The "BLING" thing

This thread is not a b*tch or a moan just thought I'd ask for people's opinions on the bling thing (site reputation). I like getting green rep., or bling as it is known, it makes me feel good. Or at least it makes me feel like I've contributed something worthwhile. As far as I am aware that is the extent of worth of "bling"? I ask this only because there seem to be more and more little 'buttons', principally in sigs, that say "curious?" or other such one word enticements to get the button clicked on. I mean no offence if you have one of these, I am just curious as to the reason for actively soliciting people to bling you? I say soliciting because it looks a little like bling whoring. Is it because people do not feel that what they have said is worthy by it's self? Or that they can get some self gratification to see their bling pile extend beyond others (piles)? Is there a bling ranking that I am not aware of?
It's all very perplexing although there must some simple explanation to all of this. Is this thread just a subliminal desperate cry for bling? Does my mother really love me?
I'm probably just old and don't know about this new exciting world of electronic life in a forum, so I thought I'd ask.

Na mate - I think it's one of those things - each to their own, some dish it out whole heartedly and some only for extraordinary efforts. As the recipient of bling it gives you an insight to how the issuer of the bling thinks...

basically the internet is here purely for my personal enjoyment and nothing else.

something that gets me is. when you have lots of rep, people are less inclined to give it to you.

for example. If posted something that I posted today 6 months ago I might of gotten 2-3 reps for it, but now its all about 'oh hes got enuf'

I don't think so. I believe I've asked some valid questions. There are people here who are all about "Bling". There have been some serious answers to a couple of questions I asked.

My point is, if it is bling you want go buy a "gold" chain and some "diamond" earings! I thought the point of the site was discussion and issues relating to the biking community. No it doesn't have to be solely about bikes but it's definately not all about bling.

personally, I have no idea why I've got so much. it's just me being me.
But, I do like to see what people appreciate about what I've said or contributed or done etc. Just makes it that bit more 'rewarding' to see that you've been recognised as doing something worthy. In the wrong light, it can be over-rated. And the red rep is often under used (sits back to watch the red roll in now). Red is only to put a personal note to say that you don't agree with what's said. It shouldn't be a personal attack. But it often is, and goes way over board. I've been on other forums that don't have rep/bling, and sometimes, you just want to give someone a virtual pat on the back. I think this is a good way of doing that, if nothing else..
