View Full Version : Teaching my G'f to ride on the blade....

Ok, so my girlfriend has never ridden a bike in her life and she has been wanting to learn how to ride for a while now and I have shown her the basic accelerator and clutch operation and how the gears and brakes work.

I have let her ride my blade around the driveway in first a few times. We haven't had any luck in trying to get our hands on a dirt bike to ride around the farm on so I thought ah fuck it she can learn on the blade.

Now Sarah is far from a wuss :apumpin: and she is well coordinated :spudflip: so I took her down the road to a quite area and let slowly let her ride my blade :ride: through first gear for about 50m just so she can get a feel for balance steering and brakes. She did fine doing that so I showed her how to change up into second and then back down to first and let her ride about 400m slowly up and down the road a few times :scooter: , again she was really good. She got her feet up and on the pegs and her gear operating skills were really good, she even managed a u turn ok.

Will do this a few more times and then might get her to steer around some cones a couple of times then she will be all set to go for her basic handling skill test......:niceone:

Hahaha a girl learning to ride on a CBR1000RR!.

She'll be teaching me how to pull 12 o'clock wheelstands soon :slap:

Way to go Fishslayer's GF. I learnt on a Suzuki GS550E and I thought I was hard. Mind you the big ol suzi weighed three times more than me and couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.

Keep us posted on how she goes!

Always believed that it is better to learn on a big bike than a smaller one. Respect comes naturally with a big bike; not neccessarly with a small one. Problem now is that a 250 will not 'cut the mustad' and she needs to be reminded not to get too cocky too soon. Good to hear another lady riding.

You are going about teaching her the right way it sounds, good responsible lad you, but once she ups the pace a bit you'd better get her off that Blade or else it might turn to custard. Hope you can get a hold of a dirt bike or summat in the near future.

Yeah I am running a couple hundred m's up the road and am getting her to ride towards me and stop when she reaches me. Just small steps at a time. She hasn't gone over probably 40-50kph so far.

But yeah it looks as though I will have a dirt bike in a couple of weeks so she can get into 3rd - 4th and work on her skills in general a bit more.

She is really enjoying learning to ride and she will be stoked once I tell her about the dirt bike!. :niceone:

My wife learn't to ride on my old moto-x bike, we went up to wood hill for 2-3 hrs, threw her on the bike, showed her the basics & off she went. Lost count of how many times she fell off, but she learnt how to shift, clutch & break. Best thing was the grounds so soft up there, didn't matter how many times she fell, she'd get straght back up.

I bet it's part of his grand master plan for you to buy your own bike and some pretty biker gear, so he can ride around behind you and be all supportive and stuff. As long as he remembers to watch the road sometimes :shake:
