To all those who were thinking that seems to be more bikes on the road, it was now been proven.
New motorcyce registrations numbered 3,333 for the first quarter of this year, up 50% on last year.
Reasons cited were increasing fuel prices and expectation of a falling dollar driving up prices in the near future.
Whatever the reason, all good I reckon.

I thought as much... Seems like the total registered bikes has gone up 50%, not just new registrations.

Wonder if this counts scooters as there seems to be a shite load of these little ring a ding ding mobility machines around wellers at the mo

Yes it does count scooters and most of those new registrations were in the under 60cc category.

That's OK. Two wheels, engine , all good. Some at least of the 50cc brigade will get hooked and want a "proper" bike (no disparagement of scooters intended) .

I dont have any problem with scooters, just the stereotypical no safety-gear wearing yobbo that normally rides them.
Went out on my mountain bike for the first time in a while on monday. Holy shit did I feel vulnerable around the traffic.

Aye, 'tis noticable on the roads too. Yep, all them scooters too. The scooters seem to be pushed at tertiary institutions - scooters on display during university O week, and more yesterday at AUT (I talked to the Red Baron man as he looked lonley sheltering from the rain with all them scooters.)
Ended up with a convoy of 4 bikes arriving at university this morning - a great way to ease the pain of the morning by arriving en mass and in style! :niceone:

I'm sure I read somewhere that scooter rego's are up 500% this year probably due to petrol prices.
