I'd just like to boast about my christmas work "do" that we had yesterday.
WE GOT TO FLY IN A HELICOPTER!! :blip:
Hee hee, ok We flew to Pencarrow Lodge which is a 4 minute flight east from Wellington airport. To Pencarrow Point. Just west of cape Palliser. Oh it was soooo cool we had a mean lunch. Afterwards the bar was open and a big tab was put on.
Did some clay bird shooting. My first time shooting a gun i think I did bloody well 6 out of 8 the first time and 5 out of 6 the second time.

I tried to find a web site but they don't have one. :)

Are you sure it's not Pennsacola (as in the place in the U.S.) but named by a Japanese? in which case it would be Cape Parriser I suppose.:wait:
Glad you had fun and good one with the clay-birds. (they are shit to cook though and taste bloody awful)

I got a feeling you are talking of Pencarrow Lodge not far from Baring Head and not as far as Cape Palliser hence the 4 minute trip. Been there twice before and enjoyed the hospitality.

Flying in a helicopter is SO kewl, innit?
Our work do is always at Hotel du Vin, as it's one of the few places that can accommodate >80 people. We get bussed out there for the whole day in two buses, and as soon as we arrive, it's off to the bar. All drinks are paid for, plus snacks and a lunch, claybird shooting, archery, tennis, swimming, petanque, croquet, wine-tasting, etc.
B-o-o-o-r-r-r-ing! After having been there several times (4? 5?), it sucks a bit, especially having to spend the day 'relaxing' with workmates and managers. Last year, I just turned up at work, and buggered off after everyone left on the buses. Dunno what I'll do this year. The best year was when me and a workmate rode our bikes out there, the long way (round through Maraetai, Kaiaua, etc). Brilliant!

One of the major disadvantages of working for Te Wananga is that they will not provide booze at all. Social club put on a freaking gigantic bartab the other night, but I couldnt stay for very long *cry*.
Still at least the IT department always puts on a good do, even without booze.. This year were doing 10 pin bowling, laser tag, and dinner. Last year was go-karts and dinner.

Our social club had originally arranged that all the funds went on to beer and wine, there WAS going to be heaps of booze. Then we got new manager who does everything "by the book". It kinda annoys me cause the social club money is us the employees $$ and we should be able to decide where our funds go. Ah well thats life for ya!

Try being self-employed - NO work functions at all! I do some freelance work for the Manawatu Standard and was invited to 'morning tea' yesterday. Didn't bother going, why waste $10 of petrol for a free coffee (don't drink it) and some sandwiches and finger food? Considering they didn't even bother inviting any of us to the opening of their new building a few weeks ago, what's the point?
We've got our bike club end of year get-together this weekend so at least I get to go to one party! I'm going to have MY work function at home on Monday - buy a bottle of bubbly and some nibbles and watch myself on tv!

I would not subject a dog to my work do. Boss (Japanese) gets pissed out of his brain and struggles with English at the best of times so becomes more-or-less incomprehensible yet insists on making numerous rambling and incoherent speeches. In this he is aided by an elderly woman (our company secretary)who has worked here for over 30 years, every moment of which she has spoent sucking up. She sits beside him and basically tells him what to say. I think he is actually one of those ventriloquist's mannequins, and her arm is up his arse moving his jaws (but how she gets her arms and nose up there at the same time remains a mystery). There is lot of general fawning and sycophancy. Japs call it "goma suri". Brown-nosing. Rather than go again I'd rather stay home and get medieval on my own private parts with a blowtorch

I'm self-employed (with Mrs V) and in the same position. However I make every effort to attend all functions we're invited to by clients and suppliers - great networking opportunities - you never know who you might end up talking to! Been to three functions so far this week....
