after a day of wind and rain yesterday, today has dawned lovely and sunny with wind. doesnt seem too bad now, but has been getting strong and then dropping off again. perfect day for the races...was sure it was going to be messy after the weather yesterday and for the past week.

It was a lovelly day. I wasnt in leathers (jeans) and idnt have a leather jacket but I imagine that the weather was mercifully cool enough for it not to be too uncomfortable.
Thanks for arranging the weather SH :).

I shat the bed at 0530 hours here in the naki. Bugger me, it was still raining here at home! I quickly decided to leave the CBR at home and ride the TT down to Wanganui, due to its better handling in the rain. Donned the wet weather gear and I was off at about 0700 hours. It became apparent that the weather was clearing and the frount was going the almost opposite of the direction I was travelling. By the time I was in Stratford, I was really wishing that I had brought the sprotbike. However I think I enjoy riding the trail bike just as much. Made my day when I passed a semi- modern sprotbike on the way down. Looked like a timid rider who might not have known the road. Gave him a wave and he followed for awhile but with a mix of traffic and slower courners, that rider disappeared. I got to the cuircit rather early and was the 7th person in the secured parking area that the Triumph crew was running. Tell ya what it was the best 10 dollars I spent on the day, the bbq sasauge and backon on bread was what I needed for breakfast (which I had forgotten about) cheers! Got to have a good look around and I was quite impressed with the layout. Saw some familiar faces and went up to all the people with KB colours on and introduced myself. It was great talking to you all and I hope our paths cross again. I do know that as soon as I'm back at work, I'm applying for leave for the next years race day. Coming back was uneventfull, until I passed a large blue Cagiva with two people on it. I waved, but got a finger in return. Made me laugh though, made me more determined to keep the nana rider behind me, whoever it is, thanks for complying and not putting the hammer down:killingme Got a few pictures, would have taken more, but the batteries went flat and I did not bring more:doh:

What a great day. I wasn't going to go but when you are awake at 4.30am you just got to stop and think about the day. So on with the gear and off to meet the others at 7. Great ride from Hastings with no tickets or any other crap. Glad I took my 2.5 litters of frozen water with me. With that and the hat I feel good now but I saw some very nasty sun burn around the track. A few people will be sorry now. Meet some KBer's as I went around the track. Great to have the shirts and it was cool to put some faces to names. Great ride home. Two and a half hours. Darn it was a nice ride home. Thanks to the KBer's I rode over and back with. Big thank you to Grumpy and his wife. You guys rock and to be able to put the gear in a motel room for the day and use the loo at the end of the day was soooooo good. They deserve a DB.
Time to sleep. This is a great place to be part of. I look forward to reading other reports.

I saw you there gixxer4eva I think. Well, someone had a kiwibiker shirt on with that written across the front of it. I was just about in introduce myself but then I got caught in a conversation with others and by the time I turned round you were gone. Fantastic day racing. Loved the big bikes playing. I could watch those guys on one wheel all day. Had to take the car but the trirp home wasn't too bad. Got pretty jealous of all the bikes lane splitting as I sat in my place in the queue. Was well impressed with that GSX 56. What a great job he did!
If my body didn't hurt so much I would have gone for a ride tonight but there you go. Early night for this young lad me thinks.

didnt get to see any of the races except the 3rd to last with all the top riders in it. spent most of the day in the fridge stocking up drinks and heating pies. so....many.....pies........ saw part of the first sidecar race [love those things!!] and thats about it. didnt even really hear the bikes cept for the dirtbike ones....the real loud ones, lol. lots of bikers inside though, so was good to be surrounded by family, though i bet 98% didnt even realise! [2% being the kbers i spoke too.]
all in all, thanks to the majority of the people that came in and caused no trouble, and for being patient when things stuffed....the tills and the coffee machine. was a good day.

Yep that was me. With my L&P bottleof frozen water.
Yep Craig is the man. The bike I ride at the moment, on the road, is the one he raced in the the 96-97 Battle of the streets. GSX-R 750V. It has a few bent bits cos Craig dropped it at speed when he had it. So for that reason alone I tend to follow what he is doing and it was so good to see how smooth and even he was today. I recon he is getting better as time passes. Sorry to hear you had to take the cage. It was such a nice ride today. My ears are a bit red and with the ear plugs in the for the radar thingy, on the way home, I realised I needed a bigger hat. Hope to meet you next time.:Punk:

Yeah mint day guys, just got back now. Really hot, really sunburnt and really sore. Such a short stop/start circuit it is quite physical. Good to meet heaps of kber's too. Seemed that every time you looked around there was a t-shirt to be seen.
Results weren't too bad, two smoker carved up in f3, I managed to get 2 20's and qualified 21st for the final invitational race but decided that i'd pack up for the day.

Sorry to bring up this nasty topic.
But does anybody know how Peter MacDonald is getting on?
He had an accident and was taken away by ambulance. I only heard about it over the loudspeaker. Everybody I spoke to had no idea how he was.
Best wishes Pete on a quick recovery and here's hoping it's nothing major.
For those of you who don't know - Pete's a good chap, salesman for Wellington Motorcycles and long time motorcycle racer.

Sidecar hit the bales and flipped opposite the pine tree hill. Marshalls stood and gaped like fuckwits as the guy lay under the bike. Two motards tangled over the bridge, one escaped , one hit the wall. A couple of zx10r's wiped out on the bridge too. Lowe one of them. New record when sherriffs broke 59 secs. (on a 6) Triumph and Matchless sidecars were competing for the wildest corner entry. Mcewen, Stroud, Love etc.. were scary fast all day. Weather hot. Plenty of chicky babes. Two 17 year old cops strolling around. The odd joint getting smoked. No aggresive drunks. Cruisy crowd. Two weasel parasite muftis slithering around the roads on the way home.

