View Full Version : Billy Connelly

Went to see him last night. I was a bit unsure about the show, I'd read a crap review and wondered if he'd lost it at the ripe old age of 61.
Au contraire, he was a riot. 2 3/4 hours of effing and blinding, prancing around like a teenager. Bloody hilarious.
His new theme is 'senior moments'.
He gave us heaps about Lord of the rings and Americas cup even slipped in a crack about our drivers.
He thinks that when someone overtakes us at passing lanes, we shouldn't take it personally. They're not insulting us or our cars and they don't want a race either.
Zed probably wouldn't have enjoyed him though, Billy gave religion, especially christians a major serve.
Well worth the bucks.

You're right Lou, I wouldn't enjoy his humor...and this is what God says to people like Billy:
I also will laugh at your calamity; I will mock when your fear cometh; When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: Proverbs 1:26-29

...and I guess the fact Billy has already lived to 61 and is probably as rich as hell your mate God has really acted on his promise or Billy hasn't needed to call him huh.
... and like all good religious people when someone is in distress and anguish he will not answer. Really charitable huh.

Billy was quite good in a serious role in The Last Samurai. Pity he died ;) No bikes in that movie though, usually Tom Cruise has at least 1 bike in each of his movies??

God is love, yes, but He is also a God of judgment! If a man scoffs and scorns God publicly and causes others to do the same then God must bring judgment on that man for his wrongdoing. Because God is longsuffering the executing of that judgment may not come immediately, it may be years later. Our lifetime is very short, and many aged people will testify to that, but God is not bound by time because He inhabits eternity!

I've seen quite a few movies where he has had a serious role - always very good. I think the mark of a great actor is when you forget who they really are. The only stoopid thing he ever did was that American sitcom that died a natural death. :thud: I haven't seen him live but I would love too

I wonder if God ever tires of humourless gits interpreting "His" word.
The Bible comes to us in English, via Latin and Greek from its original Aramic, and there are all sorts of people around who claim to know what it means.
You can't all be right.

How come there's no religion that preaches:
Thou shalt keep the gospel to yerself, unless asked....
Perhaps one of the resident Godbotherers could explain why God has guys on TV, dressed in Polyester Suits and bad haircuts asking for money on His behalf? Surely a truly omnipotent deity could summon up his own cash, and would have a better dress sense?

Hmmm, could get into this quoting biz. Here's my contribution to the spamming:
On my planet, to rest is to rest -- to cease using energy. To me, it
is quite illogical to run up and down on green grass, using energy,
instead of saving it.

Tell me, Zed, do you take this attitude to your Christian Forums?
Do you go to www.godbotheringdickheads.com and rave on about motorcycles? In discussions with subjects like "Boring the shit out of the Heathen" and "How to make a complete tit of yerself by quoting the bible incessantly", do you but in and rave on about bikes?
No?

Exactly, I've never seen so much religious shit from one guy in all my life and it isn't improving my perception of godsquadders one iota. I always thought the ones I met were mean-arsed intolerant up-tight types always with a sour look on their face with no sign of compassion and short of that fun in their eyes. Don't get me going on how they treated their spouses or partners either other than to say many are not together anymore. Zed, you going to prove me wrong by improving your ways on here? Everyone else I know treats humans humanely and doesn't say they will be struck down for having that opinion, whether it be now or some time into the future. They (particularly the bikers I know) are tolerant and helpful and caring, what's wrong with you religious dudes can't you see the error of your ways and be like that too?

Now here's an interesting thing:
Heathen
(Heb. plural goyum). At first the word _goyim_ denoted generally all the nations of the world (Gen. 18:18; comp. Gal. 3:8). The Jews afterwards became a people distinguished in a marked manner from the other _goyim_. They were a separate people (Lev. 20:23; 26:14-45; Deut. 28), and the other nations, the Amorites, Hittites, etc., were the _goyim_, the heathen, with whom the Jews were forbidden to be associated in any way (Josh. 23:7; 1 Kings 11:2). The practice of idolatry was the characteristic of these nations, and hence the word came to designate idolaters (Ps. 106:47; Jer. 46:28; Lam. 1:3; Isa. 36:18), the wicked (Ps. 9:5, 15, 17). The corresponding Greek word in the New Testament, _ethne_, has similar shades of meaning. In Acts 22:21, Gal. 3:14, it denotes the people of the earth generally; and in Matt. 6:7, an idolater. In modern usage the word
denotes all nations that are strangers to revealed religion.
I discovered I am a heathen in the true sense of the word: "...the practice of idolatry".
For this is my born again calling:
I am an idolator! -
Praise my idols!
Bow to Pine Tree!
Blessed is the mighty Waikato Rugby Team!
Lift your eyes to Scuderia Ferrari!
Blessed is the Big Schuey!
Praise the big single!
O yea, and blessed be the folks at Lion Nathan, as they bring forth Waikato Draught, and it is good!!!!!
Here endeth the lesson.
Go in peace my people......

Zed probably uses a concordance. Just not too sure where Billy Connally's name is in there but zealots like Zed see themselves as God's judges and quote scripture to convince themselves of their own righteousness.
I once sat next to a young Morman who was going back home after his two years missionary work in New Zealand. This was on flight to America. This poor soul could not give an opinion on anything with out quoting from the bible. Oh I tell a lie. He had just found out that his girlfriend had just married his best friend and was down in the dumps. I told him to go to a bordello and enjoy himself for once in his life. Never did find out if he took my advice.
