I know a bit of shit slinging and a bit of general stick is given on KB... and most of it is funny and can be seen in that sense...

But now there are alot of personal comments coming into it and im not seeing the funny side...

Is there a hacker in KB???

NotaGoth

I've never yet understood how many people can get so worked up over nothing.

Circle of influence, if it's inside the circle you can control it. Those are the things you worry about. If it's outside of your circle, you can't control it. That is the shit you don't worry about.

I can't control what people type, what people say and what people think. So why should I worry about it? I'm with you TS, I can't understand it.

But with 5 pages created every day, a good portion of it solved by running a search on the topic (newbies, that means you too), and another good portion solved by not reading it at all, and then reading the other 20 ish threads....

I think people are suddenly taking things personally, maybe just heaps of people all having the same go at someone, who then wants to get their own back?? :spudwhat:

Behind a computer screen, anyone can be a big intimidating biker 10 feet tall and not worry about being shown up. So many people have far bigger and ruder mouths than they would otherwise have in person. I for one don't like it - why be someone you are not?

What someone said earlier about KB being a victim of it's own success is exactly right though. So many people join, it's not just the purists, the motorcycling enthusiasts any more, but people who just have a passing interest. But it's so easy to join and start stirring up a web forum.

There could be a small joining fee. Helps keep it in the purists, and weed out those who just want to have a bit of a whore and a bit of a stir, not to mention help the website run - increased bandwidth has it's cost. Not saying whether or not KB should be "pay to play" so to speak, but the notion has worked elsewhere.

...at the risk of becoming elitist instead of purist.

I dunno eh - I found the site a while ago, I don't post all that often, and it's been a wealth of knowledge for me.. and I thought that's what the site prided itself on being - a website about bikes for all kiwi's

sure, you'll get a few who get their kicks stirring the pot but they'll get ignored/booted/banned/whatever...

growing pains is what this is all about

incidentally - how much do you think is acceptable to 'pay to play'?

Deviant Esq
20th February 2006, 23:24
Good points metric, and true ones too. There are plenty of members like you who do just as you do, and there's nothing wrong with that at all. I agree, charging people to use a forum does often discourage the guys who won't be on a great deal but still find it useful. In the ideal world it should be two-teired: Free to join and use, but you can become a member by making a one off (35 easy payments of just $44999.99!!) payment and gaining extra benefits maybe? I don't know. $20 or something.

I don't go for the whole shit slinging thing myself, but as I said before, the internet makes it easy to spout whatever your opinion is about whoever, without getting smacked in the gob for it. "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say anything all" is long gone, as is another one: "respect your fellow man." Bit of a shame, but you'll always be able to tell who the spouters are and who's a genuine good one. Met a few great guys from KB and yet to meet a real plonker, but they sure make themselves obvious online.

Jeez I have obviously missed some mud slinging... (thankfully). I agree with what someone said about there sometimes being buggerall threads actually ABOUT bikes and riding... some days I have a squiz when I first get into work and theres 100's of new posts and yet only 1or2 are interesting to me cos they are about a ride or at least a bike related issue... Some people seem to spend alot of time sitting in front of their computers talking the talk instead of being out on their bikes... I am in no way pointing the finger at anyone , just adding my opinion for what its worth. Generally speaking I am really enjoying this site, its got alot going for it. I joined up to meet new riding buddies and I definately have succeeded there! Have made some cool new friends! I guess its what you make it... or what you want to get out of it...

There are a few bad aplles in every bunch, unfortunatly the infection is spreading at the moment and there are a few of us laying personal attacks or just taking a comment too personally.

When loosebruce made a comment about my bike being in the KB POS club (see sig) I laughed for a god 5 minutes. Only cause I knew that he was just taking the piss. There are a few on here who don't know when to distinguish taking of the piss and a genuine insults. As DE said, anyone is 10 feet tall behind a screen. People are going to shit themselves when they meet in person one day.

Shit, won't somebody think of the Kalahari Bushman. They don't have internet or phones or electricity and they are the friendlist people on earth. Why can't we all be Bushmen?

POS club? First time I read it I thought it said Poos club and I was trying to work out who'd want to be in Cowpoos club?

We can't all be bushmen coz we don't all live in the bush. And if we did it'd be a bush city then we'd have the same problems we have now and then we'd all want to be other bushmen. And what about the girls - do they want to be bushmen?

I've never been abused on here and any comments where people have abused I don't care about coz that's their view. I just go "Meh.." and move on...

It [was] in General Discussion, if it hasn't been deleted; it had already been altered by admin for displaying inaccurate and sensitive material.

It hasn't been deleted, found it. But all of the slinging match between two prominent members has been erased. I read it last night before it was erased but after the sensitive material was edited out.

It's people who get on here and comment about things you've said or done etc, and don't even know you! Also in written form, sarcasim and humour can often be confused as someone having a dig, unlike in face-to-face convos, it's easy to tell by facial expressions, body language, tone of voice etc. So, with that bit of psychoanalysing, screw you all!! lol, JK. :bleh:

I have been on the recieving end awhile ago. But I reckon Ive dished it out in the past so that I can recieve quite happily also. I think its a case of a piss take usually becoming personal. That and/or a difference of opinion. At the end of the day I reckon you have to ask yourself, does it really matter? I mean if someone is having a shit slinging match, do you want to also take it personally and lower your standard also. Like I said, I've reciently been on the recieving end and know a few others who have also by the same individual. If it bothers you that much then you need to PM Wari or Spankme or have a look at http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=22790

DirtMad:I have been away for a 200km ride on my bike and thought about your signature and now that I have cooled off I can give you the benefit of the doubt!
You probably mean no offence by it but it sure got me pissed off when I read it.
I see the point you are trying to make but "ask" you if you could use some other way to express it, not so much for me but more for those who can not defend themselves. Cheers John.

This above thread displays how people can be offended due to the sad PC world that we subject ourselves to. Gone are the days of freedom of speach, no, there will probably be someone out there who will get offended. Then take it to who ever it is in charge and complain. We get to see it on a daily basis and maybe that accustomed to it that it might go amissed. But never the less its there and IMO one of the biggest problems in society. Gone are the days of responsibility and the concept of making a fuck up. No, theses days its a non-achieve rather than a failure. I find the signature in question quite funny and yes, I can see how it might offend. However I do not believe that one person has the right to tell another how to live their life, in any way. Just like the South Park cartoon that the religious groups are upset or the cartoons that offended muslims. Mate, if you don't like it, don't watch or read it. I know I won't be watching the South Park program, but thats just because I think its shit full stop. heck, my swearing no doubt has offended some allready and they feel the need to do something about it. The sooner we wisen up regarding political correctness the better. Because at this rate, we will all be fucked soon enough.

Edit: oh yea I know that my shit grammor & spelling allready offends some :moon:

I didn't see anyone telling anyone to do anything... simply a statement of fact and a request.

Free speach is one thing, but what happened to understanding? Goes both ways eh.

Hey inlinefour, I have the right to be offended just as you have the right to offend me. I also have the right to ask for an offensive act to be reconsidered.
I did "ask" I did not demand!
You have the right to refuse to reconsider.
I also have the right to make a decision to knock your block off and take the consequences.
Doesn't make it right though, or much sense either.
In 66 years I have found being right isn't always payday.
At the end of the day we have to try to coexist or ??? I'm over it. Cheers John.
