Hey I have a CDI XL125 motor and was wondering how to build a CDI wiring loom for it because I know on most CDI bikes you need a battery to finish the system off but I do not want to carry a battery as they weigh alot more how do I get passed this problem cheers

Ivan

If you got any links would be appreciated

does it have a yellow wire and a white wire coming from the magneto? then you can set up a charging system....

also is there a wire coming from the motor probably black with a red stripe not sure for your motor that runs to the cdi?

better still tell me what color wires there are lol

also what are the wire colors from your cdi?

Ivan

hey mark they are black with a white strip coming from them same on the coil and also the coil has a blue wire with a white strip in it and a black wire coming out the motor to cdi

a little birdie on a website tells me to run the black wire from the magneto direct to the coil...doesnt say anything about a cdi ...guessing they took it out ....but still throw up some pics and we will make sure...don't really want to fry something aye :)

ivan.... the XL125 motor is a points ignition. no need for a cdi. there will be a black with a white or yellow stripe, that goes into your coil and then the coil gets earthed. If you want to run a CDI you will have to get the magnetos and point of pickups of an engine with the CDI system.

you would be better off to run the points set up and advance/retard the time of ignition to the area that the engine makes power.

Ivan --Not sure where you're going with this --you building a bucket motor??
If you are Id suggest using a bigger battery-the weight diffence wont matter a darn -then dump the charging system--the bike will rev heaps better

My mate Nathan has a bike minus the battery and that thing is a rocket ship every one tells me not to run batterys either and its also not weight it is room to hold a battery

Here we go, just gone out to my bucket. Its running a XL XR now 150 (was 125s) motor which runs cdi ignition. So take that RG, and go and make love to you rain forest destroying 2 stroke.

If you have the same cdi as me this is all you need.
1. No battery (pain in the arse and extra weight)

2.black/white(stripe) wire out of cdi unit goes to coil.

3.green & blue wires from cdi ignighter (on end of cam) goes to same colour wires on cdi.

4.black/red(stripe) out of stator will produce the power and that goes to the same colour wires on cdi unit.

5. The second green wire can be used for the kill switch.

I hope this helps ask any questions and go the Honda singles.:2thumbsup

Cheers,

I agree what did you do to yours to make it 150cc a kit or bore it out also what sort of mods are you doing to it to perform the 4 stroke Honda single motors are always good more reliable, plus I am a Honda sponsered rider so it dont look good racing a Suzuki:doh: I got a wicked Honda Race team shirt today for the nationals

Spud_Racer cheers will do that next week sometime once I get my RS125 gear box sorted

Im using a very short stroked xr185 barrel an piston using a modified xl100 crank and 125 rod. Seems to go ok, good torque, managed to drop red line by 1000-1500 rpm should be reliable. Ran a stock xl125s motor to learn how to ride. Managed to burgle 3rd outright down here in our winter series, next season is of concern with all the FXR's turning up, i can just keep a stocker at bay. Ill try and post a photo

Blow up well yes my RS did but that was at the end of that motors life Fall apart none of my Hondas have, Smokey when I start my RS but all 2 strokes are Rusty only if ya leave it in the salt water for a day:msn-wink: THINGS THINGS WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN THINGS

every one knows hondas are........ well everyone knows.

and, thats the second time your RS has broke in the last month. first the crank and now the box!! AH HA!!

and that 'honda', in my garage, is still waiting for parts from japan. not cause you sold it to me, but because its..... honda!!

where all my suzuki bikes (all four) are running perfectly, and if that 'honda CBR150' is so fast how come i lapped you on my "slow FXR" HUH!!

all in good fun buddy ;)

Yeah Gav I forgot and Kiwi Biker is a good place to get advice man, Geez always bitching and moaning your like a old grandma when someones poppin a skid on there lawn jokes I just like it here cause a bike shop will give me a way of building a complete loom not a basic loom you know

Ivan
11th December 2005, 16:26
Ok here is a dogy as MS Paint drawing my hand drawing one is better

The Coil:

coming out of the black box is a wire with two wire in it, one green one blue the green one turns into white and then is soldered with a black wire that goes directly into motor as drawn. The Blue is soldered into a black/white wire that is just dangling

The CDI:

has on the left a black/white and a green
the center black/white and a black/red
The right has blue/Yellow and a green all this is added into a dodgy drawing as well my hand drawn one is better

Buddha#81
12th December 2005, 18:14
hey Ivan, its just a homemade megaphone. No i wont be coming to Manfeild next year if you read my profile im married with two boys thats why I race a bucket. I'll will be going to the Nelson Street races on the 2nd Jan, there sould be a good bucket turn out, hope some of you north island poofta's are comming down.

Ivan
12th December 2005, 18:23
it a manfield bucket round only but o well

Ivan
12th December 2005, 20:17
Well I am going to go align the chain on the bike if I get a chance weld the mounts some stage get some pipe for the exhaust figure out an exhaust system and all that will be holding me back is the engine mounts when I make mounts I will take motor out and add the performance mods chuck it back in and be heading up to Manfield with it,

Hey Spud what ya using for a frame

Ivan
13th December 2005, 15:02
here are the pics camera is shite

pic 1 is CDI wires if you cant see em properly I will tell you what they are

Pic 2 Cam Wire? I think?

Pic 3 Stator wires

the others are it just mounted in frame bar it not being welded:slap:

Buddha#81
13th December 2005, 17:22
The blue and the green wires on pic 1 that are close together go to the cdi pick up on the end of the cam shaft.

There will be a black with white stripe that is your low tension feed to the spade terminal on the back of your coil.

Black with red stripe goes to the stator on the end of the crank (this my be the problem i think you may have a points motor).

Good luck, its bloody hard when you know what to do and trying to explain
how to is a chalenge.

Ivan
13th December 2005, 17:27
ah fuck I dont understand that either man I think it as a poo poo

Ivan
13th December 2005, 17:29

gav
14th December 2005, 19:08

Ivan
14th December 2005, 19:09
