Well I can finally afford to get myself some proper boots.
I've got $300, maybe a little more. I've had a little look in the shops but I'm not really sure. I want to get some fairly sporty ones but they gotta last for quite a while.
Anyone got any recommendations for brands or particular models? Won't be doing alot of walking in them, so I'm really too worried if they're uncomfortable in that respect.
Your help is appreciated

Got mine for $300ish. Check them out on TRTNR (weather permitting I guess).
They are Oxtar TCS's I think.

Got some Gaerne Aquatech's. They're meant to be waterproof and guess what - they actually are!!! Only reason my feet got wet on the ride to Taupo for the KB track day in December is cos the water trickled down my legs into my boots. They've got plastic all over them so they're kinda funky to walk around in, but personally, I don't want to go losing bits of me so armour is my friend. $280.00 (found a place later that was about $15 cheaper dammit)

I've got Stylemartin Stormy road boots - brilliant. Really comfortable, can wear them all day, to ride in, walk in, stand around in, whatever. 100% waterproof, it's not just what the add says, they really don't leak. I've had them 7 years now.
Stylmartin don't seem to make this model anymore, but I'll be buying another pair of something from this manufacturer when the time comes. They have 13 different models ranging in price from $229 tp $449 accoring to their add in the current kiwi Rider mag.

I think mine are forma revenge too. Around $300. I wouldn't describe them as uncomfortable, I guess cowpoos is used to fluffier slippers than me. But they're certainly at the "showerproof" end of waterproof.

I've got some as well and I'm happy with mine. They aren't uncormfortable and I've yet to get wet or even damp feet even after riding for several hours in 120km+ rain.

i've got gaerne aquatechs - VERY waterproof, but can get a bit hot in this weather we're having. awesome in the cold though - don't have to wear socks even. they are well protected around the heel (i'm a bit paranoid about breaking chain injuries) and have large openings for ease of entry/exit.

check out the motomail outlet store in kingsland, they had some sidi boots there around the $330 price, normally about $450 but as its an outlet store now, they have some cheap end of line stuff, so if your lucky, they might have your size.

I've got a pair of Northland specials...John Bull kaka style with a ummmmm "bit" off the toe :innocent:
I'd buy some proper riding boots if I could fit the buggers though. Problem being is that I've got wide feet and a high in-step.
Advice please people...:niceone:

Stylmartins. I've had my Stradas for around four years now, and they're still good. They were comfy from the moment I bought them, they're waterproof, and they're not too hot in summer or too cold in winter. Even crash-tested them a couple of years ago (wrote of my bike when a car U-turned into me) and the ankle cups (both sides) and heel cup saved my ankle from injury.

If you don't get fully waterproof boots (eg motox boots) and intend to ride in the rain then get some overboots / gaters (I think motomail does them) really cheep and you will not get wet feet.

Cheers for the info guys. Sounds like Gaerne or Oxstar are at the top of the list. Had a look at both of those in the shops but I didn't really know.
Skel, I'll have a look at yours if thats ok. Don't know if I'll be going to TRTNR the way the weathers going, but the newbie rides on Sunday if your going on that.

I'll second Lou... but then I got them from him too.
On an AMPS sale day, I got them for about $280-290. And these are also actually waterproof, having had no leaks so far in several months (whenever the last sale day was) of constant use.

OK. My Oxtars were wet when I got home today, but thats OK cause I think New World sell a 'bag kit' for them so they will seem dry in the morning.

i use rebs i think....$160-ish from cash convertors. they look like cowboy boots and leak a little in really heavy rain. proir to that was steel toed grizzlies courtesy of my partner in canada. havent worn them since the crash though since i cant get my foot in the boot. they did save my foot though...both pairs come about halfway to my knee.

I have the same boots and they really are waterproof! They are a touring boot so the armour is internal rather than plastic bits on the outside but that suits me.
I'll buy Stylemartins again, the Tourneo look like the replacement model (RRP $339 in the KR adverts)

Nah, they're fine as far as safety goes. But they're not as comfortable as road boots, especially if you walk much in them or stand around too much, and they don't tend to be as waterproof. I use Thor Quadrant boots off road.

Well, yeah that would probably be true on a sportsbike. I've only worn them on the DR. They certainly have bugger all flex in them, which is fine on a dirt/adventure bike.

Trials boots are a little lighter and less restrictive than MX boots, not bad to walk in,more water resistant...but still offer far more protection than a road boot.

I have a pair of Style Martin Tourist Plus's. Done me well for 5 years now, and still water proof (As I found at Manfeild yesterday). I have almost worn the sole all the way through. I put a woolen innersole in them shortly after getting them, and find them warm and comfortable. Think they stung me $400 though.
As for Motox boots on the road, well they are worst than combat boots, there is no feel through the pegs. I like to feel that the balls of my feet are on the pegs, but that may be just me (and Aaron Slight).

I have Gaerne X2's they are really not too bad to walk in, I did 10 km's in them once. THey can be Interesting if it gets slippy because they have no grip.
almost waterproof (thanks to the gunk i slap on to them once a year)
but on my cbr they were uncomfortable until I moved the foot controls down a notch.
If I were riding a sprots bike full time then I would not wear mx boots. But as the CBR sold yesterday, I ain't bothered :)

Bought some Gaerne Aquatechs today, they are pretty comfortable to walk around in and look pretty cool. Set me back $350 though  Bit weird changing gear now cos I can't really feel the lever, I'm getting used to it tho.

Damn, and I thought I paid too much @ $280.00 (found a place that was cheaper than that next day dammit)
I found they felt really wierd on the bike cos, like you say, I couldn't change gear properly. But the second time I went out for a decent ride they felt perfectly natural and comfortable and now I wouldn't be without them.
Your first rain ride you won't regret getting them at all. Provided you can stop water running down the inside of your pants into the boots you'll laugh at everyone else. Letting your extremities (feet, hands and head) get cold will make you freeze in no time.

Don't tell me I paid too much!!! I don't wanna know!!!Crap. I'm just gonna stay out of bike shops for a while cos I've spent so dam much on gear, if I see the same thing cheaper I think I will shoot myself.
But yeah the first time I got on the bike with them I couldn't change up gears to save myself, and next thing you know, there was a fucker revving his engine beside me at the lights... not being one to let these guys away with it, I promptly nailed the throttle, got to about 10,000 revs in first, went to change into second, and let go of the clutch...
Turns out I had left it in first... rear wheel locked up at 50k...
BIGBADWOLF'S TIP OF THE DAY:
Don't be an idiot at the lights after you buy Gaerne Aquatech boots at a much inflated price.
BIGBADWOLF'S TIP OF THE WEEK:
Getting laughed at by a bunch of skinheads in a Nissan Skyline is, perhaps, worse than buying Gaerne Aquatech boots at a much inflated price.
