Can anyone tell me why my kr150 smokes SOOOO much!? I think with it being a two stroke engine a bit of blue smoke is understandable, but mine seems to smoke clouds full of it... I've had it for about a month now and I'm sure it didn't smoke that much when I first got it. Could it be because of the oil that I'm putting in it? I use 91 for the petrol and went and brought "TT Super Two-Stroke" oil from Caltex.

Also, being new to the biking world, whats some basics I can do to get the most out of my bike and to keep it good condition.

Any feedback to this would be greatly appreciated. :2thumbsup

Firstly, welcome. And congratulaltions on riding a two smoker. Two strokes rule!.

As to smoke. It may be that your oil pump needs adjustment. The oil you are using is fine. It may also be just that you are not riding it hard enough. Two strokes will often build up oil in the system when ridden gently. You need to give them a hard blast every so often to clear them out. One other possibility, is gearbox oil leaking into the engine through a defective crankseal. But in that event you would usually notice a loss of performance and hard starting. And the gearbox oil would disappear.

I'd suggest a good hard ride - wring its neck , its a two smoker they need to be ridden hard every so often.

i'd only put castrol super tt in my lawnmower , splash out on sum decent oil , it may help

Thanks for the feedback so far, I took it for a thrash today and it smoked like hell at first but after after a while it pretty much went away. It could've been because it got mightly windy but either way I'm that little bit more happy with it.

And about the oil... I *regretfully* went out an brought a 2litre bottle of the oil and have no money till mid feb so that'll have to wait... :thud:

I'm with Ixion...although it may have a build up of oil in the exhaust you are burning out with hard use.Ditto the pump adjustment - check the cable,sometimes some clown pulls up on the outer and it doesn't seat back into it's fitting.Also very possible it's a crank seal sucking in gearbox oil - pull out your gearbox dipstick,if it has one,and smell the oil - now stand behind your bike and take a good lungfull of the smoke (this is good for you,and builds up an imunity so you can ride behind other 2 strokes without choking) Does the smoke smell a little like the gearbox oil?....not a good method,but can help pinpoint the problem.

If your crankseals are leaking, your gearbox oil and internals will usually smell of petrol (oil can get into crankcases, petrol vapour can get out). So one trick is to take off the gearbox filler, stick your nose down the hole and have a good sniff. I like the idea of bikers sniffing their gearboxes. Just don't get caught doing it, it's impossible to explain to non bikers.

Well today has been a good day!! Went for a burn with a mate an then dragged another mate in his car down the looong road from the airport :lol: the fun of carving the boys is good.... until i get to about 100kms an they catch up an eventually pass me :doh: but i was still hyped about it...

annnnnnyyyyyyyyways.... took my bike over to Racey Riders tonight and he had a quick look at it seeing as im a complete n00b and it seems in good nick which I'm very glad about :) Cheers for that Racey :2thumbsup (and all you others who put in helpfull advice for me too!)

My little KR 150 does the odd bit of smoking from time to time(always gets worried looks from passer bys) but nothing a good ring out doesnt fix :-)

What sort of "good" oil do you guys recommend using? i have been using the castrol stuff ( TTS I think) thinking it was pretty much as good as oils go.
