I'm actually pretty confident with my passing maneuvers, it just looks a bit close but I am in full control.

What I need to sort is my stupid tendency to stand up inbetween right handers and my late/over braking in corners.... and general stupid cornering...... :wait:

hahah... totally :) it was fun seeing u at some of the right handers... otherwise its sweet... oh and remember if you are letting people past... slow down :)

As for that corner cutting, although I dont condone it the visibility was good for 200 meteres at least so there was no danger(meh)
What about the car/bike that wants to pass..... they cant, think of others thats what I'm trying to say :2thumbsup

I dare say that if you Southlanders organised as many sizeable group rides as us Orklanders, your statistics would be about the same when it comes to bins.
20 riders on a KB ride 2 weeks ago, over to the west coast.... NO bins (BrenChCh however did end up with a permanent pinch mark in his seat)

How many were on the Coro ride?

BTW We are not Southlanders... we are Mainlanders... thank you  Southlanders belong south of Scumdog (includes him, they talk funny)

The only reason that happened is cos I didn't know you were there

Otherwise I'm the first person to wave people infront - as you know.

Not sure how many on yesterday's ride, looked like about 15 or so in the pics outside the hotel?

Some facts YOU'RE NOT aware of

Enigma51 and I went together.. we work and ride outside of KB and have an understanding of what we do and our likes/don't likes
We rode by ourselves at OUR pace intentionally, so we had clear runs
Anyone catching we let go, waved on. Anyone we caught we waited to be let through
That stretch of road was clear front and back and i was following (as seen) and Enigma knew i wouldn't pass

All i'm seeing/hearing is someone, finger wagging, preaching and concluding based on 'some' photo's and 'some' hear say. I also get the impression you have a dislike for anyone north of 'your' patch.

My perception, based on your comments, is you're a small minded finger pointer with a chip on his shoulder. Exscuse me if i'm wrong :wait:

Fuk nose why i'm trying to explain anything to you Dangerous, WE had a good run as did the majority and Yoshi did a good job.

Actually we had close to 30, I think I counted 27 at Kopu and a couple more turned up at Coro.
If the weather hadn't looked so dicy, and the Nationals weren't on I think Yoshi would have got his record easily.

It's only illegal if you can see less than 100 metres of clear road ahead of you, you could see at least 300m up the road on that corner.
oh so its only illegal to travel on the other side of the road if you cant see more than 100metres in front? Ok when you can see more than 100 m?
Sorry mate but the only time I will travel on the other side of the road is too past something car/truck/whatever ...full stop... no other reason or need to do it, unless of course you cant handle the corner and NEED to cut it ...

sorry not really serious about the travelling on the other side of the road above :2thumbsup
and this particular situation it *may* be okay to cut it, but there seems to be a few who think it is the "norm and ok" to cut corners, and newbies will see that and think *shit cool I can do that too*... maybe if you have huge experience and know EXACTLY what to do in an emergency situation for when that truck cuts the corner in front of you, but otherwise play it safe, live another day :drinknsin

Funny you should say that, while I was riding to Coromandel from Thames, by myself, I had to take evasive action 3 times where oncoming cars and one small truck were cutting BLIND corners. Now when that road narrows, I know to keep well left to avoid all the Pajeros towing boats etc. The pics of us cutting the corner is a totally different stretch of road and those of us that did, did it safely as we could see the whole road and knew we weren't putting anyone in any danger.
I hope I didn't set a bad example for the newbies.

Yup remember that stretch with Tony up there with his camera. Can't remember how I did it but it was up hill with great vis and anyone judiciously using both lanes could easily do so with safety. Why all the grief?

Gotta disagree right here Zed, I've ridden with a good sized bunch of Christchurch riders a couple of times now on road rides and have yet to come accross one with "my dick's bigger than yours" syndrome. And although the Coro ride Riff raff and I gatecrashed last weekend was different (thank goodness), every other Auckland ride I've been on, I've met one.

Why the grief? Becouse with the number of Cagers crossing the centre line in that area it really isn't safe for anyone to do so. And it will happen one day where these peaple that say they only cross the centre line when they have good visability will start thinking that a meter less is still ok. Then another meter less and another. Then one day a car happens to be on the other side.

