View Full Version : A wife's needs (How I got Sky)

I'd always sworn I'd never give in to the the parasites at Sky and get their devils spawn TV.
Anyhoo, my wife has to have an op on her feet and will be house-bound for two weeks and barely mobile for a further four.
She thought it would be nice to have Sky movies while she's stuck at home.
So, what's a loving husband to do at the start of the Superbike and F1 season?

You discover there's actually just as much crap on Sky as on the other channels, and that renting the DVDs you want it cheaper, then you cancel the "Devil's Spawn TV" and go back to yer average rubbish.

Well, that's what we did anyway.

We're locked in for a year. At least we'll have good reception on poverty TV.

The reception was a big selling point for us for the pleb channels. We just get movies on top of that. Discovery/National Geo/History channels are excellent. There's always something to watch.

I think that DVD Unlimited scheme is plenty good for movies, Sky has a shit line up 90% of the time. However there are plenty of Woman type channels, like Martha!

I can get in touch with my feminine side then.
Any aerobics or yoga shows? Lingerie shows? (He says wishfully)

Make sure you get the Rialto channel (http://www.rialtochannel.co.nz/). You'll find the best movies there. None of this hollywood crap.

I bet this is the most exciting year of F1 ever....because I won't be watching. All those years of watching incredably boring races, hoping that this week maybe something might happen. But my wife is even less likely to subscribe to Sky than me.

It's worth it just for all the BBC comedy you get on UKTV. I don't know about Yoga or owt like that and unfortunately we don't get Aerobics OZ-style here (a half dozen aerobics instructors in lycra bouncing around outside Sydney landmarks)....damn shame.

Anyway, a speedy recovery to Mrs Lou

Food Channel (38 I think) is always good to kill a bit of time. Interesting without having to concentrate too much. Trouble is we always get hungry watching it.

Do ya hafta pay for the food channel?
We don't get the movies - just all the 'free' ones plus sport. The reception was a big selling point for us too.

Depends what you mean by "pay", does suffering Ainsley Harriot count?

OK, cause I really do enjoy it! Great comic theatre, more than a "motorcycling" show.

I think it's just part of the free bundle.

Ainsley is a bit of a goose, Emeril is a dick, there is one annnnnoying woman from the Southern States who does 'good old fashioned down on the ranch' cooking ... but the rest of it is pretty watchable.
There's even a programe dedicated to cocktail making...

I couldn't do that to the woman I love - maybe a toe, but that'd be it.

Internet TV ( Winamp Shout cast) also some pay to view which is cheap actually,

I dont know about NZ internt conditions, so I not sure if its possible
Anyway Last nite there was 150 streams as in 150 channels , I ended up watching Black adder, No adverts , reasonable quality screen.

Tv from all over the world. If the wife likes shortland street then the Korean dramas would be right up her alley ( shortland street on steriods)

I am thinking about paying for the Supermotard and MX season....maybe maybe not ,,,,,,,,,,

Ps ..NO RUGBY OR CRICKET !!!!!:killingme

My wife wanted Sky to watch Cricket and Rugby - as a good husband I just had to agree

She now watches SBK, MotoGP and F1 too! (hopefully the last two won't be as delayed as they were on Prime and TV1) :2thumbsup

Though she has developed a liking for the Living Channel recently :wait:

Three reasons why I subscribe to Sky...

Sport, sport, and More sport.

You just don't get sports on free to air TV. I don't really like forking out so much money to Sky, as has been asserted earlier, there's still too much crap on it from advertising, as if they don't earn enough through our subcriptions. But without Sky I wouldn't get sport, and that's pretty much all I watch on TV except news and CSI (the original Las Vegas lot). Looking forward to the F1 season too.

And as Hitcher said... welcome to the dark side. :violin:
