Ha...this sounds a bit egotistic but heres the story:

Was wandering through the supermarket in my motorcycle gear, just doing grocery shoppping (eye out for hot single mums)...when a ~5yr old boy about 4m away says/yells to his mum (not hot) "awesome!!!....that guys AWESOME!!!".

I kept my stony visage but was feeling great (and a bit fake). I know Im not [that] awesome but it gave me a bit of a boost. Maybe when I was his age I thought motorcyclists were awesome too? Have I inadvertantly reached my iconic peak already at a tender age of 33? :niceone: Go me.

Makes me think that if I saw a Ferrari at 5yrs old, I would have though "awesome, that CAR is awesome!!!"...I wouldnt have thought about the guy/girl/metrosexual inside.

go Skelstar!! LOL. wish i got that reaction in the supermarket...mostly it's just little kids going "mummy why's that girl got a motorbike?". Although I did once have some dude come chat to me o/s the supermarket about how great looking my bike was, and ok, so he was drunk at the time, but hey, a compliment's a compliment right?? sigh.

All kids think we're awesome!

Give them a couple of year to develop their smart mouths and then see what they're saying though.

I try to avoid going too many places in my leathers for this very reason.
Too many people thinking/saying you are awesome makes your head swell and then when you get back to your bike your helmet doesn't fit......happened a few times.
Usually I just take my leathers off and it gets a lot more comments of an unfriendly nature such as......"yuck put em back on skinny white boy", "you suck" etc which quickly shrinks your head back to normal size. Have to be careful though or it gets too small.

I love it when little kids do that and they ask you questions while their mum is trying to drag them away. I love it cause I was that little boy when I was younger. I thought motorbikes were the coolest things ever!! Prob a major reason why I've got one today

These kids are the bikers of tomorrow!!

Better than the reaction my husband got in the supermarket one day - this kid was sitting in the trolley in front of us at the checkout and he turned around and started yelling "daddy!" at the top of his voice! No, we didn't know the kid and no, my husband didn't have any dark secrets he was hiding! I don't know who was more embarrassed, him or the kid's mother!

I did have this smart arsed kid say to me once "hey lady, do you ride a motorbike?" When I said I did, he said "well, you're a fucking idiot!" Lovely!

These kids are the bikers of tomorrow!! Exactly right mate. Is pretty cool when a kid gets his/hers jollies :spudflip:. And to think that by simply walking through a supermarket could influence a kid is wicked. Oh I remember when:scooter:

Some smart arse pissed fool was muttering under his breath about idiots wearing leathers with knee sliders to a pub (pool room) a few weeks ago. It's not like it's a posh pub or anything.

Considering that TRTNR practically take over the pub on a Thursday night, I though this was a bit brave, but then again, he was saying it very quietly.

He was also dissing comments made by some of the KBer's so when I heard him talk to his mate about how awesome CBR1000's were, I put my 2c worth in and ended up having a good conversation with him.

Can't understand why the need for the snide comments earlier though....jealousy perhaps that he no longer has a bike ?

He was actually saying he was close to punching one of the 'knee slider wearers.

Instant arsehole, just add alcohol.

Mrs H and I were parked up outside the cafe where we were sipping our caffeinated beverages one day (as you do), when this brand new Mercedes Benz SUV/truck monstrosity thing pulls up. Dad with the spikey hair, untucked shirt, knee-length shorts and roman sandals look gets out, walks around to the rear passenger door and helps his son out of the his booster seat. Son (aged about 4 or 5) takes one look at our bikes and says "Look, daddy. Motorbikes!!!" with great excitement. As dad walks past us with child in hand I said "I bet he didn't get that excited when you bought the Merc". Stoney silence...

There is something special about kids and their affinity with motorcycles!

I thought it was normal..Guess it depends how much of the CibbyRack is protruding.

I recall some kid looking at my bike while I was parked up testing the battery one day, this was my old FZR400.
"Wow, cool bike man". "Thanks"
"How fast does it go?" "About 190ish" [Jappa with a governer]
Disapproving look from the mother
"Really? Wow - that's reeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaal fast!!" Silence
"So how d'you know it goes that fast?"
Mother and I exchange looks, me smiling, her not, kid gets put back in car.

