Hey all, just picked up my 929 from Welli today. Loving it, very good road bike.
Just one thing worried me today though. It runs very hot. My previous long-term mount was an '02 6R, which generally ran at about 67-69 degrees at anything above 60km/h cruising, or have a good open road blast.
The 929 seems to settle at about 82-84 though, which seems a touch hot after my last bike. It went over 100 quite a few times too, like when traffic was backed up 10kms leading in to Taupo.
Is this normaly for 'Blades? Hondas? I remember that my CBR250R ran pretty hot.

Firstly, Hondas don't run fast enough to cool the radiator. Fact of life. Sorry.
Secondly, it would probably run a little cooler if it weren't for all the egg whites blocking the leaks. You did buy it off "Cut Me Own Throat Taylor" after all.
Thirdly, sounds about the same as what the Gixxer runs, stop being such a worry guts.

Yeah I know it's a gay Honda...my preference is Kwak, then Gix, then Yam or Honda...just felt like a Honda at the time. Seemed a good deal too, although I'll obviously not convince you of that unless it goes for the next 20,000kms, at least half of it under the power of its own engine.
It ain't real fast aye, but should be a good road bike I reckon. I'm happy with it :)

Don't tell anyone I said this, I'll fucken kill ya, but I wouldn't mind one of them 929s as a stunt weapon. Ya know, show that Larriken fella how to actually do a wheelie.
Nice bike man, you got a deal.
Edit: Hey! And any of my bikes go 20K under their own steam, no problems. Just a third of those they're lying on their sides....

Just flushed the radiator today so up with the numbers...50/50mix = about 137deg c before boil....

Does that include the extra pressure provided by the radiator cap thingy or just the mix of water/coolant?

Ideally for a mild petrol engine it Should be around 82 degrees C, Yamaha's have a tendancy to run cold from the factory, a replacement thermostat works wonders on them.

And here you had me all worried that I wouldn't have cred with the pit-bike gangs...
Yeah apparently they stunt pretty well...but not in my hands it won't. Keen to take it to Puke and see what I can get out of it though. Suspension is great for the road, firmish, but not harsh, holds a line well. Will be better for the track than my kinda fat '02 6R was.

my honda must get a reasonable workout because it runs anywhere between 79 degrees and 100 degrees C before the fan kicks in. Generally only heats up that high when Im stuck in traffic trying to get out of town:whistle:

its too dark and the Dogs will get pissed with me if I go look now...thats just the the figs from the lion red can so not sure if it was b 4 I open the can or not..
but would not be there if there was no pressure cause it would be all 100 deg c ( unless you are up a mountain..but thats another story
so to get any temp above 100 deg at sea level must be under pressure..(disclaimer) dont thrash the bike untill someone that knows their shit can comfirm my ramblings.
So my answer to your question WT is that it must be with cap on,

i think it's about right. The TL sits around 90 and the fan kicks in around 105..
In winter i use to tape the radiator up on the old vtr just to get some heat into it. so dont think it's a honda thing.

Thinking about it. the glycol part will stop the water boiling at 100 deg c so not sure weather pressure does any thing or not( makes old trains and boats go)
I love the gauge that says H & C anything over halfway makes you think!

Water under pressure boils at a temp higher than 100 deg c.

Yep, they run hot, My 900RR runs at 72-74 degrees but the 1000RR runs at 82-84 degrees.
My fan starts up long before the stop light changes to green as well.

Water boils about 4 deg F higher for every 1 pound pressure in the radiator.
Hence as a motor works most efficiently the hotter it is without boiling, as soon as you loose pressure it boils straight away. The golden rule of "Never undo the pressure cap while the motor is hot" is due to this. If you want to cool the motor just leave it idling & pour cold water over the radiator (not under pressure) for a few minutes & the cooled down water in the radiator will have circulated thru the motor enought to have an effect. If you are confident it has cooled down enough you can then check the water level if there is none left in the catch can. Failure to wait untill it has cooled down enough can cause boiling & result in a cracked head or worse!
I'm running a product called 'Water Wetter' supercoolant from Red Line (1 ounce per quart) with 50-50 Glycol mix.
This a product commonly used in racing (especially turbo'd motors) without the glycol for an up to 40% reduction in operating temperature but needs the glycol on the street for it's anti corrosive / antifreeze properties.

To the OP, sounds like your old bike had the thermostat stuck open, as that's an awfully low running temp for a four stroke motor.

60ish sounds like an oil temp rather than water (unless yams run cold at the radiator). 84 sounds like a water temp tho - that sounds to me like its in the ballpark. Check the manual and see what it says.
