Yeah, thats part of motorcycling isn't it? they can look right at you, they see but don't register. Tell you what, 2 .50 calibre machineguns on the front putting holes in their paintwork, they'd notice pretty damn quick!

Used to ride on low beam, not any more...

Going to work along in the bus lane on Gt North at Pt Chev, woman in toymota pulls straight out in front of me from a side street Give Way. She sees me, and stops half way across my lane right in front of me.

Well by this stage I was in deep shite and looking at the front quarter of her car. Don't really know what happened next, but I'd hit the brakes, started to swerve and lifted my left leg out straight in front. I planted my left boot on the front guard and somehow pushed my bike sideways in front of her car (GS1000 weighs a shit load!). My bike didn't touch her car, I just saved binning it, and I didn't break my leg. This was all reaction, there was no thinking going on, other than "oh shit".

Her front guard was pushed in quite a lot and the indicator and headlight were both smashed.

I stopped about 20 meters up the road, hopped off the bike and just started shaking. It was about 10 seconds later when the adrenaline brought out Mr Grumpy!#^%$#&*

She was out of her car by this stage and when I walked over to her, she said "I didn't see you". My response was "you obviously didn't F%^*)*&ing look then did you". She wasn't too thick, as she didn't argue.

We swapped names and addresses and that was that.

Since then I always ride on full beam. My current bike SV1000 has twin super bright bulbs and I get flashed all of the time.

Good too, if they are flashing they can obviously see me.

Good call. I still think the machine gun idea has merit though... And you must have legs of steel!!

The legs of steel developed to hold up other things.

I ride with lights and I'm quick on my super loud horn. I've had a few pull out but luckily I've been able to avoid so far. Cagers need some education I recond!

Every other vehicle on the road is out to kill you. I don't ever trust any of them.
Lights on in town ,off on the highway and flash at anything in front to let them know I'm there.
Even then they don't or wont see you sometimes. :shit:

Riding towards the airport yesterday I had 2 cars pull out in front of me, the first guy was a jaguar who had a complex about me passing him cause I didn't really have time to stop and decided to sit on my arse till the next set of lights until I got off the bike and offered to rearrange his car with my bike and get his insurance to buy me a new one.

Then there was women who was too busy chatting on her cell before reversing out of her driveway right in front of me. Then she got the fright of her life when I was next to her and even OVER the sound of my bike I could her music while she was on the phone :weird: She damn near shat herself when I banged on the roof and flipped her off.

To all of the preservationists on here :finger: I did what I knew was right at the time, if I didn't, then next time they may pull out in front of a noob who has no where to go. The way you word the threats as well made sure that they won't take any frustrations out on other bikers.

I looked at the title of this thread and thought it was something to do with the Karate Kid - light on, light off ....

Light on. Always (can't turn mine off anyway but still, light on)

My pet hate is tailgaters, especially after the accident on Blenheim Rd a couple of weeks ago... I always turn around and flip the bird at them and some other sign language to the effect of get the f%#k back!

Loud exhaust is the best safety accessory in my opinion! cagers need to be intimidated by motorbikes to respect them

I had a GSX750ex in the mid eighties and fitted twin air horns. There was just enough room above the exhaust headers to fit a trumpet facing each way (sideways) with the pump above. The biggest pain was a space to put the relay. In the end I just taped it onto the side of the headlight wiring loom.

slimjim

sweet i was wondering about the relay, and its postion

On my bike there's no option but to have the light on and I wouldn't have it any other way.

Wow :first: .

I think i've just read the best thing here :D

"Don't really know what happened next, but I'd hit the brakes, started to swerve and lifted my left leg out straight in front. Well - fucking - done!!! :D, Perhaps next time have a detachable baseballbat and put it thru her windscreen as your footpeg makes a nice thick fuckoff pinstripe in her bumper :nya:

, have you ever come across a bike with air horns that have been fitted ?
Not aware of new bikes being fitted ex factory. Have fitted them to our bikes. Cones under the seat side pods & compressor under the seat or in the tail piece. I'm convinced they are effective....

easy to fix, cheap to buy... repco for like $30 for airhorns

great to have...

re: lights, am starting to think about having my brights on full time during the day... anyone polled this per chance?

edit: fark. just followed the link http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=12994

/me IDIOT

re-edit: actually, it only asks who has lights on during the day... I'm interested to know who has their 'brights' on during the day

Nobody's polled it, but i have my high beams on during the day so the stupid housewives and soccermum's can see me. Black bike with black jacket and white helmet tho... i dont really see how that can be hard to see

9th April 2006, 15:52
haha... green bike, black jacket, black helmet... similar situation... use teh highs when I'm on the motorway clipping along

9th April 2006, 17:45
light on always...though i have been forgetting lately. i dont use the high except at night if im going along a pitch black street or on the highway/country roads. if i get passed dangerously i will flick to high and follow for a while.

in all honesty, i think if we had xmas lights and flashing lights on our lids theyd still claim ignorance. "i didnt see you" "and since when are blind people allowed to drive?"

had an old codger drive headfirst into a big fat cement pole in an underground carpark once.....and that was painted yellow around the top half. dumass.

Haha!. Although i must admit, ive just come back from a 3 hour long cruise (im knackered yes -_-) from chch central to diamond harbour, littleton, govenors bay and then some and i must say, although i felt like i were riding thru hicksville i never got cut off, never got followed closely or anything.

BUT! and its a full, round boded rich 'but', i did get overtaken by at least 6 bikes comin back from diamond harbour.... i wonder who it was.... :D :shifty:

Lights on all the time - don’t have a choice.
I do debate the Lights on Full beam at night in the city etc following people.
I does make is fricken hard for on coming traffic to see what’s ahead of them. It seems the low beam is getting brighter and brighter as the years go by on new cars. "Bitch Wagons" (4WD etc) seem to be the worse.

High beam all the time unless it's dark. If I could fit lethal lasers, I'd do that too.

I totally agree that the car driver needs a DAMN GOOD SCARE to stop them doing this stuff. An incident like this should leave the driver as shaken as the rider. That will make them pay more attention next time!
