way to the Autobahn then perhaps a little convoy down from the CBD? :stupid:

Here's some awards for the day....can I have the envelope please.....
The award for wettest rider goes to....
Weasel!! For gods sake get some cordura man, or at least a jacket that meets your trousers so people following you don't get freaked out looking at this: :shake:
Most surprising handling bike....
Yamaha V-Max. Bloody hell that thing can go round corners. Changed my mind about all cruisers being lumps that can only go on straight roads.
Biggest whoops....
That would be me, I'm afraid. So many I can't remember them all (but thats what you get when you go hard), so here ar ethe highlights:
1. Scraping my toe at 130 through a long sweeper and having it almost yanked off the peg.
2. Lost concentration coming through the gorge to Kopu on a sweeper and ended up in the wrong lane for a while.
3. Accelerating in the wet while crossing a white line whilst passing Chickenfunkstar and having the rear break away.
Bike I'd most like to own....
Sorry Yoshi, but it would have to be Juzzer's VTR1000 or Kornholio's yellow Gixxer.
Rider of the day....
I reckon everyone deserves the props for hanging on even though the weather looked like it was going to be shit all the way round, but after lunch when the sun came out....well, you know the rest :2thumbsup

I'm so surprised to get this award... but I'd like to thank my mother for charging too much rent thereby reducing my chances of getting some proper gear, I'd also like to thank the kind people at Burger King for taking care with my daily nutrisional (sp) needs. :first:
But that's not all... got up this morning to find my ass is sunburnt!!

hey guys Krayy's yank co-worker here :)
first, thanks to Krayy for organizing this and letting me come along...even going so far as to find me a bike to ride... thanks bud!
to the rest of you crazy guys (and girl) thanks for allowing a bloody american to tag along...it was an awesome time and an experience i won't soon forget. there was some incredible scenery that i could catch a gimpse at from coasting at 120kph
given the choice of stopping to take a picture or ride the ride...the choice was obvious -- thats what postcards are for, right? ;)
if any of you guys (and girl) will be going to Colorado, let me know and i can hook you up with some great rides...then again, that was an incredible ride and you might be a bit disappointed
anyways, thanks again -- i couldn't have met a nicer bunch of biker's to tag along with :2thumbsup
Ta!

Nice ride guys(even tho I was late and come up through Kopu/Tairua/Coroglen)...thought I would wait at Coroglen for yas ... mmm cold beer, wicked toasties, not bad barlady and you guys came past just as I ordered my feed so couldnt catch up there... lol it was like watching the first corner of SBK as you guys came past the pub and around to the bridge, very nice...finally caught yas at Tairua and Yeeha off to Kopu... Pesky bloody thou's tho(V-twin and 4 cyl-yes I mean you Yoshi :p)
On a more sombre note about 20 ks from home I came around this corner and nearly run up the ass end of a cop car doing 90... instantly his lights came on and signalled for me to pull over, so as you do I whacked it down a couple and overtook him and got the fuck outta there , goddam 750s wheelie on command didnt work and he got my plate...after taking a few side roads I got back home and parked her in the shed and mate came round and we went into town...cops turn up 30mins later find the bike and told my flatmate to get me to give him a ring tomorrow
Just been in and have been charged with Dangerous Driving and failing to stop for flashing lights and sirens
Oh well my bad, life goes on...
May have to get some track time in I think :D
Until then Go hard

Krayy - thanks for organising the ride. A great day eventually.
Quasi's leathers were a big improvement on the Cordura - except for the first 30 mins.
The photography was a ---- up. I got Yoshi ?? on the first corner but the rest of you were slowing down to check out the "incident" & I was screaming at Yoshi to say I was up the bank taking photos bla bla bla. Lesson learn't to let everyone know what I'm up to. Next Coro trip I want to try that corner again. The second corner half of bloody Auckland came around in their cages with you guys.
Here are a few - all dark for some reason. I'd better read the manual.

Who was the one on the XV250? I thought I knew of everyone on here that had a Virago.
Certainly rides it well judging by this pic (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=20049&d=1131941517).

Thanks Kravy
Great day, especially since coming up from the Waikato missed all the rain!
Highlights:
- Following Kravy from Whitianga to Taurua - nice pace (somewhat sub Yoshi, but fun never the less)
- Watching the V-Max go past at warp factor 9
- the xv250 - that chick can ride
- ride with Hodgeman through Whangamata to Waihi
- breaking in the new Pirelli's
till next time

CaN2, Christine... I think... should be. rides the Virago.
Fantastic ride once I'd dried out a bit, best bit by far was just after lunch, through the twisties, bike was still cold, but I must have been leaning heaps, because the strips have been cut down, and the rear is showing some signs of wear (for a 250...)
Downsides:
- Trying on a 250 to overtake cars on non-existant straights. Ending up with queues behind just waiting... and waiting... (you were always welcome to pass at warp 9 btw).
- one point eventually overtaking 2 bloody cars, only to have a stop a couple of corners later at the top of somewhere... gutting to see the cars go past again... :weep:
- bastige big bikes creating a gap between them and traffic, only to close it in a nanosecond. At $1.20 or $1.30 it took me a good 5-10 sec to catch up :crybaby:
Upsides:
- All you guys
- Some of the most fantastic corners yet on a ride (the pass again, sorry, it was a highlight)
- Leaving you all behind on my road outside Clevedon :2thumbsup even that wheelie thingie, it never had a chance, even being >5x capacity :devil2:
Brilliant. Great job Krayy as well :niceone:

Cheers for the photos Trev,
Never had a photo of me riding my bike before....
Thanks for an awesome ride, loved the roads, awesome buzz.
Finally can put a face to some KB'ers.
Looking forward to another lap around there.
Wasn't too much of a mission from Rotovegas, only an 8 hour round trip.
Going to do the South Island west coast over new years, looking forward to that!
Great to meet such a weird bunch of freaks... lol joking.
Until next time.
