This wee go cart was made by my mates uncle in the states Ian Algie. From memory I think its running 2 x Aprilia 125cc motors. Ian reckons this thing is the most mental thing he has ever been in.

Ian has a couple of brothers Neville, David, and Barry. All four of them are engineering guru's and are either involved in motor racing or aircraft restoration.

Ian does a lot of the carbon work for Indy cars in the states and made this go kart as an off season toy. Its the first one he made and has already got plans to make more with a few improvements...carbons wheels and brakes etc.

He took the kart to the Indianapolis auto-salon (or something similar) and was approached by some of the BIGGEST names in the motor racing scene and have shown great interest in purchasing some of these for off season racing.

Pretty cool to see another Kiwi succeeding in the US motor racing scene.

Another cool thing is that Ian is looking at bring one back to NZ, and I might get to have a play in it

holy smokes batman.

2x125 aprillia motors, that really would be fast.
Why doesn't he just use 1 250cc aprillia though, might be a little easier to make. Although 2 motors look cooler.

I'm surprised that the cans aren't carbon though, and the tyres, and whats with the seat???? pah..... that could be made from silk woven carbon fibres and kevlar.......

If he brings one back, remember who your mates are FS :blip:

yeah the twin motors do look pretty wicked eh. Yep he has plans to make a lot more of the bits on it out of carbon, mainly wheels brakes etc. probably exhausts too.

Yeah luckily for him (well he has worked very hard for it and earnt it) money isn't really an object.

On the other hand.. I would hate to crash it.... I'd be paying him back over the next 20 years.

I would be more worried about the carbon splinters that would be going every where!

Do you drive with your arms out at 90deg from your body when you drive? That must look funny :nya:

Whoa... I'm in total awe...

Love to make one out of fibreglass, with a ZX10R motor with a muzzy turbo

Crikey, one with a turbo ZX10R motor would be seriously insane.

Turboing a 1 litre gokart is as pointless as making a gokart that has a bigger engine than 600cc's. Check out these.

Traction is the issue not power.

They don't look like Aprilia 125 motors - are they older models? I thought the Aprilias were liquid cooled?

No way is it pointless.
I reckon there must be some surplus concord engines going cheap,or space shuttle solid boosters.
And you could build the chasis from bucky carbon nano tubes.

it is (except for wank value)if a 250 superkart would piss all over it around a circuit, and I reckon it would unless it was a very open fast circuit

that kart is a very nice bit of work and must have taken some huge gours to design and build but unfortunately unless the rules have changed it won't be eligible to race in any class over here

The Algie Brothers built a very fast Chev powered Alfetta back in the days of anything goes saloon car racing

Just for anyone considering downloading the vids from the Gixerkart site- the XX-kart one is nice and long, but it's mainly concerned with the building of the kart. Doesn't go into any detail, just lots of shots of him welding it up and painting it.

When he does actually show it being used, the thing is seriously quick as you'd expect. Does a time trail on a closed public road and the bumps cause a steering failure at the first bend LOL. Then he gets it sorted and continues- the thing always crosses up and bucks off the bumps under power. He accelerates for a wee bit out of each corner and is then forced to pretty much coast to the next bend. If he didn't it would probably kill him LOL.

The GSXR1100 one seems a tad weak by comparison. Still can't get it's power onto the track, and the corner speeds seem very low for a kart.