Only time I will ever cross the centre line is when I have a good 100m atleast visable of road and need to pass someone. Other than that as I said before why make a curvy road straighter? We all bitch and moan when the government does it.

WE CROSSED THE LINE BECAUSE WE HAD GOOD VISIBILITY AND THERE WERE NO CAGES COMING THE OTHER WAY!! Who are you to tell anyone how safe, or not, it is in that area?? You probably dont even know that road at all.

OK GUYS CALM DOWN!!

Firstly, there is absolutely no way you can tell a persons riding style from some photographs... only those who bear witness can comment. Whilst Boomer and Enigmas riding styles seem a little fast and agressive to me, that's how they ride... if I don't like that then I'm free to let them go past (not that I have much of a choice :( )

Secondly, quit the bitching... you may not like to hear this... but you can't make other people do what you want them to do. Free will is a bitch. If you want to make a comment about somebodys riding then PM is the place to do so, either that or pull them up quietly at the next stop for a chat. If they choose to ignore you then so be it, nothing else you can do about it.

There will always be people out there who you think are worse / unsafe / dangerous riders... if that's really true (and this is gonna sound heartless) then at some point they'll bin it and hopefully walk away wiser.

I know for a fact that my off taught me that you can't take your mind off the ball for a minute, otherwise just when you don't expect it that road'll bite you in the ass (literally).

We're (mostly) all adults here, and the adult thing to do if you don't like the way somebody rides is to not ride with them.

So.. urm... I think that's about it... I just feel that we get enough bad rep from the rest of the motoring world, don't need to be giving each other greif over something as unimportant as this.

Weasel,
Have talked it out in PMs with Boomer. Didn't really reach an agreement but came to a sorta mutual respect. Tried the same with Goblin, but got nowhere.
As I told Bommer, maybe I'll understand the sportbike point of view when I get myself one next year. Till then, yea I'll try to be less judgemental.

I'll have to sit down with a beer and read the last few pages of this thread. Haven't seen anything this entertaining since the flame wars in the old days when I first started computer gaming. Here was me thinking those in the various online worlds were too jaded and weary to sling shit with passion anymore.
------
Just for the record, I was definitely surprised at the speed of the ride, but more importantly where the speed was. I always slow right down in 50/70/80k areas, but on this ride everyone kept riding away from me in those parts. Also, I always try to be patient and only pass in sensible places but some of the passing I saw was dodgy at best.

38 years on this planet has taught me a thing or 2 about staying alive and I don't let any bastard push me on the road for any reason so I ride at my own pace and fuck anyone that thinks I'm slow.

On all other rides I've been on there's always someone who is tail end charlie who rounds up the stragglers. Next time, I'll volunteer for the job if no one else wants it.

Blackyoshi, thanks for organising the ride. Although I reckon it would've been much better to have stayed and completed the loop. When the person people percieve as the leader of the ride leaves, there's a sense of nobodies in control now so they can do what they want. Not much you can do about those that think 120kph is slow, but you could definitely have provided some leadership for those that didn't want to ride fast. Many not so experienced riders do feel pressured to go quicker, and that was what I was seeing on the way up to Coromandel.

boomer is fantastic rider, leaves lots of room to pass, he has great lines, is a non-aggressive rider and rides well within his capabilities. The accidents that happened could have been avoided, except for one. Mine my back wheel locked up on me due to a mechanical fault with my bike, I was very lucky I was cruising at the time. As the witness to the crash told to local Cop.

All the crashes that happened, were good crashes. No one was badly hurt only Egos and Pride were damaged, Bikes are consumables, body's aren't. All the people learnt from their crashes and i'm glad they happened on a Kiwi Biker ride with lots of nice people around to pick them off their feet and help them out.

I am texmo know me before you judge me, this biker animosity has to stop. I love riding by myself, I hate riding with others. But I do love to top at each pit stop and talk shit with others who can share my feelings of passion for riding, So every time I take off early are let the fast guys pass me simple as that.

xxxxxx is fantastic rider,

Fantastic riders can and do stay on the correct side of the road and/or keep it to the track, IMO those pics do not show fantastic rideing..... a one off maybe? but thats not the point here.

