I'm just wondering, except for people who are coming over here in the short term and ex-pats, why do people from other countries read/post on a New Zealand motorcycling forum??

i post in a few groups on msn....mainly american, but also canadian as well. i do it to learn about other countries and different view points etc. i also use them to build friendships whereby i can use the other person as "homebase" should i ever travel to that country....i have used it successfully for 6 months, lol. also ideal to learn where decent places to visit and sights to see might be. "virtual tourist" lol.

also good if they post photos...one guy lives in florida, and he posts photos almost daily that hes taken on his morning ride...great to see whats out there.

I suspect at least some of the overseas posters google a particular subject, and KiwiBiker is included in the hits they get.

well it's like this; the interweb thingy, that works ALL over the world, so sometimes, when people in japan, or america, or even australia are bored, they use their computer to send lights and special messages to other computers, and if they like BIKES, then the little web spider will show them this corner of the web, and they can read all about how hard done by we are here in enzed, especially with those nasty police officers, and those road guys that are too lazy to mark where gravel has spilt onto the road, or those auckland yuppies that buy houses in the country, and are too lazy/poor/dumb to seal thier driveway, so thier flash suv brings dirt onto the road. anyway, sometimes too, people from new zealand get onto these big flash things called AEROPLANES, and fly (well the aeroplane flys - the people just sit inside it) to other places in the world, usually landing at an airport, and then visiting family or other friends (if they have any) or just hanging by themselves and picking up drunk english birds at dodgy mediterranian resorts, but that's another story.....

on the other hand, maybe they think it's a dating site........

I post in forums in Oz, the UK and USA.
All have international membership because two are model specific and one "the Aussie one" is just an interesting place that I can relate to, having lived there an REALLY enjoyed myself doing so.
Plus on all of them I'm 6'3 130kg and better looking than any of you lot.

Mate - I'm lucky enough to see a lot of the world as part of my job. There are very few places as developed and laid back as NZ. You usually get one or the other. The only thing we lack is a decent amount of history (we're a young nation)...

... but we're workin' on it!

As a nation "New Zealand" as in.

You make a good point though... I think something I (personally) notice is that I (personally) have no realy history that I can look back on, unlike the Maori...

Or the French (when in France) or the Germans or... you get the idea.

I did mean the national of New Zealand - is there another I should be aware of?

Nice avatar btw. Keore (sp?) is it - does it bite?

Please?

Many be its the only one they can find thats any good.

Funny you should say that... years ago, I was a regular on the old UBG forum. Then that all went a bit awry after the magazine it was the website for was taken over... and shortly after the forum was closed.

A bunch of us then moved to a couple of other forums, before stopping a while in Ridesite. Which was fine for a time until lots of in-fighting developed and owners started accusing others of all sorts of stuff. So we moved on again.

Odd place to stop was a classic motorcycle website, bearing in mind none of us actually owned a classic! Spent ages in there, before a fall-out with a certain regular who thought he owned the place (and was quite chummy with the genuine owners). Too many arguments, so off I went.

So... sorry the tale is getting lengthy - a short time before that I'd started my own website (as the magazine job looked like it was coming to an end... only took another 2 years!) and set up a news page. One of the other guys that had moved about from the old UBG forum suggested KB would be a good place to make the news available to a wider audience (actually, it was both Moko and Wari if memory serves correctly)... I agreed and started up the Biker News section.

And what is heading for 2 years later, I'm still here!

So there you go - very much a case of finding a square peg for a square hole... or something.

Well, ex-pat and like to laugh a bit, which I why I put up with you lot, as well as the Poms on the VFR group, they're a riot too. You can really wind them up about rugby and sheep and, uummm, what....., no, not sheep...other stuff.
Plus I'm coming back for a visit next month and hope to hook up with a couple of you when I'm there for a beer.
It's the internet, it's global, and it's sort of all what you make it.
Cheers
