Heading for home on tuesday morning and I've just come off Mt Messenger north of New plymouth.
A silver WRX goes past me like I'm standing still,it's pissing down with rain and I think "you won't get away with that sort of shit for long mate".
2-3 kms down the road and here's a WRX parked in the ditch having rolled a couple of times.A very sad looking dude's standing next to it with blood running down his face.Ahhhhh shit here we go again.
I stop, get out, an the first thing he says is the steering was faulty.I say, piss off mate you were frigin' flying, that's what was faulty.
He then starts asking me not to tell the cops.
Trouble is theres WRX bits for 50 meters in all directions,so he starts trying to pick bits up.I stop him an get him to sit down on the side of the road because he was losing a fair bit of blood an the pupils of his eyes are like pin pricks.
Then a CVI unit turns up,takes one look an says "going a bit fast were we!!!
Ya' see some interesting things on the road:yeah:

Phew.... that lets me off then as I drive an Impreza HX20. Sort of a WRX minus the turbo. And I don't wear a baseball cap pointing rearwards:2thumbsup

That's the question I'd ask - How old was he? Does this realate to the restricting cc rated cars to new drivers thread?

I can hear him telling his mates later "Yeah man, I was f*cking flying. Then I dunno, sumfing happened to the steering...."

And me with the Legacy. Cant say I mistake them for bikes tho . . .

Or have BMW have started making horribly opposed 4's?

The Impreza came about through writing off my Legacy wagon on the Thames-Coromandel coast 2 years ago. A whole load of diesel had been dumped on a corner. Two other vehicles had apparently gone off before me and there had been no attempt to clean it up or mark it.

Could have ended up in the sea rather than just smacking the cliff.

Similar thing happened to me out by Kawakawa Bay, a Toymota MR2 was trying to race me and lost it. He rolled a couple of times down into the paddock a couple corners before you head down the hill to the beach. I stopped at the tight 35kph corner to see if there was any movement and there was and another car was approaching so I just left.

If the guy toasts his car like that its his problem, he deserves it. But dont for fucks sake endanger other road users! I hope his head still hurts :weird:
Good job for stopping.

He was about 25,and I did feel a bit sorry for him really.
It's a bit strange in a way, because I do get pissed off with the nutters, but I don't really like seeing the end result,,,even if their do bring it on themselfs.
Like Lou says aye, could of been me on any sunday:o

I'm 33 now. For the past couple of years I have noticed myself doing much less crazy shit in cars than I did in my teens/twenties. I still speed on the bike, but have a respect for pain and am generally pretty safe. Fortunately for me, I grew up in a time when your first, second car etc. was likely to be an Escort or Avenger or something equally as gutless. I see teenage boy-racers (and girly ones too) driving their turbo rally replicas and think how lucky I was. If I hadn't have taught myself to drive in stolen shitters like I did I'd probably be dead already.

Faulty steering--- Factory recall. Take his fuckin car away, probably only worth $50 now anyway.

I'm with MxDm here. My formative driving years were spent thrashing the Old's 1.5 Civic. 66kW. The GN of the car world. And to highlight the differences between that and a modern turbo rocket...

I used the coast rd wainui as a bit of late night entertainment in the civic. Had it pace noted, then had it memorised. Knew the braking points, lines, gears... But as with all things in life, I moved on to other things and didn't spend so many late nights on lonely roads. So at the age of... ahem... 25 I rocked up to the coast rd one night in the 323 turbo (the BG 1800 4WD model), trying to scare the pants (literally) off a little hottie who liked speed. A particular corner that was "flat out" on the civic... which given the run up available from prev corners, etc, meant about 140k. I rocked up to it in the 323 flat out, hit a bump mid-corner, car flicks out completely sideways at - get this - 195km/h! It was one of those split second things, quick whack of opp lock and it's all good again. But if the "split second" timing had been a little out, then the little car would have landed on the golf course. And the father of the little hottie (who thought I was the man for that move) would've broken whatever bones of mine the accident didn't break.

So if that's what an driver with rallying experience can nearly do in a 140-odd kW 323, how exactly do you expect kids of today in a 200kw+ WRX or EVO to live for long? And let's face it, EVERYONE can afford a WRX these days.

In case you're wondering about the outcome of that wee escapade - even though I admitted it was a mistake and I'd nearly killed her, I still achieved the objective.
