Yamaha buy back on 06 r6's

Yamaha are offering to buy back 06 r6's from customers due to there dodgy ads saying it would rev to 17500rpm

I guess did this to stop being sued

from what i read on the r6 forums (yeah i know its a bit biased) it seems that all manufacturers fudge the rpm by around 5% give or take and yamaha just took it a little bit further with this. i don't really see what the problem to be honest. if thats the sole reason you bought the bike then you have some major issues. im still gonna buy one

would be stoked if you'd done about 5000kms or so. get the money back and go buy another brand new one, lol.

Good on Yamaha, they fucked up, they admitted it, and now they're stepping up to put it right. Full credit to them, I hope it doesn't burn them too much.

and considering Yamaha's operating profit was around 22 billion euro for 2005, i don't think buying a few NZ$15000 bikes back is going to hurt them too much

I don't know if the error was entirely accidental.
In the race to provide the trickest specs in the extremely competitive 600cc market, Yamaha spun some yarns (otherwise known as false advertising) to make their 600 stand out from the pack for those riders who like numbers on paper.
10 out of 10 for stepping up, admiting that they are lying basts, but minus several million for trying to bullshivers their customers in the first place.
Having said that, the new R6 looks the bollocks with plenty of trick bits and sure... I'd have one!
Can't they do a CPU fix thingee. Flash the ROM or something so it reads right?

Best reason ever for having final advertising clearance done by the Engineering department.

The R & D department I used to work in at an OEM PC manufacturer did just this sort of thing (having the technical types check the advertising) to stop the company from getting it's arse sued. I could never decide which are the bigger criminals, Marketing or Lawyers.

i think the bigest con is the mags and bike companys comparing the zx636 and triumph 650 in the 600 writeups , 600 supersport is meant to be 600cc 4s or 750 twins , of course the kwak will be faster its got a bigger motor i dont know what the trumpets excuse is .
a few rpm , who cares at least its a 600

Well, in most cases it's not really a 600 writeup, it's a writeup of "middleweight" bikes. Some even include the Z750. Aha, of course:

It was a stupid move on Yamahas part to make such a claim, I have this great little tool takes a digital RPM readout and stores the max RPM you hit, its for tuning 2 strokes to the point up to when they go pop. I guess they hoped when it was found out (although it was pushed as a big selling point) that people wouldnt care.

Most bike and car makers have done the same thing at some time.