Hopefully we have all learnt something about ourselves and others around us.
Personally i enjoyed the ride and the company, I enjoyed taking the pics & never thought they would provoke such an outburst.:wait:
On my 1st ride, pics were posted and it added a nice touch & they looked good.
I think everybody likes to see themselves on the machine in a corner! or with a nice bit of scenery in the background.:blip:
So i thought I will have a go at that & see if I can get some good shots for people to enjoy.

how about just sayin that, when you ride, no one is going to save you but yourself. so ride to your pace. some one else wants to play He-Man, then let them go. They'll find out the hard way. Wether it be your ride, or someone elses. Nothing you can do. I know everyone has good intentions, but we haven't even started the good summer runs yet, and it's already turned to shit. SCS won't go away, so let them go scare themselves and then they'll settle. End of the day, only one person rides the bike, only one person makes the decisions. I don't want to go on Nazi rides, I want to ride at my pace with my friends. That's what all this is about. If people are going to be dicks or ride bad, then avoid them, and/or don't invite them along.. I've already made the choice to avoid organising rides and joining large rides, just cos the aftermath like this, is just too fuckin much. Where's all the fun gone?

and yes, I know I wasn't there. I've ridden with a lot of guys on this ride at some point or another, and I'd ride with you all again. But this is meant to be fun guys.. who's having fun now?

So why are you telling me how to take a corner when it does NOT even affect you? I was not the guy who put you in the gravel last weekend! I usually always indicate when overtaking. well mostly. All these people passing judgement when they weren't even there need to get over themselves! Gezzzzzz..... some people
Funny thing is... heres a few comments that I recieved in my reps dept
And I have changed none of the wording.

-A number of people in Auckland, feel some of these large grouped rides are heading for disaster. So please dont think all of us up here ride like that.
I know where they were in Coro, they are correct they would of had good visability, BUT cutting corners is a bad habit and will end in tears one day. I think your fighting a loosing battle. I wouldnt waste your breathe,
unfortunatly a large number of them are new members and new to biking. They may learn the hard way.

-More green! Seen too many riders who should know better doing dumb things and the newbies copying them

-Good posts. Some of these guys rode like idiots.

-Refreshing to see that I am not the only one that thinks crossing the centre
line is a bad idea.

Good on you for looking out for all KBers. I will keep these comments in mind on future rides. I will continue to enjoy riding at my own pace.

Anyone here remember Ronnie Smith?
The guy could wheelie anything, huge skills. I saw a vid with him and some mates in France, getting Busa's etc sideways out of every corner. They also showed him taking a cages wing mirror off with his shoulder at around 180 k's, he was over the centreline.
Ronnies dead now, hit a truck with his scooter.
Even the best die if they push their luck.

Not any of these guys, they're bulletproof!

and don't the road rules only apply to cars? after all motorcyclists are all such awesome riders with machine control far beyond that of the car driving peasants

got me fucked how any of them crash really:bleh:

Perhaps this pick shows a better veiw of just how much vis there was.
all those picks were taken with the zoom on because I could not get the field of vision I wanted.
Going into those corners a rider has at least 200mtrs of vision. I know I was there and took the pics!:slap:
How ever I do not condone crossing the centre line.......but lets face we all do at some time especialy if we have clear vision.:bash:

I must really start reading more of these North Island ride threads, missing out on oh so much. Glad you guys and gals have sorted your shit out, I can understand both sides of the arguement. Lets hear it for an overall decrease in numbers of riders binning it though! (I do realise that a couple were 'mechanical failures' of one sort of another, just hate hearing about poor innocent bikes being damaged. I can feel all their screams at night you know, makes sleep very difficult.)

Fuck me, this thread is great!!

Gaylander being told to go do what he loves best, South Africans being asked to buy drinks (fat chance!), bikers arguing about dumb shit that we're probably all guilty of at some point (yup, even me!), and lots of people slinging shit!!!

I love KB. It gets me through my working day with a grin.:killingme

Hehe, know that feeling. Felt the same way after my last wreck. Only reason I didn't was because there wasn't anything solid enough around and didn't feel like doing more damage to the bike. Also thought it would look cooler to the others around if I just acted like I was cool, not the seething ball of rage boiling just beneath the surface.
