After my little accident on the weekends ride  , I need to replace my clutch lever $40.00 parts and gear lever $156.00 parts, does anyone know if this is an easy job that could be done at home, or is it something best left to the Pro's. If it is easy any pointers to instructions would be welcome.

It's easy. Have a look at the bits, it'll be self-evident how it all comes apart.
Just be careful of the clutch interlock switch.

$196?! Ouch!
The damage looked like barely anything... just a replacement gear lever.
Yeah... ouch.

Yeah I nearly had a meltdown when they told me the price, tempted to just drill the sucker and put some rubber over the bolt

If you have a look at it and it isn't obvious to you how to do the repair, leave it to a mechanic. I imagine you can do a bit of damage if you try hard enough (speaking from experience).

Did you get a price for a lever off Henry at Takanini motorcycle wreckers?
All easy fix's..as said by Lou Girardin, watch out for the switch under the clutch pivot.................. as far as the shift lever,if only the spigot broke off but the arm itself is still intact, repair is easy and a lot cheaper!!...... the only problem being if the SV rearset is like the TL1000 you have to remove the flanged capscrew that holds the footpeg to get the shift lever off,it is most likely loctited...as long as you have a 10mm inhex (i think) and a powerbar,no worries.

A GSXR1000 one is $146, but the aftermarket one, which is fine, was $49! - and - after drilling out the spigot and putting a bolt in, Ive got a spare.

Check out Pazzoracing.com. I got some for the Z1000. cost around $150 landed. Heaps better than the originals.

The only bit that is missing off the gear lever is the end bit with the rubber on which is at right angles to the shaft, is it possible to get Aluminium welded or something?

Can you get a picture of it..........if the arm itself is not damaged and it is the same as a TL1000 item i will do a straight swap.
*
What can be done most times is countersink the back of the hole in the arm, machine a new tit with suitable thread and secure it with a countersunk capscrew and bobs your aunty

Especially the offer of a swap, much appreciated, funny thing though Colemans "made a mistake in the pricing" and I got both items for less then the original quoted price for just the Gear lever.:niceone:

Colemans came to the party had made a mistake in the pricing, so I now have both parts and will attempt replacements sometime this weekend if kids allow. Just one question with the clutch what does watch out for the switch mean? do I have to do anything other than remove the one bolt that passes through the apex of the lever?
Cheers

I think the SV1000 has a hydraulic clutch but the mirco switch and layout should be similar.........you just need to be aware it is there and the pin... attachment should be the same as the cable clutch lever...... slotted bolt from the top with a nut (10mm socket or ringspanner) underneath.
Couple of pics of the switch layout. (fwiw)

but stuck on the gear lever, the foot peg I have removed by pulling out circlip and then pulling pin, but it leaves the mounting bracket which has to be removed to get at the gear lever, no idea how to remove this?:crybaby:

I have attached a couple of photo's with the footpeg removed is this what you are refering to above?

Yes,thats what i mean't :niceone:
It looks the same as the TL1000 rearset,at the inside will be a capscrew that threads into the footpeg hanger, the gearshift like the brake pedal pivots on it.It will probably have loctite holding so you will need a power bar and inhex.... If you need the tools to do it,shoot me a PM.
Idealy you need to remove the rearset (8mm hex) from the bike ..then put that end piece in the vice (soft jaws) (with the peg removed as you have done)..then you can remove the capscrew at the rear.

You should be able to see the head of the capscrew back here.
