help is greatly needed by this young dickhead [me] i have damaged my bros650 if you dont already know. i would like some help and advice.
1: i need a new headlight, should i go aftermarket, eg...buel, or some other streetfighter style? how expensive are these?
2. could i fit a gpz right hand side control [killswitch and all that]. or should i just ge a new one, because mine looks like it exploded.
3. where can i get a new tail peice [plastic thingy] from? i want a bros one, would a bros 400 tail peice fit?
4. my tank has a large dent, the old man said this can be fixed with the right stuff. could i do this myself? or is there anyone in masterton/palmy area that could do it?
5. new front gaurd. is there any aftermafket bits? or would an original be better or cheaper?
6. new instument cluster.......that exploded when the bike bounced on it.
7. my zorst has some big kinks, this, apparently, can be fixed.....how?:2thumbsup

any help would be great thanks dudes:yes:

no, i just can't imagine someone offering a fuckwit like me a better bike then i can handle. atleast i know now it would be a bad idea for both of us [me and winja] i would definatly be dead and his bike would be pancaked.

look i learnt a lesson.

Hi Dude. You can get a replica headlight in Chrome for Hondas for under $100 from any shop or some funky after market ones for around the same $.
Yes ya can fit a gpz switch but you will need to adapt the wireing using the plugs from your bros and a couple o wireing diagrams. Try the wreckers for a tailpiece. Yea a 400 one should fit. Try Henery at Takanini mc wreckers. Same for tank and gauges and front guard. Pipe is up to you but he may have one o those too.
Good luck man

hey there D/L,

the decision is yours on what & how is to be done to the Bros.

aftermarket ideas for guards, lights etc have a nosey at Rapidart NZ

www.rapidartf1.com

for stock replacement parts check, www.motorcyclewrecker.com

depending on how badly the tank & exhaust are, there is a few bits n pieces that can be done cheaply otherwise it starts getting more involved & expensive.:slap:

its a prick having to go through it & a bastard having had a dingle at speed like that, i remember skidding down the road on my ass watching my bike in front of me shoot of the road down a bank & cartwheel 3 times at 140kmh. it was all good until it decided to take up acrobatics, damage went minor to major in under 2sec:eek5: :brick:

Hey Dougy,

So, ya put it down the road....bugger..

Mind you when the ZX-10 is going properly, I'm going to be doing everything I can not to do the same !!!

Anyway, if you want anything to do with Honda spares you just cannot go past Econohonda. Malcolm is just awesome when it comes to price and service !!!

Cheers

You can get Buell XB12S twin headlights for about $140 (maybe less) as a spare part.

Have a look on the net.. Customising these things was a big industry in the USA at one stage and all sorts of stuff could be had.

They were called something odd overthere... superhawks, hawk gt or something.

Cheers

thats a good wee project you've got a head of you!, that tank looks FUCKED! it would be cheaper to get a secondhand one rather than repair it ( unless you've got a good mate whos handy with CIG)

the subframe may be a mission!

the exhaust isn't too bad, at least the headers are intact, an idea would be get a supertrapp or similar that would fit in there nice & neat.

heres a pic from a mag for some ideas

S3 lights as an aftermarket item are in excess of $300 I believe. Go to www.sportsbikesnz.co.nz and have a look there. Apparently you can just get 'standard bates' style lights, but I dont know where.

2 - 2.5 inch mmmm rite! ok! the junction pipe maybe 2inch but the rest isn't the headers at best would be 1 3/8inch.

NTV400 tank is the same the whole bikes the same apart from obvious capacity difference

ducatilover
17th November 2005, 13:22
WTF do i do here???? is this fixable? if so how do i bend it???:2thumbsup
thanks for the linky skel but the lights they have are too much, might ask a wreckers....

If it's steel , and not heat treated, you can heat it up with a gas torch and bend it straight. But you'll need either a jig, or at the very least a straight one to use as a template.

ducatilover
17th November 2005, 13:44
dont want to heat it just in case....looks like a trip to the shop or the wreckers:doh:

it should be alloy but to check just use a magnet & see if it sticks to it!

does it make any difference? i think its high tensile RHS but i'll check tommorow:yes:

Ixion
17th November 2005, 21:23
If it's high tensile , heating may be unwise. But cold working may be unwise also. Wrecker might have one?

it's steel.
when you repair or replace it, try painting it black.
i though it looked a lot better that way

19th November 2005, 20:50
okay thanks. i might redo the bike in a nice red:yes: have you any idea as too improve the forks, i am told that these are what caused the wobbles [apart from stupidity, excessive speed etc?]

oh yeah, thats a mint looking bros.....mmmmm orange, tempting.......mine has great aftermarket rims and they look 50 times better than stock rims

well - your tyres out of spec was prob the biggest problem, but mine had a very soft front end when i bought it. i used a 40mm preload spacer, and went to heavier oil and more of it.
i'm 104 kilos though, so your experience will be different.
remember this is an old bike, so get someone who undertands suspension setup to take a look at it, front and back.
this isn't something to screw around with at home, especially if your wheel sizes are different from stock.

Ducklover--give Velox a yell--You can have the headlight I gave her--aparently it doesnt fit.
switchblock wise ya might wanna try GB400/500 or cbr/vfr400 stuff.-itll sure be haps better/easier to fit than kwakka stuff.
Tailpiece wise yep the 400 bros stuff should fit.
Instrument panel wise --Hmmm ya could try GB400 stuff again -A bit of lateral thinking in the local wreckers might help here.
Ive got a speedo unit from a yamaha srv600 that would get ya going.
