Al right here a question for all you biking gurus, My bikes got a tap under the tank, with three positions reserve off and on. That all makes sence to me, what want to know is how long should the bike be parked to justify turning it off.
Normally I would turn it of over night but when its parked out side work i leave it on. Is that the correct thing to do?

I turn mine off, if I am not going be riding for about a week...
This was based on advice recieved in another thread on this matter about 2 months ago :ride:

I always used to. These days i only turn off the gas if im removing fuel hoses. Dosnt hurt the bike at all leaving it on, as long as your floats in your carb dont stick

Depends on the bike, the old GSXR750 I had gave me a fright a couple of times when it sneezed petrol and exploded after a couple of nights in the garage... Not something you want happening too close to your nads.
Heh heh... Leave it for a bit, if it hydrolocks with petrol don't do it again.

I ride mine almost every day and leave it on unless I'm parking up for a week or two (ie going away and not taking it).

I remember wayyyyyyyyyy back when i got my first bike Coleman Suzuki in Wanganui told me I had to turn petrol off about a half mile from fdestination so it empties the carbie LOL .... being niieve I did it for a while till I was told I dont need to LOL
Was told by mates dad thata s long as bike isnt flooding being parked with tap on it doesnt matter, altho I did prefer to turn it off when parked up. safer that way if there is a bit of a leak or seepage.
My bike is good... all vacumme controlled, petrol turns off when bike engine is turned off.

I always turn it off, just force of habit from earlier times I guess. The old "better to be safe than sorry".

i leave mine on. longest its sat is a week, but then i did start it and let it idle a bit about halfway through. i dislike it when dad rides it and he turns it off, cos i can never work out why when she stops halfway down the road! LOL.
but yeh, if i was going away without the bike, id switch it off, likely try and run the tank quite low too. depending how long id tell dad to take it out for me. the bike would be in his care for the whole time im away.

God bless fuel injection...
...unless you have one of those silly bikes which pees petrol after being left overnight on the side stand.
Happened to a friends R100gs after i borrowed it and he didn't tell me the carbs leaked a bit.
Amazing how a far a little bit of petrol can go over the garage floor... and the stink!

if it has a tap (Fireblade does not) and I ain't using it. Then the tap gets put to the off position when parking. Allways have and allways will.