The should be he broke 50 sec mark. brilliant piece of riding too. I don't hang round racetracks and don't know any of the riders but on the first lap of his first race I told my wife to look out for that number 56 cause he looked like he knew what he was doing. Good show too.

Great day with Kiwibikers out in numbers. Only complaint was the weather forcast was all up the crap and ended up getting a bit sunburnt.
Motard numbers seem to be getting out of hand and they qualify for so many classes. eg if you have a KTM you can ride in Bears/F3/Motard. I like Motards and the racing but although they lap at the same speeds as F3 bikes they just don't look like they should be there.
Craig Sherriffs was the man dominating both F1 and F2 and creating a new lap record, first under 50 seconds. Stroud and Sherriffs battled in most races. Jason McEwen was riding well leading the first Robert (b4 anyone else starts a career in proof reading) Holden 15 lapper for serveral laps.
Terry Fitzgerald was in a class of his own in F3. And Shawn Donnelly was unbeatable in post classics on his Z1000.
Only got a few pics then my camera battery died but here they are:

Thanks I always seem to make slips like that. Maybe its some sort of subconsious thing to see if anyone actually reads my posts. Being your age and from Manawatu you'd know who John Holden is right?
I was actually standing beside someone that was calling Andrew Stroud Aaron Slight. And I slipped up and breifly thought the Australian 600 rider with J on his bike was Jason McEwen.
You can spot the ones with to much free time on here:brick:

We were in the same motel as the guy who was clerk of the course for the day and he was telling us that the worst injury was a broken ankle for Lance Lowe. Alot of spills but nothing serious.
Thanks for the company over Gizzer. I was kinda glad we decided to stay the night. Was a little buggered by the time we got back to the room. Had a good ride back today although there was still a few cops lurking.

Hey guys, awesome racing to watch, was great to be there however didnt have much luck. Will post a race report soon
Cheers everyone who came and supported and nice to meet some new kb'ers. Best part was hearing about TS's 3rd place in the Robert Holden Memorial race.. shit dude you are untouchable on that thing!

. Hooked up with SPman after trying to use him as a Berm on the way home . . Well - yes - you had quite some velocity on - bit of a fright when you think - "will I pass these 2 bikes before this corner or not, check your mirror and see a fuckin guided missile looming up large...!Still havent got my corner confidence back up yet, but good to meet up with you, Scott.
I bimbled up from Palmy and wandered around - saw lots of KBers around - finally met Dangerous, Rashika and Kickaha (and Joni), after riding from Paraparam to outside Palmy with them, the day before...saw lots of the Welly crowd around in various places, Inlinefour, Eman, Scroter, Sudeep and others.Good to catch up with Mitch again.
Anyone know exactly what happened to Lance Lowe - the guy I was talking to said he had made contact with another bike which bent his brake lever out - when he went to grab the brake for the bridge - oops - he missed it!
Was pissed off (along with several hundred others, at being stuck in the inside, when they didnt open the crossing gates for over an hour!!! Not good, organisers - if they hadnt opened them after the bin in the F3 race - there would have been a bloody riot! But - some good racing - Kirk - you were going well - did you have a bit of a coming together with another bike in Holden corner, there? Chris was going well - hard to tell where he was placed though, with all the bloody motards in F3 though. And Logan was not being totally disgraced on the "still 400". Good to see Jason get out and go in the first RH memorial race - almost back to his old form, and Shirriffs..!!!
The sunburnt feet were not really welcomed, however...:violin:

Not quite, he's good, but don't think he's good enough to keep up with the guys on 1000's and 600's on his 400. Came 3rd in the invitational for the fastest 40 qualifiers after the 30 that qualified for the robert holden memorial.

He's a bit OK. Gotta have surgery on his ankle, dislocated elbow or shoulder or some such shit.
Serves him right for being amonst other riders. Shoulda been way out in front.

He's a bit OK. Gotta have surgery on his ankle, dislocated elbow or shoulder or some such shit.
He had surgery on Boxing Day night, on his ankle. No bone grafts, thank goodness, but this accident on top of previous injuries meant that the surgeons had their work cut out for them. The suspected dislocated elbow turned out not to be, although he'd obviously taken quite a whack to it because it was very swollen. Not sure what the story was with his shoulder & I think I heard mention of ribs, but can't confirm.
Mitch stayed in Wanganui and will be driving him back to Wellington once he's been released.
Nice to catch up with so many KBers. :) Those t-shirts are way easy to spot in a crowd & they were everywhere!!!
The Man qualified 38th in F3 & finished his first race in 35th position. He didn't manage to start his 2nd race, thanks to leaving the fuel tap on after the 1st race & hydrauliking the valves with excess petrol. Mitch got out there, but #47 lost all its get-up-and-go, so she pulled back into pitlane when the red flag was waved.
The Man spoke to Jason McEwan who was absolutely rapt with his 2 3rds in the Robert Holden Memorial races. They were apparently "as good as a 1st place finish" in his mind. We were sure cheering him on from the sidelines, that's for sure!!! :D
It was a great day, but The Man has decided not to race there again. It's a really long day for just 2 races, so you'll see us there next year on our bikes, as spectators. Probably very drunken spectators. ;)
