View Full Version : TRTNR - Wgtn ride 22/12/05

Rumour has it there is a ride this Thursday. Meet 6ish for 6.30pm mad f***ing dash Ghostrider-styles run from the Maungaraki carpark to the Maungaraki lights. Please remember to look both ways before exiting the carpark.
Strong possibility that the riders who make it through the intersection will be off for some hijinks before terminating at the Breakers pool hall (above grumpy hole). Unless a pursuit terminates it earlier. But we all know pursuits are never terminated - Skelstar's too quick for them girls.
AND... wait for it... this could be the week that we're graced by the presence of a VIP... unless there's weather. Any weather. Yeah, you know I'm talking about you!! :baby:

Got some fuzzy photos of you (no not from the fuzz) on Sunday but theyre not really worth bothering with. Theres some goodies in Zapf and BabyB's collections though.

You want to grow some nuts son. That tyre was from the track day and that loose rubber is probably been picked up from the track not layed down.

Bugjuice and I were just about to hit Frosty up for an upgrade to the fast group when the clouds turned up again so I got a couple slow laps in Med again in drizzle. Since we were pretty close we figured we'd head out at the back of fast and get in at least five clear laps before the hot guys caught us. To be honest, I'm not entirely sure I had a clear lap the whole trackday. Not that I'm saying I was the man, far from it, but there just always seemed to be someone in front on at least one corner that slowed things up a bit, either for me or for whoever I was following. Zapf had one pic, BabyB had a few. I'll need to hit her up for some high res ones. That tyre pic is from the last Manfeild trackday in Sept.

Ok, heres the thing. I was really looking forward to coming out tomorrow night with brand new tyres etc... but tonight my mate was taking his bike out to scrub in the tyres that were only just put on today and he binned it. He was ridng slowly and exiting a roundabout when his wheel slid out and he highsided. Thank god he is fine, grazed and sore but aoll good. The bike is semi ok, he bent his handle bar and broken mirror as well as a bit of cosmetic stuff.
This has kinda put the shits up me and im really thinking that I should give it a miss. I know, I know give me shit whatever. If im freaked out then Im gonna ride like shit and on new tyres it makes things 10 times more dangerous..... Sorry.

Ok, heres the thing. I was really looking forward to coming out tomorrow night with brand new tyres etc... butNo need to apologise - I'm actually impressed that you managed to find an excuse that you hadn't used before. Well done.
You could just turn up at 6, lend me the bike for five minutes to run up to the top of Maungaraki hill and back and by that time the tyres will be more scrubbed in than they'll ever be.
I went for a ride a couple weeks back on the end of the fast crew with a tyre 20kms old, 40mm chicken strips. I had no problems, no moments, no nuffin. Your mate must have just hit a bit of shite or white line or something.

Get your arse out there girl and stop being so supersticsious. New tyres are slippery, so what. And so's riding in the rain.
If your mate fell off on new tyres, he was doing something he shouldn't have been. I used to replace a set of tyres every three months and have never had an issue.
BTW, have a good Christmas H, catch up some day.

He has offered to look around for a decent "second hand" rear tyr as a loaner until the other ones arrived. At first I was feeling really pissed of, but then I realised that it kinda works a bit better for me!

<_< Ah get over it.
But yeah - on that last corner I did step out a bit eh?! Heh.
That was awesome trying to race the 250 though! Woah. Just shows that it's not necessarily the bike that limits how fast/well you ride at all. Which is quite a freeing (although kind of dissappointing) thought for everyone on little bikes!

What the **** are you Wellington people taking before you go out on rides. Its either causing mass hallucinations or making you all ride like nanas. It would be a cold day in hell or some sort of mechanical failure before I'd let some turkey on a GN400 get past me.

Maybe thats where you going wrong with your riding MB. Target fixation. You should be concentrating on where the apex and exit to the corners are not the butt of the rider in front.
So you were stuck behind a 250 and the 400 got away on you. I'd admit to taking the party pills or at least use it as an excuse.

Just to clarify...
It was a GN250. But he was a top NZ road racer so that's our excuse!
Also, this "wiggling" that madboy speaks of is loosley based on the fact that I had a 'moment' on a corner where the back end of the bike got a bit active. But yes - we're all so funny today... Hang on that smiley isn't meant to be smiling - this is better - :Pokey:

Maybe thats where you going wrong with your riding MB. Target fixation. You should be concentrating on where the apex and exit to the corners are not the butt of the rider in front.
So you were stuck behind a 250 and the 400 got away on you. I'd admit to taking the party pills or at least use it as an excuse.
you should come and watch him ride...I was sitting right behind him...laughing my fuckin head off....sure I could have past him....but why....I was watching a display of brillent riding