Cause my bikes a little on the loud side I often get dirty looks from adults and the elderly, sometimes even a fist or a "slow down" signal.. Kids cheer, its so funny! I quite often get smaller kids waving, there so cute I just have to wave back!

i think its kind of funny when you are sitting next to a car at the lights and a little kid in the back sees ya and waves to ya and then the arents tell the kid not to wave at the big bad motorcycle man, wish those parents would get a grip

quite often got waved at by kids overseas. only once or twice over here. but yeh, kids are the bestest, so are disabled adults and some elderly. quite often read about elderly whos dream was to go on the back of a harley, same with disabled people. friends overseas with trikes often do rides...one even managed to take the kids airpack on the back, lol.

I think dogs' reactions are more fun than kids'. I've tried to work out if it's only male dogs, or if female dogs are the same, but unless I actually stop & look I'll just keep guessing. Some dogs are blase about bikes & don't look, some keep walking & watch & some stop to look. And then you have the ones in trucks & cars. Some get totally intent on watching/barking at the bike.
I get plenty of waves from kids, but usually only the primary aged ones.
We were at a mx a while ago & one kid waved to me every time he went around (I was there flagging but couldn't help cheering him on). I think that was the cutest as he used his throttle hand to wave.
Elderly women seem to be the keenest to have a chat outside the supermarkets about bikes. They don't seem to see us as the scum of the earth.

Yep it is normal, well for us cruiser riders anyway don't know bout you sprot bike riders...:bleh:

Guaranteed every ride I go on through traffic or wander through a shopping area etc in my gear kids take notice, get excited and point me and the bike out to their folks or mates.

The underlying form of Cruisers just scream "MOTORCYCLE!" in a way other bikes can't.

Of course this is diammetrically opposed to the underlying form of sports bikes which scream "speed!". So each to their own....

Even had it happen to me for the short while I had the Savage. I pulled up to the Give Way and a cage + mum & kids go by. One kid in the back seat had his face mashed to the glass grinning at me and giving the thumbs up. He's garaunteed to be waiting for a mullet!

Yeah... I've had that a few times. Once a nice granny, about to get into her car started approaching, with me all in my leathers, and I though "Oh 'ello wots this gonna be about then?"

All she wanted to know was if her grandson could sit on the bike 'cause he was fascinated. So I said "yeah, of course" they both got a kick out of that, I went away feeling all warm & fuzzy and the image of the biker community was improved...Sweet!

I live right next to a school.

Every morning on pull out the drive and there is the school crossing.
most of the time its leather jacket on am work pants and boots.

all the kids at the crossing just stop and watch me take off. hear some of them saying stuff about bikes and look at the bike to each other. If the bike is warm will give abit of a handfull in first and the kids love it. The teachers on duty tend to give the od dirty look .

One time i pulled up to Church and this girl comes up to me and out of the blue goes my uncles bike is better than your bike and faster to i was like :p to you too.

The number of times soccer mom has her kid in a SUV and the kid has his nosed pressed against the glass grinning and all I want to do is pop a wheely.

Now THAT would be Awesome.

Kids are great like that, Wife and I normally ask / will let the kids sit on the bikes (subject to parental approval of course) , we try and encourage the next generation of motorcyclists.
We also ask the kids who has the best bike because it's a chance to poke a bit of shite at each others bikes. Kids can be funny in this regard too, sometimes they'd look at the wife’s GSX600f and my duc and ask , why is your wife’s bike bigger than yours and the boys would think that’s real funny.
The other kid way of comparing bikes is by looking at the speedo's ....Wow that bike goes up to 300 kmh .... cool (yeah right in my case)

Was driving down Queen Street yesterday afternoon around 5 ish, while I was waiting at the intersection of Queen & Mayoral Drive, I watched a guy cross the road & continue walking down queen street, he was wearing all the retro & coolest things he could find to complete his attire.... including a race formed leather bike jacket, bent armored elbows, high waist line, hunched back.... one of the stupidest things I've seen. But the main thing... he thought he looked cool, man could he strut :) "And there is no way he was a biker"

Get the best reactions riding on the Motorway, slowly cruisin past cars with kids in. Gives them time to make eye contact, (little difficult for me with the helmet on at times), but they love bein able to stare at you and watch the bike. Then:apumpin: I gas it and let them hear the exhaust blat! If I slow down again for traffic and they cach up, they grinnin from ear to ear!
