"We have analyzed this software and have determined that in order to help protect our customers, we will add a detection and removal signature for the rootkit component of the XCP software to the Windows AntiSpyware beta, which is currently used by millions of users," Jason Garms, group program manager of the Anti-Malware Technology Team, said on Microsoft's Technet blog (http://blogs.technet.com/antimalware/archive/2005/11/12/414299.aspx).

Norton wouldn't be able to remove malware/spyware or any other ware even if a first year wrote it. Horrible program you fork out big money for that does a shitty job.

Norton does stuff when you don't want it too and doesn't when something is wrong best bet i went with is mcafee which blocks EVERYTHING

Never a truer word spoken.
I got some nasty virus a year ir 2 back, and Norton ignored it, and never detected it, but when someone suggested I try AVG, which was free, AVG picked it up within the first 10 seconds of scanning.

Yep, AVG is good. But none of them will pick up everything. NOD is one of the better ones but it is expensive. If you can run 2 different antivirus systems, that would be best. But the first one you install will often block the 2nd

I read somewhere the uninstaller installs something else which can't be uninstalled.
This tool might be safer: http://www.microsoft.com/security/malwareremove/default.mspx

Norton also has this neat habit of fucking with your registry and not un-installing completely.
